On hitting time distributions of Markov processes with sub-Gaussian heat kernel bounds

In this paper, we study the hitting times of Borel right processes on a metric measure space $(E,d,\mu)$ whose heat kernels satisfy sub-Gaussian bounds. It is well known that if $X=(X_t)_{t\geq 0}$ is diffusion process without killing whose heat kernel satisfies a sub-Gaussian upper bound, then, under the volume growth condition $\mu(B(x,r))\asymp r^\alpha$, it satisfies \[ \IP^x[\tau_{B(x,r)}\le t]\le C_1\exp\left\{-C_2(r^\beta/t)^{1/(\beta -1)}\right\}, \] where $B(x,r):=\{y\in E: d(y,x) 0:X_t\notin B(x,r)\}$, and $\beta$ is the walk dimension appearing in the sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimate. We extend this result to general Borel right processes, showing that under an upper bound condition on the volume growth, \[ \IP^x[\sigma_B\le t]\le C_3\exp \left\{-C_4\left(\frac{\widetilde d(x, B)^\beta}{t}\right)^{1/(\beta -1)}\right\}, \] where $B$ is a nearly Borel set, $\sigma_B$ denotes the first hitting time of $B$, and $\widetilde d(x,B)$ represents the distance from $x$ to $B$ after removing the influence of polar subsets of $B$. Furthermore, we show that for a Borel right process with a sub-Gaussian heat kernel lower bound, the hitting time distribution satisfies the corresponding lower bound \[ \IP^x[\sigma_B\le t]\ge C_5 \exp\left\{-C_6\cdot \left(\frac{\widetilde d(x,B)^\beta}{t}\right)^{1 /(\beta -1)}\right\}. \] We also characterize the relationship between the constants $C_i$, $3\leq i\leq 6$, and the constants appearing in the exponents of the corresponding heat kernel bounds. As an application of these hitting time estimates, we further study the small-time asymptotic behavior of $\IP^x[\sigma_B\leq t]$ as $t\downarrow 0$.

Transfer of abelian model structures to equivariant categories and homotopy squares

Let $G$ be a finite group acting on a Grothendieck category $\mathcal{A}$ with enough projectives, such that $|G|$ is invertible in $\mathcal{A}$. We prove a general lifting theorem for abelian model structures from $\mathcal{A}$ to its equivariant category $\mathcal{A}^G$, and establish a triangle equivalence up to retracts between the corresponding homotopy categories. We also construct a commutative square whose horizontal functors are triangle equivalences and whose vertical comparison functors are triangle equivalences up to retracts. This square relates derived functors on the lifted equivariant model categories to the equivariantizations of the derived functors on the original homotopy categories. In the module category setting, we illustrate the above results using the PGF Hovey triples, and apply them to homotopy squares induced by a Frobenius bimodule and by a stable equivalence of adjoint type.

Flat models for Q-shaped derived categories via PGF objects

We develop a unified approach, based on projectively coresolved Gorenstein flat (PGF) objects, for constructing flat model structures on diagram categories. Specifically, we show that PGF objects in such categories are fully determined by their objectwise components, which in turn enables us to establish hereditary abelian model structures whose trivial cofibrant objects are precisely the flat objects. As an application, we reobtain flat model structures on $Q$-shaped derived categories, thereby providing a common framework that subsumes classical constructions for chain complexes. Moreover, we obtain an explicit description of the cofibrant objects in these models.

Optical observations on the young Type Ia SN 2021fxy with detached high velocity features

We present optical observations on the young type Ia supernova (SN Ia) SN 2021fxy obtained within a few days after the explosion, with a focus on its prominent high-velocity features (HVFs). It reached a $B$-band maximum of $M_{\rm max}(B) = -19.36\pm0.31$ mag, corresponding to a bolometric luminosity of $\sim 1.3\times10^{43}~\rm{erg~s^{-1}}$ with a synthesized $^{56}$Ni mass of $0.58\pm0.14$ M$_{\odot}$. The early spectra exhibit strong HVFs of intermediate-mass elements that are significantly detached from the photospheric components. In particular, the velocity of the Si II $\lambda6355$ HVFs follows a power-law evolution ($\beta \approx 0.1$), shallower than the expected photospheric velocity evolution expected for an assumed $n=10$ density profile ($\beta \approx 0.22$) under homologous expansion. This behavior is consistent with the HVFs forming in intrinsic ejecta structures at least partially decoupled from the bulk outer ejecta, providing a possible constraint on the explosion physics of SNe Ia.

