Scalar glueball-$s\bar{s}$ mixing in one flavor lattice QCD

We investigate the mixing between the lowest-lying scalar glueball and the $s\overline{s}$ meson in $N_f=1$ lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) utilizing an anisotropic $16^3 \times 128$ lattice ensemble at a lattice spacing $a_s\approx 0.148\,\rm{fm}$. By solving a generalized eigenvalue problem (GEVP) for the optimized glueball and $s\overline{s}$ scalar operators in the $J^\text{PC} = 0^{++}$ channel, the masses of the two lowest-lying eigenstates are determined to be $m_1 = 1.290(20)\,\mathrm{GeV}$ and $m_2 = 1.777(49)\,\mathrm{GeV}$. By extracting the couplings of these mass eigenstates to the glueball and $s\bar{s}$ operators, we determine a substantial mixing angle $|\theta| \approx 40.7(2.7)^\circ$ and a large mixing energy $x_s = 239(24)$ MeV. These results indicate a strong glueball-$s\bar{s}$ mixing in the scalar sector, providing important non-perturbative inputs for understanding the nature of the experimental isoscalar scalar mesons. The continuum limit of the mixing energy and its quark mass dependence need to be investigated in the future.

Production Rate of Glueball-like $X(2370)$ in $J/\psi$ Radiative Decay

$X(2370)$ falls in the mass region of the lowest pseudoscalar glueball predicted by lattice QCD studies and its decay properties are similar to those of $\eta_c$. A previous lattice QCD study finds that the pseudoscalar glueball ($G_{0^-}$) and the lowest pseudoscalar charmonium ($c\bar{c}(0^-)$) can mix with a small mixing angle $\sin\theta$. It is therefore possible that $X(2370)$ and $\eta_c$ are admixtures of $G_{0^-}$ and $c\bar{c}(0^-)$. In this picture, although $\mathrm{Br}(J/\psi\to\gamma\eta_c)$ is insensitive to the small $\sin\theta$, $\mathrm{Br}(J/\psi\to \gamma X(2370))$ can be enlarged drastically by the mixing due to the much larger kinematic factor for $J/\psi\to \gamma X(2370)$ and the much larger transition form factor for $J/\psi\to \gamma (c\bar{c}(0^{-}))$. Depending on the value of $\sin\theta$, $\mathrm{Br}(J/\psi\to \gamma X(2370))$ can be much larger than that of the pure pseudoscalar glueball, namely, $2.3(8)\times 10^{-4}$ that is predicted by a quenched lattice QCD calculation. Present results by BESIII favor a small mixing angle of $\mathcal{O}(1^\circ)$, which can be further constrained by more measurements of $X(2370)$ decays if the mixing picture applies here.

Radiative decay of heavy-light mesons from lattice QCD

We present the first systematic study of the radiative decays of charmed mesons using $2+1$-flavor clover fermion gauge ensembles generated by the CLQCD collaboration. One of the ensembles is at the physical pion mass, and one has a fine lattice spacing $a\sim 0.05 ~\text{fm}$. We determine the coupling constants to be $g_{D^{\ast+} D^+ \gamma} = -0.204(22)$ GeV$^{-1}$, $g_{D^{\ast0} D^0 \gamma} = 1.73(37)$ GeV$^{-1}$, and $g_{D_s^{\ast+} D_s^+ \gamma} =-0.120(14)$ GeV$^{-1}$, respectively. Compared with previous studies, our results demonstrate significant improvements in precision. In particular, we carefully estimate the systematic uncertainty arising from matrix element fits, momentum transfer extrapolations, and chiral and continuum limit extrapolations, which are included in the reported total uncertainties. These couplings yield the following predictions of decay widths: $\Gamma_{D^{\ast+} \rightarrow D^+ \gamma} = 0.253(55)$ keV, $\Gamma_{D^{\ast0} \rightarrow D^0 \gamma} = 18.2(7.8)$ keV, and $\Gamma_{D_s^{\ast+}\rightarrow D_s^+ \gamma} = 0.094(22)$ keV. This work establishes first-principles results of the charmed meson radiative transitions and provides inputs for understanding the structure and properties of heavy-light mesons.

