Analysis of an exponential integrator for stochastic PDEs driven by Riesz noise

We present and study an explicit exponential integrator for parabolic SPDEs in any dimension driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and with spatial correlation given by a Riesz kernel. Under assumptions on the coefficients of the SPDE, we prove strong error bounds and exhibit how the rate of convergence depends on the exponent in the Riesz kernel. Finally, numerical experiments in spatial dimensions $1$ and $2$ are provided in order to confirm our convergence results.

Global well-posedness for hyperbolic SPDEs with non-Lipschitz coefficients driven by space-time Lévy white noise

In this article, we study the global well-posedness of hyperbolic SPDEs on a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$, driven by a space-time Lévy white noise, when the drift and diffusion coefficients are locally Lipschitz and have linear growth. The equations are driven by two types of space-time Lévy noise: (i) a finite-variance Lévy white noise; or (ii) a symmetric Lévy basis that may have infinite variance. A typical example of noise of the second type is the symmetric $α$-stable (S$α$S) random measure with $α\in (0,2)$.

Convergence in law for quasi-linear SPDEs

We consider the quasi-linear stochastic wave and heat equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d\in \{1,2,3\}$ and $d\geq 1$, respectively, and perturbed by an additive Gaussian noise which is white in time and has a homogeneous spatial correlation with spectral measure $μ_n$. We allow the Fourier transform of $μ_n$ to be a genuine distribution. Let $u^n$ be the mild solution to these equations. We provide sufficient conditions on the measures $μ_n$ and the initial data to ensure that $u^n$ converges in law, in the space of continuous functions, to the solution of our equations driven by a noise with spectral measure $μ$, where $μ_n\toμ$ in some sense. We apply our main result to various types of noises, such as the anisotropic fractional noise. We also show that we cover existing results in the literature, such as the case of Riesz kernels and the fractional noise with $d=1$.

The hyperbolic Anderson model: Moment estimates of the Malliavin derivatives and applications

In this article, we study the hyperbolic Anderson model driven by a space-time \emph{colored} Gaussian homogeneous noise with spatial dimension $d=1,2$. Under mild assumptions, we provide $L^p$-estimates of the iterated Malliavin derivative of the solution in terms of the fundamental solution of the wave solution. To achieve this goal, we rely heavily on the \emph{Wiener chaos expansion} of the solution. Our first application are \emph{quantitative central limit theorems} for spatial averages of the solution to the hyperbolic Anderson model, where the rates of convergence are described by the total variation distance. These quantitative results have been elusive so far due to the temporal correlation of the noise blocking us from using the Itô calculus. A \emph{novel} ingredient to overcome this difficulty is the \emph{second-order Gaussian Poincaré inequality} coupled with the application of the aforementioned $L^p$-estimates of the first two Malliavin derivatives. Besides, we provide the corresponding functional central limit theorems. As a second application, we establish the absolute continuity of the law for the hyperbolic Anderson model. The $L^p$-estimates of Malliavin derivatives are crucial ingredients to verify a local version of Bouleau-Hirsch criterion for absolute continuity. Our approach substantially simplifies the arguments for the one-dimensional case, which has been studied in the recent work by Balan, Quer-Sardanyons and Song (2019).

Weak approximation of the complex Brownian sheet from a Lévy sheet and applications to SPDEs

We consider a Lévy process in the plane and we use it to construct a family of complex-valued random fields that we show to converge in law, in the space of continuous functions, to a complex Brownian sheet. We apply this result to obtain weak approximations of the random field solution to a semilinear one-dimensional stochastic heat equation driven by the space-time white noise.

SPDEs with linear multiplicative fractional noise: continuity in law with respect to the Hurst index

In this article, we consider the one-dimensional stochastic wave and heat equations driven by a linear multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac 14,1)$. We prove that the solution of each of the above equations is continuous in terms of the index $H$, with respect to the convergence in law in the space of continuous functions. The proof is based on a tightness criterion on the plane and Malliavin calculus techniques in order to identify the limit law.

Absolute continuity of solutions to reaction-diffusion equations with multiplicative noise

We prove absolute continuity of the law of the solution, evaluated at fixed points in time and space, to a parabolic dissipative stochastic PDE on $L^2(G)$, where $G$ is an open bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with smooth boundary. The equation is driven by a multiplicative Wiener noise and the nonlinear drift term is the superposition operator associated to a real function which is assumed to be monotone, locally Lipschitz continuous, and growing not faster than a polynomial. The proof, which uses arguments of the Malliavin calculus, crucially relies on the well-posedness theory in the mild sense for stochastic evolution equations in Banach spaces.