Standard modules and Dold-Kan correspondences for generalized Reedy categories

We develop a representation-theoretic approach to generalized Reedy categories through a systematic study of homomorphism spaces between standard modules. For a broad class of these categories, we provide a uniform, computable framework that reduces abstract homological constructions to elementary linear algebra and spectral graph theory via incidence matrices and morphism fibers. As a primary application, we establish a uniform extension of the Dold--Kan correspondence for categories arising from rooted trees, encompassing the categories of finite chains, finite sets and partial injections, and finite spiders. Crucially, this machinery unifies and provides a singular conceptual basis for several classic, seemingly disparate results across algebraic topology and representation theory, including Kuhn's decomposition theorem for vector spaces and the Th\'evenaz--Webb semisimplicity theorem for Mackey functors.

SN 2022erq: A Superluminous Thermonuclear Supernova with Escalating Preexplosion Mass Loss

We present a photometric and spectroscopic study of the superluminous Type Ia supernova SN 2022erq. Its early spectra, dominated by iron-group elements with weak intermediate-mass features, might indicate highly efficient nuclear burning, broadly similar to that inferred for some overluminous SNe Ia. The rapid emergence and persistence of narrow Balmer emission lines superposed on this iron-rich spectrum provide clear evidence of long-lived interaction with a hydrogen-rich circumstellar medium (CSM), establishing SN 2022erq as a member of the rare Ia-CSM class. SN 2022erq reached a peak bolometric luminosity of about 8 x 10^43 erg/s and exhibited an exceptionally slow post-peak decline, indicating that its light curve is dominated by long-duration ejecta-CSM interaction. By combining H-alpha diagnostics with bolometric light-curve modeling, we reconstruct the pre-explosion mass-loss history of the progenitor. The mass-loss rate escalated by one order of magnitude over the final decades, rising from about 0.04 to about 0.6 solar masses per year. This surge produced a massive, extended CSM shell of about 3 solar masses out to about 3.5 x 10^16 cm. The young stellar environment (about 100 Myr) together with this substantial, extensive CSM points to a progenitor system consisting of a white dwarf and an intermediate-mass companion that underwent increasing mass loss prior to explosion.

SN2024abfl: A Low-Luminosity Type IIP Supernova at the Low-Mass End of Core Collapse

We present optical photometric and spectroscopic observations of the low-luminosity (LL) Type IIP supernova SN\,2024abfl. The distance to its host galaxy is highly uncertain, with independent estimates of $9.5^{+2.3}_{-2.4}$ Mpc and $15.0^{+8.9}_{-1.9}$ Mpc. Even adopting the larger distance, the inferred plateau luminosity is only $\sim 10^{41}\rm erg\,s^{-1}$, placing SN 2024abfl at the extreme faint end of SNe IIP population. Its light curve exhibits a long-lasting plateau of approximately 110 days. The spectra show exceptionally low expansion velocities, with the \FeII\, velocity of $\sim1200\,\rm km\,s^{-1}$ at 50 days after the explosion, significantly lower than the typical values of $\sim2000-5500\,\rm km\,s^{-1}$ observed in SNe IIP, placing SN\,2024abfl among the slowest-expanding LL SNe IIP. Bolometric modeling yields a synthesized $^{56}$Ni mass of $\sim0.002-0.004\,\rm M_\odot$, though this estimate remains subject to significant uncertainty owing to the poorly constrained distance. Considering the plateau color and duration, the magnitude drop from plateau to tail, and the progenitor luminosity, we favor a low-mass core-collapse origin for SN\,2024abfl.