The radiative decay of scalar glueball from lattice QCD

We perform the first lattice QCD study on the radiative decay of the scalar glueball to the vector meson $\phi$ in the quenched approximation. The calculations are carried out on three gauge ensembles with different lattice spacings, which enable us to do the continuum extrapolation. We first revisit the radiative $J/\psi$ decay into the scalar glueball $G$ and obtain the partial decay width $\Gamma(J/\psi \to \gamma G)=0.578(86)~\text{keV}$ and the branching fraction $\text{Br}(J/\psi \to \gamma G) = 6.2(9)\times 10^{-3}$. We then extend the similar calculation to the process $G\to \gamma \phi$ and get the partial decay width $\Gamma(G \to \gamma \phi)= 0.074(47)~\text{keV}$, which implies that the combined branching fraction of $J/\psi\to\gamma G\to \gamma\gamma\phi$ is as small as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-9})$ such that this process is hardly detected by the BESIII experiment even with the large $J/\psi$ sample of $\mathcal{O}(10^{10})$. With the vector meson dominance model, the two-photon decay width of the scalar glueball is estimated to be $\Gamma(G\to\gamma\gamma)=0.53(46)~\text{eV}$, which results in a large stickiness $S(G)\sim \mathcal{O}(10^4)$ of the scalar glueball by assuming the stickiness of $f_2(1270)$ to be one.

$\Sigma$ Resonances from a Neural Network-based Partial Wave Analysis on $K^-p$ Scattering

We implement a convolutional neural network to study the $\Sigma$ hyperons using experimental data of the $K^-p\to\pi^0\Lambda$ reaction. The averaged accuracy of the NN models in resolving resonances on the test data sets is ${\rm 98.5\%}$, ${\rm 94.8\%}$ and ${\rm 82.5\%}$ for one-, two- and three-additional-resonance case. We find that the three most significant resonances are $1/2^+$, $3/2^+$ and $3/2^-$ states with mass being ${\rm 1.62(11)~GeV}$, ${\rm 1.72(6)~GeV}$ and ${\rm 1.61(9)~GeV}$, and probability being $\rm 100(3)\%$, $\rm 72(24)\%$ and $\rm 98(52)\%$, respectively, where the errors mostly come from the uncertainties of the experimental data. Our results support the three-star $\Sigma(1660)1/2^+$, the one-star $\Sigma(1780)3/2^+$ and the one-star $\Sigma(1580)3/2^-$ in PDG. The ability of giving quantitative probabilities in resonance resolving and numerical stability make NN potentially a life-changing tool in baryon partial wave analysis, and this approach can be easily extended to accommodate other theoretical models and/or to include more experimental data.

Triply charmed baryons mass decomposition from lattice QCD

We present the first calculation of the connected scalar matrix element and the momentum fraction of charm quark within the$\frac{3}{2}^{+}$ and $\frac{3}{2}^{-}$triply charmed baryons on lattice QCD. The results are based on overlap valence fermions on two ensembles of $N_f=2+1$ domain wall fermion configurations with two lattice spacings. The corresponding sea quark pion masses are $300$ MeV and $278$ MeV. The separated contributions to the triply charmed baryon mass are derived through the decomposition of the QCD energy-momentum tensor. The contribution of the connected charm quark matrix element to the triply charmed baryon is about 3/2 times that of the charmonium. And it contributes almost 70% of the total mass. The mass splitting of $\frac{3}{2}^{+}$ and $\frac{3}{2}^{-}$triply charmed baryons is mainly from $\langle H_{E}\rangle$ of the QCD energy-momentum tensor. A mass decomposition from the quark model is also studied for comparison.

The Glueball content of $η_c$

We carry out the first lattice QCD derivation of the mixing energy and the mixing angle of the pseudoscalar charmonium and glueball on two gauge ensembles with $N_f=2$ degenerate dynamical charm quarks. The mixing energy is determined to be $49(6)$ MeV on the near physical charm ensemble, which seems insensitive to charm quark mass. By the assumption that $X(2370)$ is predominantly a pseudoscalar glueball, the mixing angle is determined to be approximately $4.6(6)^\circ$, which results in a $+3.9(9)$ MeV mass shift of the ground state pseudoscalar charmonium. In the mean time, the mixing can raise the total width of the pseudoscalar charmonium by 7.2(8) MeV, which explains to some extent the relative large total width of the $η_c$ meson. As a result, the branching fraction of $η_c\to γγ$ can be understood in this $c\bar{c}$-glueball mixing framework. On the other hand, the possible discrepancy of the theoretical predictions and the experimental results of the partial width of $J/ψ\toγη_c$ cannot be alleviated by the $c\bar{c}$-glueball mixing picture yet, which demands future precise experimental measurements of this partial width.