Existence of density for the stochastic wave equation with space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise

In this article, we consider the stochastic wave equation on $\mathbb{R}_{+} \times \mathbb{R}$, driven by a linear multiplicative space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise whose temporal and spatial covariance structures are given by locally integrable functions $γ$ (in time) and $f$ (in space), which are the Fourier transforms of tempered measures $ν$ on $\mathbb{R}$, respectively $μ$ on $\mathbb{R}$. Our main result shows that the law of the solution $u(t,x)$ of this equation is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure.

SPDEs with fractional noise in space: continuity in law with respect to the Hurst index

In this article, we consider the quasi-linear stochastic wave and heat equations on the real line and with an additive Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (0,1)$. The drift term is assumed to be globally Lipschitz. We prove that the solution of each of the above equations is continuous in terms of the index $H$, with respect to the convergence in law in the space of continuous functions.

Hölder continuity for the Parabolic Anderson Model with space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise

In this article, we consider the Parabolic Anderson Model with constant initial condition, driven by a space-time homogeneous Gaussian noise, with general covariance function in time and spatial spectral measure satisfying Dalang's condition. First, we prove that the solution (in the Skorohod sense) exists and is continuous in $L^p(Ω)$. Then, we show that the solution has a modification whose sample paths are Hölder continuous in space and time, with optimal exponents, and under the minimal condition on the spatial spectral measure of the noise (which is the same as the condition encountered in the case of the white noise in time). This improves similar results which were obtained in Hu, Huang, Nualart and Tindel (2015), and Song (2017) under more restrictive conditions, and with sub-optimal exponents for Hölder continuity.

Intermittency for the Hyperbolic Anderson Model with rough noise in space

In this article, we consider the stochastic wave equation on the real line driven by a linear multiplicative Gaussian noise, which is white in time and whose spatial correlation corresponds to that of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac14,\frac12)$. Initial data are assumed to be constant. First, we prove that this equation has a unique solution (in the Skorohod sense) and obtain an exponential upper bound for the $p$-th moment of the solution, for any $p\geq 2$. Condition $H>\frac14$ turns out to be necessary for the existence of solution. Secondly, we show that this solution coincides with the one obtained by the authors in a recent publication, in which the solution is interpreted in the Itô sense. Finally, we prove that the solution of the equation in the Skorohod sense is weakly intermittent.

SPDEs with rough noise in space: Hölder continuity of the solution

We consider the stochastic wave and heat equations with affine multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in time and behaves in space like the fractional Brownian motion with index $H \in (\frac14,\frac12)$. The existence and uniqueness of the solution to these equations has been proved recently by the authors. In the present note we show that these solutions have modifications which are Hölder continuous in space of order smaller than $H$, and Hölder continuous in time of order smaller than $γ$, where $γ=H$ for the wave equation and $γ=H/2$ for the heat equation.

The Stratonovich heat equation : a continuity result and weak approximations

We consider a Stratonovich heat equation in $(0,1)$ with a nonlinear multiplicative noise driven by a trace-class Wiener process. First, the equation is shown to have a unique mild solution. Secondly, convolutional rough paths techniques are used to provide an almost sure continuity result for the solution with respect to the solution of the 'smooth' equation obtained by replacing the noise with an absolutely continuous process. This continuity result is then exploited to prove weak convergence results based on Donsker and Kac-Stroock type approximations of the noise.

Existence and regularity of the density for the solution to semilinear dissipative parabolic SPDEs

We prove existence and smoothness of the density of the solution to a nonlinear stochastic heat equation on $L^2(\mathcal{O})$ (evaluated at fixed points in time and space), where $\mathcal{O}$ is an open bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$. The equation is driven by an additive Wiener noise and the nonlinear drift term is the superposition operator associated to a real function which is assumed to be (maximal) monotone, continuously differentiable, and growing not faster than a polynomial. The proof uses tools of the Malliavin calculus combined with methods coming from the theory of maximal monotone operators.

Gaussian estimates for the density of the non-linear stochastic heat equation in any space dimension

In this paper, we establish lower and upper Gaussian bounds for the probability density of the mild solution to the stochastic heat equation with multiplicative noise and in any space dimension. The driving perturbation is a Gaussian noise which is white in time with some spatially homogeneous covariance. These estimates are obtained using tools of the Malliavin calculus. The most challenging part is the lower bound, which is obtained by adapting a general method developed by Kohatsu-Higa to the underlying spatially homogeneous Gaussian setting. Both lower and upper estimates have the same form: a Gaussian density with a variance which is equal to that of the mild solution of the corresponding linear equation with additive noise.