Representations of categories of finite relational structures and associated endomorphism monoids

We develop a unified representation theory for the categories of finite subsets and relation-preserving maps of highly homogeneous relational structures classified by Cameron. For any commutative coefficient ring $k$, we extend the classical Dold-Kan correspondence to this setting, with the sole exception of the category $\mathrm{FA}$, and prove that finitely generated representations are noetherian (resp., artinian) when $k$ is noetherian (resp., artinian). When $k$ is a field, we obtain a precise structural description of these representation categories. We classify irreducible representations, showing that canonical quotients of indecomposable standard modules are either irreducible (the regular case) or has length 2 (the singular case). In the case that $k$ has characteristic 0, we establish a (direct sum or triangular) decomposition into a singular component governed by classical Dold-Kan theory and a regular component exhibiting semisimplicity or representation stability. Finally, we establish a monoidal generalization of Artin's reconstruction theorem for topological groups, proving an equivalence between uniformly continuous representations of infinite topological transformation monoids and sheaves on the associated categories of finite subsets. In the special case where the transformation monoid is a permutation group, our result recovers Artin's theorem.

SN 2023axu: A Type IIP Supernova Interacted with a Low-Density Stellar Wind

We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of Type IIP supernova SN 2023axu, spanning $\sim$400 d after the explosion. Its light curve is typical of normal SNe IIP, with a V-band peak of $-17.25 \pm 0.06$ mag and no early-time excess indicative of strong circumstellar interaction. The early spectra exhibit a distinctive broad "ledge" near 4600 \AA. Through spectral modeling and comparison, we attribute this feature to a blend of C, N, and He lines excited by weak interaction between the ejecta and a low-density stellar wind. The late-time photometric evolution shows no discernible contribution from interaction, arguing against strong late-time circumstellar material engagement and supporting the low-density wind scenario. From modeling, this SN synthesized $\sim 0.055\,M_\odot$ of $^{56}$Ni, and nebular spectrum analysis indicates a progenitor mass near $15\,M_\odot$. SN 2023axu thus exemplifies weak ejecta-wind interaction and highlights the diversity of mass-loss histories and circumstellar environments of SNe II progenitors.

AT 2024wpp: the most luminous fast-evolving optical transient linked to the merger explosion of a black-hole binary

Fast blue optical transients (FBOTs) represent one of the most exotic astrophysical transients, exhibiting unusually strong emission across X-ray, optical, and radio wavelengths. Their physical origins remain highly debated, with proposed explanations ranging from stellar explosion to tidal disruption event (TDE). Here we report observations of the most luminous FBOT, AT 2024wpp whose post-peak luminosity rebrightens in X ray and becomes flattening in optical in a manner follows the decay rate characteristic of TDEs ($L_{\rm bol} \propto t^{-5/3}$). This invokes energy contribution of accretion by a central compact object, getting further corroborations from hardening of X-ray spectral index and detection of outflow inferred from the emission lines at similar phase. Detailed modeling of luminsoity evolution favors a coalesce explosion of a 34 M$_{\odot}$ Wolf-Rayet star with a 15 M$_{\odot}$ black hole (BH), demonstrating that some FBOTs may be associated with TDE of a stellar blackhole.

SN 2024igg: A Super-Chandrasekhar/03fg-like SN exhibiting C II-dominated spectra after explosion

We present and analyze photometric and spectroscopic observations of the Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2024igg, another ``super-Chandrasekhar'' (or 03fg-like) SN whose strong C II $\lambda6580$ feature was initially misidentified as H$\alpha$, thereby constraining its progenitor system, explosion parameters, and physical scenario. SN 2024igg shows many characteristics in common with other 03fg-like objects, such as high ultraviolet flux, slowly declining light curves ($\Delta m_{15}(B)=0.90\pm0.08$ mag), low expansion velocities, along with strong and persistent C II absorption. Meanwhile, this SN exhibits some remarkable properties within this subgroup, including a moderately low optical luminosity ($M_{\rm max}(B)=-18.99\pm0.15$ mag), a short rise time less than 18.5 days, and strong C II $\lambda6580$. The bolometric analysis yields a $^{56}$Ni mass of $M_{\rm Ni}=0.547\pm0.082$ $M_{\rm \odot}$ and an ejecta mass of $1.54^{+0.22}_{-0.19}$ $M_{\rm \odot}$, marginally exceeding the Chandrasekhar mass. Our TARDIS result indicates that most of the features in the earliest spectrum could be attributed to C II, which is consistent with a model where a supernova explodes within a carbon-rich circumstellar medium (CSM). The CSM interaction would produce a density peak in the ejecta, offering a natural explanation for the slowly evolving line velocities near $-$8000 km s$^{-1}$. The CSM may stem from the debris of a secondary white dwarf in a white-dwarf merger or the envelope of an asymptotic giant branch star. Combined with the unshifted forbidden lines in the spectrum taken at $t\approx\ +$135 days, we suggest that SN 2024igg comes from a symmetric explosion on a secular timescale after the merger.

