A sharp hyperbolic volume bound for hypersurfaces in $M^3 \times \mathbb{S}^1$

Let $(M^3, g_{\mathrm{hyp}})$ be a closed oriented hyperbolic three-manifold normalized so that $\operatorname{sec}_{g_{\mathrm{hyp}}} \equiv -1$. We prove a sharp lower bound for the volume of hypersurfaces in $M^3 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ representing the slice class $[M^3 \times \{ \mathrm{pt} \}] \in H_3(M^3 \times \mathbb{S}^1; \mathbb{Z})$, and we classify the equality case. If $g$ is a smooth Riemannian metric on $M^3 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ with the scalar curvature $\operatorname{Sc}_g \geq -6$, then every closed embedded hypersurface $Σ$ representing the slice class $[M^3\times\{\mathrm{pt}\}]$ satisfies $\operatorname{vol}_g(Σ) \geq \operatorname{vol}_{g_{\mathrm{hyp}}}(M^3)$. The bound is attained by the product metric $g_{\mathrm{hyp}}+h$, with $h$ any metric on $\mathbb{S}^1$. Conversely, if equality holds for some $Σ$, then up to a diffeomorphism preserving the slice class, $g=g_{\mathrm{hyp}}+h$ and $Σ= M^3 \times \{\mathrm{pt}\}$.

Topological Complexity and Finite Domination

Let $M$ be a closed, connected, smooth $n$-dimensional manifold. We prove that $M$ is dominated by the underlying space of the $n$-skeleton of a finite simplicial complex. Furthermore, the total number of simplices in the $n$-skeleton is bounded above by a constant depending only on $n$ and the embolic volume of $M$.

Multimodal Fake News Video Explanation: Dataset, Analysis and Evaluation

Multimodal fake news videos are difficult to interpret because they require comprehensive consideration of the correlation and consistency between multiple modes. Existing methods deal with fake news videos as a classification problem, but it's not clear why news videos are identified as fake. Without proper explanation, the end user may not understand the underlying meaning of the falsehood. Therefore, we propose a new problem - Fake news video Explanation (FNVE) - given a multimodal news post containing a video and title, our goal is to generate natural language explanations to reveal the falsity of the news video. To that end, we developed FakeVE, a new dataset of 2,672 fake news video posts that can definitively explain four real-life fake news video aspects. In order to understand the characteristics of fake news video explanation, we conducted an exploratory analysis of FakeVE from different perspectives. In addition, we propose a Multimodal Relation Graph Transformer (MRGT) based on the architecture of multimodal Transformer to benchmark FakeVE. The empirical results show that the results of the various benchmarks (adopted by FakeVE) are convincing and provide a detailed analysis of the differences in explanation generation of the benchmark models.

Official-NV: An LLM-Generated News Video Dataset for Multimodal Fake News Detection

News media, especially video news media, have penetrated into every aspect of daily life, which also brings the risk of fake news. Therefore, multimodal fake news detection has recently garnered increased attention. However, the existing datasets are comprised of user-uploaded videos and contain an excess amounts of superfluous data, which introduces noise into the model training process. To address this issue, we construct a dataset named Official-NV, comprising officially published news videos. The crawl officially published videos are augmented through the use of LLMs-based generation and manual verification, thereby expanding the dataset. We also propose a new baseline model called OFNVD, which captures key information from multimodal features through a GLU attention mechanism and performs feature enhancement and modal aggregation via a cross-modal Transformer. Benchmarking the dataset and baselines demonstrates the effectiveness of our model in multimodal news detection.

Stability for a class of three-tori with small negative scalar curvature

We define a flexible class of Riemmanian metrics on the three-torus. Then, using Stern's inequality relating scalar curvature to harmonic one-forms, we show that any sequence of metrics in this family whose negative part of the scalar curvature tends to zero in $L^2$ norm has a subsequence which converges to some flat metric on the three-torus in the sense of Dong-Song.

Triangulation complexity and systolic volume of hyperbolic manifolds

Let $M$ be a closed $n$-manifold with nonzero simplicial volume. A central result in systolic geometry from Gromov is that systolic volume of $M$ is related to its simplicial volume. In this short note, we show that systolic volume of hyperbolic manifolds is related to triangulation complexity. The proof is based on Jørgensen and Thurston's theorem of hyperbolic volume.

Demonstration of Planar Ultrananocrystalline Diamond Field Emission Source Operating in SRF Injector at 2 Kelvin

Reported here is the first demonstration of electron beam generation in an SRF TESLA 1.3 GHz gun equipped with field emission cathode when operated at 2 Kelvin. The cathode is submicron film of nitrogen-incorporated ultrananocrystalline diamond [(N)UNCD] deposited atop a Nb RRR300 cathode plug. The output current was measured to increase exponentially as a function of the cavity gradient. Our results demonstrate a feasible path toward simplified fully cryogenic SRF injector technology. One important finding is that the electron emitter made of (N)UNCD, a material long been known as a highly efficient field emission material, demonstrated a record low turn-on gradient of 0.6 MV/m. A hypothesis explaining this behavior is proposed.

Embolic volume and Betti numbers

We show a new result of relating embolic volume of compact manifolds to Betti numbers. The result is an improvement to Durumeric's previous work. The proof is based on Gromov's method appeared in systolic geometry.

Covering Trick and Embolic Volume

Embolic volume of compact manifolds is defined in terms of Berger's embolic inequality. In this paper, we show a result of relating embolic volume to the first Betti number. The proof relies on Gromov's covering argument appeared in systolic geometry. Berger called this method covering trick. We exploit and present more details to covering trick in the paper.

Systolic volume and complexity of 3-manifolds

In this paper, we prove that the systolic volume of a closed aspherical 3-manifold is bounded below in terms of complexity. Systolic volume is defined as the optimal constant in a systolic inequality. Babenko showed that the systolic volume is a homotopy invariant. Moreover, Gromov proved that the systolic volume depends on topology of the manifold. More precisely, Gromov proved that the systolic volume is related to some topological invariants measuring complicatedness. In this paper, we work along Gromov's spirit to show that systolic volume of 3-manifolds is related to complexity. The complexity of 3-manifolds is the minimum number of tetrahedra in a triangulation, which is a natural tool to evaluate the combinatorial complicatedness.

$\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-coefficient homology $(1, 2)$-systolic freedom of $\mathbb{R}\mathbb{P}^{3}$ # $\mathbb{R}\mathbb{P}^{3}$

We prove the $3$-manifold $\RP^3 \# \RP^3$ is of $\Z_{2}$-coefficient homology $(1, 2)$-systolic freedom. Given a Riemannian metric on $\RP^{3}\# \RP^{3}$, we define $\Z_{2}$-coefficient homology $1$-systole as the infimum of lengths of all nonseparating geodesic loops representing nontrivial classes in $H_{1}(\RP^3\#\RP^3; \Z_{2})$. The $\Z_{2}$-coefficient homology $2$-systole is defined to be the infimum of areas of all nonseparating surfaces representing nontrivial classes in $H_{2}(\RP^{3}\#\RP^{3}; \Z_2)$. In the paper we show that there exists a sequence of Riemannian metrics on $\RP^{3} \# \RP^{3}$ such that the volume of $\RP^3 \# \RP^3$ cannot be bounded below in terms of the product of $\Z_{2}$-coefficient homology $1$-systole and $\Z_{2}$-coefficient homology $2$-systole.
