Structure-preserving numerical methods for stochastic Poisson systems

We propose a class of numerical integration methods for stochastic Poisson systems (SPSs) of arbitrary dimensions. Based on the Darboux-Lie theorem, we transform the SPSs to their canonical form, the generalized stochastic Hamiltonian systems (SHSs), via canonical coordinate transformations found by solving certain PDEs defined by the Poisson brackets of the SPSs. An a-generating function approach with α\in [0,1] is then used to create symplectic discretizations of the SHSs, which are then transformed back by the inverse coordinate transformation to numerical integrators for the SPSs. These integrators are proved to preserve both the Poisson structure and the Casimir functions of the SPSs. Applications to a three-dimensional stochastic rigid body system and a three-dimensional stochastic Lotka-Volterra system show efficiency of the proposed methods.

Large deviations principles for symplectic discretizations of stochastic linear Schrödinger Equation

In this paper, we consider the large deviations principles (LDPs) for the stochastic linear Schrödinger equation and its symplectic discretizations. These numerical discretizations are the spatial semi-discretization based on spectral Galerkin method, and the further full discretizations with symplectic schemes in temporal direction. First, by means of the abstract Gärtner--Ellis theorem, we prove that the observable $B_T=\frac{u(T)}{T}$, $T>0$ of the exact solution $u$ is exponentially tight and satisfies an LDP on $L^2(0, π; \mathbb C)$. Then, we present the LDPs for both $\{B^M_T\}_{T>0}$ of the spatial discretization $\{u^M\}_{M\in\mathbb N}$ and $\{B^M_N\}_{N\in \mathbb N}$ of the full discretization $\{u^M_N\}_{M,N\in\mathbb N}$, where $B^M_T=\frac{u^M(T)}{T}$ and $B^M_N=\frac{u^M_N}{Nτ}$ are the discrete approximations of $B_T$. Further, we show that both the semi-discretization $\{u^M\}_{M\in \mathbb N}$ and the full discretization $\{u^M_N\}_{M,N\in \mathbb N}$ based on temporal symplectic schemes can weakly asymptotically preserve the LDP of $\{B_T\}_{T>0}$. These results show the ability of symplectic discretizations to preserve the LDP of the stochastic linear \xde equation, and first provide an effective approach to approximating the LDP rate function in infinite dimensional space based on the numerical discretizations.

The probabilistic superiority of stochastic symplectic methods via large deviations principles

It is well known that symplectic methods have been rigorously shown to be superior to non-symplectic ones especially in long-time computation, when applied to deterministic Hamiltonian systems. In this paper, we attempt to study the probabilistic superiority of stochastic symplectic methods by means of the theory of large deviations. We propose the concept of asymptotical preservation of numerical methods for large deviations principles associated with the exact solutions of the general stochastic Hamiltonian systems. Concerning that the linear stochastic oscillator is one of the typical stochastic Hamiltonian systems, we take it as the test equation in this paper to obtain precise results about the rate functions of large deviations principles for both exact and numerical solutions. Based on the Gärtner--Ellis theorem, we first study the large deviations principles of the mean position and the mean velocity for both the exact solution and its numerical approximations. Then, we prove that stochastic symplectic methods asymptotically preserve these two large deviations principles, but non-symplectic ones do not. This indicates that stochastic symplectic methods are able to approximate well the exponential decay speed of the "hitting probability" of the mean position and mean velocity of the stochastic oscillator. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first result about using large deviations principle to show the superiority of stochastic symplectic methods compared with non-symplectic ones in the existing literature.

Weak convergence and invariant measure of a full discretization for non-globally Lipschitz parabolic SPDE

Approximating the invariant measure and the expectation of the functionals for parabolic stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with non-globally Lipschitz coefficients is an active research area and is far from being well understood. In this article, we study such problem in terms of a full discretization based on the spectral Galerkin method and the temporal implicit Euler scheme. By deriving the a priori estimates and regularity estimates of the numerical solution via a variational approach and Malliavin calculus, we establish the sharp weak convergence rate of the full discretization. When the SPDE admits a unique $V$-uniformly ergodic invariant measure, we prove that the invariant measure can be approximated by the full discretization. The key ingredients lie on the time-independent weak convergence analysis and time-independent regularity estimates of the corresponding Kolmogorov equation. Finally, numerical experiments confirm the theoretical findings.

Exponential Integrators for Stochastic Maxwell's Equations Driven by Itô Noise

This article presents explicit exponential integrators for stochastic Maxwell's equations driven by both multiplicative and additive noises. By utilizing the regularity estimate of the mild solution, we first prove that the strong order of the numerical approximation is $\frac 12$ for general multiplicative noise. Combing a proper decomposition with the stochastic Fubini's theorem, the strong order of the proposed scheme is shown to be $1$ for additive noise. Moreover, for linear stochastic Maxwell's equation with additive noise, the proposed time integrator is shown to preserve exactly the symplectic structure, the evolution of the energy as well as the evolution of the divergence in the sense of expectation. Several numerical experiments are presented in order to verify our theoretical findings.

On Global Existence and Blow-up for Damped Stochastic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

In this paper, we consider the well-posedness of the weakly damped stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger(NLS) equation driven by multiplicative noise. First, we show the global existence of the unique solution for the damped stochastic NLS equation in critical case. Meanwhile, the exponential integrability of the solution is proved, which implies the continuous dependence on the initial data. Then, we analyze the effect of the damped term and noise on the blow-up phenomenon. By modifying the associated energy, momentum and variance identity, we deduce a sharp blow-up condition for damped stochastic NLS equation in supercritical case. Moreover, we show that when the damped effect is large enough, the damped effect can prevent the blow-up of the solution with high probability.

High order conformal symplectic and ergodic schemes for stochastic Langevin equation via generating functions

In this paper, we consider the stochastic Langevin equation with additive noises, which possesses both conformal symplectic geometric structure and ergodicity. We propose a methodology of constructing high weak order conformal symplectic schemes by converting the equation into an equivalent autonomous stochastic Hamiltonian system and modifying the associated generating function. To illustrate this approach, we construct a specific second order numerical scheme, and prove that its symplectic form dissipates exponentially. Moreover, for the linear case, the proposed scheme is also shown to inherit the ergodicity of the original system, and the temporal average of the numerical solution is a proper approximation of the ergodic limit over long time. Numerical experiments are given to verify these theoretical results.

Symplectic methods based on Pad$\acute{e}$ approximation for some stochastic Hamiltonian systems

In this article, we introduce a kind of numerical schemes, based on Pad$\acute{e}$ approximation, for two stochastic Hamiltonian systems which are treated separately. For the linear stochastic Hamiltonian systems, it is shown that the applied Pad$\acute e$ approximations $P_{(k,k)}$ give numerical solutions that inherit the symplecticity and the proposed numerical schemes based on $P_{(r,s)}$ are of mean-square order $\frac{r+s}{2}$ under appropriate conditions. In case of the special stochastic Hamiltonian systems with additive noises, the numerical method using two kinds of Pad$\acute e$ approximation $P_{(\hat r,\hat s)}$ and $P_{(\check r,\check s)}$ has mean-square order $\check r+\check s+1$ when $\hat r+\hat s=\check r+\check s+2$. Moreover, the numerical solution is symplectic if $\hat r=\hat s$.
