Modeling Schrödinger equation diffraction with generalized function potentials and initial values

We discuss spectral properties of a regularization approach to a Schrödinger equation set-up for the diffraction of a quantum particle at almost planar patterns. Physically meaningful initial values and potentials are modeled in terms of regularizing families and the solutions can be interpreted as generalized functions. We establish spectral and scattering theoretical properties of the regularizing solution families and provide some comparison with the more direct approximations and simplifications used in physics.

Stochastic very weak solution to parabolic equations with singular coefficients

A class of stochastic parabolic equations with singular potentials is analysed in the chaos expansion setting where the Wick product is used to give sense to the product of generalized stochastic processes. For the analysis of such equations we combine the chaos expansion method from the white noise analysis and the concept of very weak solutions from the theory of partial differential equations. The stochastic very weak solution to the stochastic parabolic evolution problem is defined and its existence and uniqueness are shown. For regular enough potentials and data we prove consistency of stochastic very weak solution with a stochastic weak solution. We give an example to illustrate the method and possible applications.

The Euler-Bernoulli equation with distributional coefficients and forces

In this work we investigate a very weak solution to the initial-boundary value problem of an Euler-Bernoulli beam model. We allow for bending stiffness, axial- and transversal forces as well as for initial conditions to be irregular functions or distributions. We prove the well-posedness of this problem in the very weak sense. More precisely, we define the very weak solution to the problem and show its existence and uniqueness. For regular enough coefficients we show consistency with the weak solution. Numerical analysis shows that the very weak solution coincides with the weak solution, when the latter exists, but also offers more insights into the behaviour of the very weak solution, when the weak solution doesn't exist.

Distributed-order time-fractional wave equations

Distributed-order time-fractional wave equations appear in the modeling of wave propagation in viscoelastic media. The material characteristics of the medium are modeled through constitutive functions or distributions in the distributed-order constitutive law. In this work we propose to take positive Radon measures for the constitutive "functions". First, we derive a thermodynamical restriction on the constitutive measures which is easy to check, and therefore suitable for applications. Then we prove that the setting with measures in combination with the derived thermodynamical restriction guarantee existence and uniqueness of solutions for the distributed-order fractional wave equation. We further discuss the support and regularity of the fundamental solution, and conclude with a discussion on wave velocities.

Wick-type stochastic parabolic equations with random potentials

The stochastic parabolic equations with random potentials, driving forces and initial conditions are considered. The Wick product is used to give sense to the product of two generalized stochastic processes, and the existence and uniqueness of solutions are proved via the chaos expansion method from white noise analysis. The estimates on coefficients in the chaos expansion form of the solutions are provided.

Stochastic parabolic equations with singular potentials

In this work we consider a class of stochastic parabolic equations with singular space depending potential, random driving force and random initial condition. For the analysis of these equations we combine the chaos expansion method from the white noise analysis and the concept of very weak solutions. For given stochastic parabolic equation we introduce the notion of a stochastic very weak solution, prove the existence and uniqueness of the very weak solution to corresponding stochastic initial value problem and show its independence of a regularization on given singular potential. In addition, the consistency of a stochastic very weak solution with a stochastic weak solution is shown.

Energy dissipation for hereditary and energy conservation for non-local fractional wave equations

Using the method of a priori energy estimates, energy dissipation is proved for the class of hereditary fractional wave equations, obtained through the system of equations consisting of equation of motion, strain, and fractional order constitutive models, that include the distributed-order constitutive law in which the integration is performed from zero to one generalizing all linear constitutive models of fractional and integer orders, as well as for the thermodynamically consistent fractional Burgers models, where the orders of fractional differentiation are up to the second order. In the case of non-local fractional wave equations, obtained using non-local constitutive models of Hooke- and Eringen-type in addition to the equation of motion and strain, a priori energy estimates yield the energy conservation, with the reinterpreted notion of the potential energy.

Well-posedness of the fractional Zener wave equation for heterogenous viscoelastic materials