Mass spectrum and strong decays of strangeonium in a constituent quark model

In this work we calculate the mass spectrum of strangeonium up to the $3D$ multiplet within a nonrelativistic linear potential quark model. Furthermore, using the obtained wave functions, we also evaluate the strong decays of the strangeonium states with the $^3P_0$ model. Based on our successful explanations of the well established states $ϕ(1020)$, $ϕ(1680)$, $h_1(1415)$, $f'_2(1525)$, and $ϕ_3(1850)$, we further discuss the possible assignments of strangeonium-like states from experiments by combining our theoretical results with the observations. It is found that some resonances, such as $f_2(2010)$ and $f_2(2150)$ listed by the Particle Data Group, and $X(2062)$ and $X(2500)$ newly observed by BESIII, may be interpreted as the strangeonium states. The possibility of $ϕ(2170)$ as a candidate for $ϕ(3S)$ or $ϕ(2D)$ cannot be excluded. We expect our results to provide useful references for looking for the missing $s\bar{s}$ states in future experiments.

Self-Renormalization of Quasi-Light-Front Correlators on the Lattice

In applying large-momentum effective theory, renormalization of the Euclidean correlators in lattice regularization is a challenge due to linear divergences in the self-energy of Wilson lines. Based on lattice QCD matrix elements of the quasi-PDF operator at lattice spacing $a$= 0.03 fm $\sim$ 0.12 fm with clover and overlap valence quarks on staggered and domain-wall sea, we design a strategy to disentangle the divergent renormalization factors from finite physics matrix elements, which can be matched to a continuum scheme at short distance such as dimensional regularization and minimal subtraction. Our results indicate that the renormalization factors are universal in the hadron state matrix elements. Moreover, the physical matrix elements appear independent of the valence fermion formulations. These conclusions remain valid even with HYP smearing which reduces the statistical errors albeit reducing control of the renormalization procedure. Moreover, we find a large non-perturbative effect in the popular RI/MOM and ratio renormalization scheme, suggesting favor of the hybrid renormalization procedure proposed recently.

Study of the pseudoscalar glueball in $J/ψ$ radiative decays

We aim to explore the production rate of the pseudoscalar glueball in $J/ψ$ radiative decay by lattice QCD in quenched approximation. The calculation is performed on three anisotropic lattices with the spatial lattice spacing ranging from 0.222(2) fm to 0.110(1) fm. As a calibration of some systematical uncertainties, we first extract the $M1$ form factor $\hat{V}(0)$ of the process $J/ψ\toγη_{c}$ and get the result $\hat{V}(0)=1.933(41)$ in the continuum limit, which gives the partial width $Γ(J/ψ\toγη_{c})=2.47(11)$ keV. These results are in agreement with that of previous lattice studies. As for the pseudoscalar glueball $G_{0^{-+}}$, its mass is derived to be $2.395(14)$ GeV, and the form factor $\hat{V}(0)$ of the process $J/ψ\toγG_{0^{-+}}$ is determined to be $\hat{V}(0)=0.0246(43)$ after continuum extrapolation. Finally, the production rate of the pseudoscalar glueball is predicted to be $2.31(90)\times10^{-4}$, which is much smaller than that of conventional light $q\bar{q}$ $η$ states. After the subtraction of the phase space factor, the couplings of $J/ψXγ$ are similar where $X$ stands for $η$ states and the pseudoscalar glueball. Possibly, the $U_{A}(1)$ anomaly plays an important role for the large couplings of gluons to the flavor singlet $η$ states in $J/ψ$ radiative decays.

Canonical interpretation of $Y(10750)$ and $Υ(10860)$ in the $Υ$ family

Inspired by the new resonance $Y(10750)$, we calculate the masses and two-body OZI-allowed strong decays of the higher vector bottomonium sates within both screened and linear potential models. We discuss the possibilities of $Υ(10860)$ and $Y(10750)$ as mixed states via the $S-D$ mixing. Our results suggest that $Y(10750)$ and $Υ(10860)$ might be explained as mixed states between $5S$- and $4D$-wave vector $b\bar{b}$ states. The $Y(10750)$ and $Υ(10860)$ resonances may correspond to the mixed states dominated by the $4D$- and $5S$-wave components, respectively. The mass and the strong decay behaviors of the $Υ(11020)$ resonance are consistent with the assignment of the $Υ(6S)$ state in the potential models.