On Polar Coding with Feedback

In this work, we investigate the performance of polar codes with the assistance of feedback in communication systems. Although it is well known that feedback does not improve the capacity of memoryless channels, we show that the finite length performance of polar codes can be significantly improved as feedback enables genie-aided decoding and allows more flexible thresholds for the polar coding construction. To analyze the performance under the new construction, we then propose an accurate characterization of the distribution of the error event under the genie-aided successive cancellation (SC) decoding. This characterization can be also used to predict the performance of the standard SC decoding of polar codes with rates close to capacity.

Error-Building Decoding of Linear Block Codes

This paper proposes a novel maximum-likelihood (ML) soft-decision decoding framework for linear block codes, termed error-building decoding (EBD). The complete decoding process can be performed using only the parity-check matrix, without requiring any other pre-constructed information (such as trellis diagrams or error-pattern lists), and it has the potential to be further customized if specific properties of the code can be exploited. We formally define error-building blocks, and derive a recursive theorem that allows efficient construction of larger locally optimal blocks from smaller ones, thereby effectively searching for the block associated with the most likely error pattern. The EBD framework is further optimized for extended Hamming codes as an example, through offline and online exclusion mechanisms, leading to a substantial complexity reduction without loss of ML performance. Complexity analysis shows that, for extended Hamming codes of lengths 64, 128, and 256, the fully optimized EBD requires approximately an order of magnitude fewer floating-point operations on average than minimum-edge trellis Viterbi decoding at a frame error rate (FER) of $10^{-3}$.

SN 2024abvb: A Type Icn Supernova in the Outskirts of its Host Galaxy

We present multiband photometric and spectroscopic observations of supernova (SN) 2024abvb, which exhibits early-time prominent photoionized narrow emission lines of C II superposed on a blue continuum. The absence of Balmer features indicates that the SN exploded within hydrogen-poor circumstellar matter (CSM). Together with the lack of explicit evidence of helium signatures, we tentatively identify SN 2024abvb as a Type Icn SN (SN Icn). After correcting for extinction, we estimate an r-band peak absolute magnitude of -19.7, placing SN 2024abvb in the luminous regime of SNe Icn. We adopted a hybrid model that accounts for both the energy released by the ejecta-CSM interaction and the radioactive decay of nickel synthesized in the SN ejecta to fit the light curve of SN 2024abvb. The best-fit model to the multiband light curves within the first ~ 40 days after explosion suggests that the CSM, radioactive nickel, and ejecta masses to be 0.28 Msun, < 3.8 * 10^-2 Msun, and 0.12 Msun, respectively. Such a low ejecta mass indicates that the progenitor star of SN 2024abvb experienced a significant mass-stripping process, consistent with the hydrogen-poor and helium-poor spectral features. SN 2024abvb provides important insights into the physical origins of the rare subclass of SNe Icn.

Representations of generalized linear Reedy categories and abelian model structures

In this paper we consider representations of generalized $k$-linear Reedy categories $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$, a common generalization of $k$-linear Reedy categories introduced by Georgiois-\v{S}t'ov\'{\i}\v{c}ek and $k$-linearizations of generalized Reedy categories introduced by Berger-Moerdijk, and construct abelian model structures on $\underline{\mathscr{C}} \text{-}\mathrm{Mod}$. In the first part, we show that $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ can be viewed as an infinite categorical analogue of standardly stratified algebras. Explicitly, we give a parameterization of irreducible representations of $\underline{\mathscr{C}} \text{-}\mathrm{Mod}$, provide several sufficient criteria such that $\underline{\mathscr{C}} \text{-}\mathrm{Mod}$ is equivalent to the Cartesian product of module categories over the ``local" endomorphism algebras of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$, and describe applications of these results to representation theory of some interesting combinatorial categories including categories of spans and the category of finite dimensional vector spaces over a finite field and linear maps. In the second part, using the technique of Grothendieck bifibrations, we glue a family of complete cotorsion pairs in the module categories of these ``local" endomorphism algebras to a complete cotorsion pair in $\underline{\mathscr{C}} \text{-}\mathrm{Mod}$, and deduce that under certain mild conditions a family of abelian model structures on these ``local" module categories can be glued to an abelian model structure on $\underline{\mathscr{C}} \text{-}\mathrm{Mod}$. As applications, we obtain a few abelian model structures on generalized $k$-linear direct or inverse categories.