We explore the well-posedness of the fractional version of Zener's wave equation for viscoelastic solids, which is based on a constitutive law relating the stress tensor $\boldsymbolσ$ to the strain tensor $\boldsymbol\varepsilon(\bf u)$, with $\bf u$ being the displacement vector, defined by: $(1+τD_t^α) {\boldsymbolσ}=(1+ρD_t^α)[2μ{\boldsymbol\varepsilon}({\bf u})+λ\text{tr}(\boldsymbol\varepsilon(\bf u)) \bf ]$. Here $μ,λ\in\mathrm{L}^\infty(Ω)$, $μ$ is the shear modulus bounded below by a positive constant, and $λ\geq 0$ is first Lamé coefficient, $D_t^α$, with $α\in (0,1)$, is the Caputo time-derivative, $τ>0$ is the characteristic relaxation time and $ρ\geqτ$ is the characteristic retardation time. We show that, when coupled with the equation of motion $\varrho \ddot{\bf u} = \text{Div}{\boldsymbolσ} + \bf F$, considered in a bounded open Lipschitz domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and over a time interval $(0,T]$, where $\varrho\in \mathrm{L}^\infty(Ω)$ is the density of the material, bounded below by a positive constant, and $\bf F$ is a specified load vector, the resulting model is well-posed in the sense that the associated initial-boundary-value problem, with initial conditions ${\bf u}(0,\mathbf{x}) = {\bf g}(\mathbf{x})$, $\dot{\bf u}(0,\mathbf{x}) = \bf h(\mathbf{x})$, ${\boldsymbolσ}(0,\mathbf{x}) = {\bf s}(\mathbf{x})$, for $\mathbf{x} \in Ω$, and a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, possesses a unique weak solution for any choice of ${\bf g }\in [\mathrm{H}^1_0(Ω)]^3$, ${\bf h}\in [\mathrm{L}^2(Ω)]^3$, and ${\bf S} = {\bf S}^{\rm T} \in [\mathrm{L}^2(Ω)]^{3 \times 3}$, and any load vector ${\bf F} \in\mathrm{L}^2(0,T;[\mathrm{L}^2(Ω)]^3)$, and that this unique weak solution depends continuously on the initial data and the load vector.

Fractional Burgers wave equation

Thermodynamically consistent fractional Burgers constitutive models for viscoelastic media, divided into two classes according to model behavior in stress relaxation and creep tests near the initial time instant, are coupled with the equation of motion and strain forming the fractional Burgers wave equations. Cauchy problem is solved for both classes of Burgers models using integral transform method and analytical solution is obtained as a convolution of the solution kernels and initial data. The form of solution kernel is found to be dependent on model parameters, while its support properties implied infinite wave propagation speed for the first class and finite for the second class. Spatial profiles corresponding to the initial Dirac delta displacement with zero initial velocity display features which are not expected in wave propagation behavior.

Bifurcation analysis of rotating axially compressed imperfect nano-rod

Static stability problem for axially compressed rotating nano-rod clamped at one and free at the other end is analyzed by the use of bifurcation theory. It is obtained that the pitchfork bifurcation may be either super- or sub-critical. Considering the imperfections in rod's shape and loading, it is proved that they constitute the two-parameter universal unfolding of the problem. Numerical analysis also revealed that for non-locality parameters having higher value than the critical one interaction curves have two branches, so that for a single critical value of angular velocity there exist two critical values of horizontal force.

Distributed order fractional constitutive stress-strain relation in wave propagation modeling

Distributed order fractional model of viscoelastic body is used in order to describe wave propagation in infinite media. Existence and uniqueness of fundamental solution to the generalized Cauchy problem, corresponding to fractional wave equation, is studied. The explicit form of fundamental solution is calculated, and wave propagation speed, arising from solution's support, is found to be connected with the material properties at initial time instant. Existence and uniqueness of the fundamental solutions to the fractional wave equations corresponding to four thermodynamically acceptable classes of linear fractional constitutive models, as well as to power type distributed order model, are established and explicit forms of the corresponding fundamental solutions are obtained.

Solvability and microlocal analysis of the fractional Eringen wave equation

We discuss unique existence and microlocal regularity properties of Sobolev space solutions to the fractional Eringen wave equation, initially given in the form of a system of equations in which the classical non-local Eringen constitutive equation is generalized by employing space-fractional derivatives. Numerical examples illustrate the shape of solutions in dependence of the order of the space-fractional derivative.

Microlocal analysis of fractional wave equations

We determine the wave front sets of solutions to two special cases of the Cauchy problem for the space-time fractional Zener wave equation, one being fractional in space, the other being fractional in time. For the case of the space fractional wave equation, we show that no spatial propagation of singularities occurs. For the time fractional Zener wave equation, we show an analogue of non-characteristic regularity.

Space-time fractional Zener wave equation

Space-time fractional Zener wave equation, describing viscoelastic materials obeying the time-fractional Zener model and the space-fractional strain measure, is derived and analyzed. This model includes waves with finite speed, as well as non-propagating disturbances. The existence and the uniqueness of the solution to the generalized Cauchy problem are proved. Special cases are investigated and numerical examples are presented.

Generalized solutions for the Euler-Bernoulli model with Zener viscoelastic foundations and distributional forces

We study the initial-boundary value problem for an Euler-Bernoulli beam model with discontinuous bending stiffness laying on a viscoelastic foundation and subjected to an axial force and an external load both of Dirac-type. The corresponding model equation is fourth order partial differential equation and involves discontinuous and distributional coefficients as well as a distributional right-hand side. Moreover the viscoelastic foundation is of Zener type and described by a fractional differential equation with respect to time. We show how functional analytic methods for abstract variational problems can be applied in combination with regularization techniques to prove existence and uniqueness of generalized solutions.

Generalized Hamilton's Principle with Fractional Derivatives

We generalize Hamilton's principle with fractional derivatives in Lagrangian $L(t,y(t),{}_0D_t^\al y(t),α)$ so that the function $y$ and the order of fractional derivative $α$ are varied in the minimization procedure. We derive stationarity conditions and discuss them through several examples.