The excited bottom-charmed mesons in a nonrelativistic quark model

Using the newly measured masses of $B_c(1S)$ and $B_c(2S)$ from the CMS Collaboration and the $1S$ hyperfine splitting determined from the lattice QCD as constrains, we calculate the $B_c$ mass spectrum up to the $6S$ multiplet with a nonrelativistic linear potential model. Furthermore, using the wave functions from this model we calculate the radiative transitions between the $B_c$ states within a constituent quark model. For the higher mass $B_c$ states lying above $DB$ threshold, we also evaluate the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) allowed two-body strong decays with the $^{3}P_{0}$ model. Our study indicates that besides there are large potentials for the observations of the low-lying $B_c$ states below the $DB$ threshold via their radiative transitions, some higher mass $B_c$ states, such as $B_c(2^3P_2)$, $B_c(2^3D_1)$, $B_c(3^3D_1)$, $B_c(4^3P_0)$, and the $1F$-wave $B_c$ states, might be first observed in their dominant strong decay channels $DB$, $DB^*$ or $D^*B$ at the LHC for their relatively narrow widths.

Newly observed $Ω(2012)$ state and strong decays of the low-lying $Ω$ excitations

Stimulated by the newly discovered $Ω(2012)$ resonance at Belle II, in this work we have studied the OZI allowed strong decays of the low-lying $1P$- and $1D$-wave $Ω$ baryons within the $^3P_0$ model. It is found that $Ω(2012)$ is most likely to be a $1P$-wave $Ω$ state with $J^P=3/2^-$. We also find that the $Ω(2250)$ state could be assigned as a $1D$-wave state with $J^P=5/2^+$. The other missing $1P$- and $1D$-wave $Ω$ baryons may have large potentials to be observed in their main decay channels.

Glueball spectrum from $N_f=2$ lattice QCD study on anisotropic lattices

The lowest-lying glueballs are investigated in lattice QCD using $N_f=2$ clover Wilson fermion on anisotropic lattices. We simulate at two different and relatively heavy quark masses, corresponding to physical pion mass of $m_π\sim 938$ MeV and $650$ MeV. The quark mass dependence of the glueball masses have not been investigated in the present study. Only the gluonic operators built from Wilson loops are utilized in calculating the corresponding correlation functions. In the tensor channel, we obtain the ground state mass to be 2.363(39) GeV and 2.384(67) GeV at $m_π\sim 938$ MeV and $650$ MeV, respectively. In the pseudoscalar channel, when using the gluonic operator whose continuum limit has the form of $ε_{ijk}TrB_iD_jB_k$, we obtain the ground state mass to be 2.573(55) GeV and 2.585(65) GeV at the two pion masses. These results are compatible with the corresponding results in the quenched approximation. In contrast, if we use the topological charge density as field operators for the pseudoscalar, the masses of the lowest state are much lighter (around 1GeV) and compatible with the expected masses of the flavor singlet $q\bar{q}$ meson. This indicates that the operator $ε_{ijk}TrB_iD_jB_k$ and the topological charge density couple rather differently to the glueball states and $q\bar{q}$ mesons. The observation of the light flavor singlet pseudoscalar meson can be viewed as the manifestation of effects of dynamical quarks. In the scalar channel, the ground state masses extracted from the correlation functions of gluonic operators are determined to be around 1.4-1.5 GeV, which is close to the ground state masses from the correlation functions of the quark bilinear operators. In all cases, the mixing between glueballs and conventional mesons remains to be further clarified in the future.