From boundary random walks to Feller's Brownian Motions

We establish an invariance principle connecting boundary random walks on $\mathbb N$ with Feller's Brownian motions on $[0,\infty)$. A Feller's Brownian motion is a Feller process on $[0,\infty)$ whose excursions away from the boundary $0$ coincide with those of a killed Brownian motion, while its behavior at the boundary is characterized by a quadruple $(p_1,p_2,p_3,p_4)$. This class encompasses many classical models, including absorbed, reflected, elastic, and sticky Brownian motions, and further allows boundary jumps from $0$ governed by the measure $p_4$. For any Feller's Brownian motion that is not purely driven by jumps at the boundary, we construct a sequence of boundary random walks whose appropriately rescaled processes converge weakly to the given Feller's Brownian motion.

SN 2024iss: A Double-peaked Type IIb Supernova with Evidence of Circumstellar Interaction

We present optical, ultraviolet, and X-ray observations of supernova (SN) 2024iss, a Type IIb SN that shows a prominent double-peaked light curve. We modeled the first peak with a semianalytical shock-cooling model and the X-ray emission with a free-free model. We compare the envelope radius and mass-loss rate with other Type IIb SNe to explore the relationships between the progenitor envelope and the circumstellar material (CSM). The shock-cooling peak in the $V$-band light curve reached $M_V = -17.33\pm 0.26$mag, while the $^{56}$Ni-powered second peak attained $M_V = -17.43\pm 0.26$mag. Early spectra show an photospheric velocity of $\sim19,400\,km\,s^{-1}$ at 3.82days from the H$\alpha$ P~Cygni profile. The Balmer lines persist at least +87 days after the explosion, characterizing hydrogen-rich ejecta. Modeling the first light-curve peak suggests an extended envelope with a mass of $0.11\pm0.04\,M_{\odot}$ and a radius of $244\pm43~R_{\odot}$. Fitting the second light-curve peak with an Arnett-like model indicates a typical $^{56}$Ni mass of $ 0.117\pm0.013~M_{\odot}$ and a relatively low ejecta mass of $1.272\pm0.343\,M_{\odot}$. X-ray observations reveal bright thermal bremsstrahlung emission and indicate a mass-loss rate of $1.6\times10^{-5}\ M_{\odot} \ \rm{yr}^{-1}$. SN 2024iss occupies a transitional position between the two subclasses of extended (eIIb) and compact (cIIb) Type IIb SNe. Its envelope radius and pre-explosion mass-loss rate appear to be correlated as theoretically predicted. The observational properties of SN 2024iss are compatible with a binary interaction scenario being the dominant mechanism for envelope stripping. Furthermore, the low column density of neutral hydrogen suggests a compact CSM with an outer radius of $\lesssim1.3\times10^{14}$ cm, indicating that the progenitor star experienced eruptive mass loss within $\sim4\,yr$ of its terminal explosion.

On representations of permutation groups and orbit categories

Given an infinite set $\Omega$ and a ring $R$ as well as a group $G$ acting on them, we show that $G$ and a subgroup $H$ share the same canonical relational structure on $\Omega$ if and only if the restriction functor gives an equivalence from the category of discrete representations of $G$ to that of $H$. Moreover, the age of this relational structure satisfies the strong amalgamation property if and only if there is a canonical isomorphism from the category of finite substructures of $\Omega$ and embeddings to the opposite category of the orbit category of $G$. As an application, we prove that finitely generated discrete representations of highly homogeneous groups over the polynomial ring $k[\Omega]$ are Noetherian.