Strong decays of higher charmonium states into open-charm meson pairs

The open-charm strong decays of higher charmonium states up to the mass of the $6P$ multiplet are systematically studied in the $^3P_0$ model. The wave functions of the initial charmonium states are calculated in the linear potential (LP) and screened potential (SP) quark model. The decay widths for most of the well-established charmonium states above the open-charm thresholds can be reasonably described. By comparing our quark model calculations with the experimental observations we also discuss the nature of some of the newly observed charmonium-like states. It is found that (i) the $ψ(4415)$ may favor the $ψ(4S)$ or $ψ_1(3D)$ assignment. There may exist two highly overlapping vector charmonium states around 4.4 GeV; (ii) In the LP model the $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ $Y(4660)$ resonance and the $J^{PC}=0^{++}$ $X(4500)$ resonance may be assigned as the $ψ(5S)$ and $χ_{c0}(4P)$, respectively; (iii) The newly observed state $X^*(3860)$ can be assigned as the $χ_{c0}(2P)$ state with a narrow width of about $30$ MeV; (iv) It seems to be difficult to accommodate the $X(4140)$ and $X(4274)$ states in the same potential model as excited $χ_{c1}$ states. (v) The $X(3940)$ resonance can be assigned as the $η_c(3S)$ state; (vi) The vector charmonium-like states $Y(4230/4260,4360)$ and scalar $X(4700)$ cannot be described by any conventional charmonium states self-consistently in our model.

Spectrum and electromagnetic transitions of bottomonium

Stimulated by the exciting progress in the observation of new bottomonium states, we study the bottomonium spectrum. To calculate the mass spectrum, we adopt a nonrelativistic screened potential model. The radial Schrödinger equation is solved with the three-point difference central method, where the spin-dependent potentials are dealt with non-perturbatively. With this treatment, the corrections of the spin-dependent potentials to the wave functions can be included successfully. Furthermore, we calculate the electromagnetic transitions of the $nS$ ($n\leq 4$), $nP$ ($n\leq 3$), and $nD$ ($n\leq 2$) bottomonium states with a nonrelativistic electromagnetic transition operator widely applied to meson photoproduction reactions. Our predicted masses, hyperfine and fine splittings, electromagnetic transition widths and branching ratios of the bottomonium states are in good agreement with the available experimental data. Especially, the EM transitions of $Υ(3S)\to χ_{b1,2}(1P)γ$, which were not well understood in previous studies, can be reasonably explained by considering the corrections of the spin-dependent interactions to the wave functions. We also discuss the observations of the missing bottomonium states by using radiative transitions. Some important radiative decay chains involving the missing bottomonium states are suggested to be observed. We hope our study can provide some useful references to observe and measure the properties of bottomonium mesons in forthcoming experiments.

Charmonium spectrum and their electromagnetic transitions with higher multipole contributions

The charmonium spectrum is calculated with two nonrelativistic quark models, the linear potential model and the screened potential model. Using the obtained wavefunctions, we evaluate the electromagnetic transitions of charmonium states up to $4S$ multiplet. The higher multipole contributions are included by a multipole expansion of the electromagnetic interactions. Our results are in reasonable agreement with the measurements. As conventional charmonium states, the radiative decay properties of the newly observed charmonium-like states, such as $X(3823)$, $X(3872)$, $X(4140/4274)$, are discussed. The $X(3823)$ as $ψ_2(1D)$, its radiative decay properties well agree with the observations. From the radiative decay properties of $X(3872)$, one can not exclude it as a $χ_{c1}(2P)$ dominant state. We also give discussions of possibly observing the missing charmonium states in radiative transitions, which might provide some useful references to look for them in forthcoming experiments. The higher multipole contributions to the electromagnetic transitions are analyzed as well. It is found that the higher contribution from the magnetic part could give notable corrections to some E1 dominant processes by interfering with the E1 amplitudes. Our predictions for the normalized magnetic quadrupole amplitudes $M_2$ of the $χ_{c1,2}(1P)\to J/ψγ$ processes are in good agreement with the recent CLEO measurements.

Exotic vector charmonium and its leptonic decay width

We propose a novel type of interpolating field operators, which manifests the hybrid-like configuration that the charm quark-antiquark pair recoils against gluonic degrees of freedom. A heavy vector charmonium-like state with a mass of $4.33(2)\,{\rm GeV}$ is disentangled from the conventional charmonium states in the quenched approximation. This state has affinity for the hybrid-like operators but couples less to the relevant quark bilinear operator. We also try to extract its leptonic decay constant and give a tentative upper limit that it is less than one tenth of that of $J/ψ$, which corresponds to a leptonic decay width about dozens of eV. The connection of this state with $X(4260)$ is also discussed.
