Nonlinear singular perturbations of the fractional Schrödinger equation in dimension one

The paper discusses nonlinear singular perturbations of delta type of the fractional Schrödinger equation $\imath\partial_tψ=\left(-\triangle\right)^sψ$, with $s\in(\frac{1}{2},1]$, in dimension one. Precisely, we investigate local and global well posedness (in a strong sense), conservations laws and existence of blow-up solutions and standing waves.

Nonlinear Dirac Equation On Graphs With Localized Nonlinearities: Bound States And Nonrelativistic Limit

In this paper we study the nonlinear Dirac (NLD) equation on noncompact metric graphs with localized Kerr nonlinearities, in the case of Kirchhoff-type conditions at the vertices. Precisely, we discuss existence and multiplicity of the bound states (arising as critical points of the NLD action functional) and we prove that, in the $L^2$-subcritical case, they converge to the bound states of the NLS equation in the nonrelativistic limit.

An overview on the standing waves of nonlinear Schrödinger and Dirac equations on metric graphs with localized nonlinearity

We present a brief overview on the existence/nonexistence of standing waves for the NonLinear Schrödinger and the NonLinear Dirac Equations (NLSE/NLDE) on metric graphs with localized nonlinearity. We first focus on the NLSE, both in the subcritical and the critical case, and then on the NLDE, highlighting similarities and differences with the NLSE. Finally, we show how the two equations are related in the nonrelativistic limit, proving the convergence of bound states.

An existence result for dissipative nonhomogeneous hyperbolic equations via a minimization approach

We discuss a purely variational approach to the study of a wide class of second order nonhomogeneous dissipative hyperbolic PDEs. Precisely, we focus on the wave-like equations that present also a nonzero source term and a first-order-in-time linear term. The paper carries on the research program initiated in (Serra&Tilli'12), and developed in (Serra&Tilli'16), (Tentarelli&Tilli '18), on the De Giorgi approach to hyperbolic equations.

Well-posedness of the Two-dimensional Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Concentrated Nonlinearity

We consider a two-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with concentrated nonlinearity. In both the focusing and defocusing case we prove local well-posedness, i.e., existence and uniqueness of the solution for short times, as well as energy and mass conservation. In addition, we prove that this implies global existence in the defocusing case, irrespective of the power of the nonlinearity, while in the focusing case blowing-up solutions may arise.

On the extensions of the De Giorgi approach to nonlinear hyperbolic equations

In this talk we present an overview on the extensions of the De Giorgi approach to general second order nonlinear hyperbolic equations. We start with an introduction to the original conjecture by E. De Giorgi (De Giorgi '96) and to its solution by E. Serra and P. Tilli (Serra&Tilli '12). Then, we discuss a first extension of this idea (Serra&Tilli '16) aimed at investigating a wide class of homogeneous equations. Finally, we announce a further extension to nonhomogeneous equations, obtained by the author in collaboration with P. Tilli (Tentarelli&Tilli '17).

De Giorgi's approach to hyperbolic Cauchy problems: the case of nonhomogeneous equations

In this paper we discuss an extension of some results obtained by E. Serra and P. Tilli, in [Serra&Tilli '12, Serra&Tilli '16], concerning an original conjecture by E. De Giorgi ([De Giorgi '96, De Giorgi '06]) on a purely minimization approach to the Cauchy problem for the defocusing nonlinear wave equation. Precisely, we show how to extend the techniques developed by Serra and Tilli for homogeneous hyperbolic nonlinear PDEs to the nonhomogeneous case, thus proving that the idea of De Giorgi yields in fact an effective approach to investigate general hyperbolic equations.

The action of Volterra integral operators with highly singular kernels on Hölder continuous, Lebesgue and Sobolev functions

For kernels $ν$ which are positive and integrable we show that the operator $g\mapsto J_νg=\int_0^x ν(x-s)g(s)ds$ on a finite time interval enjoys a regularizing effect when applied to Hölder continuous and Lebesgue functions and a "contractive" effect when applied to Sobolev functions. For Hölder continuous functions, we establish that the improvement of the regularity of the modulus of continuity is given by the integral of the kernel, namely by the factor $N(x)=\int_0^x ν(s)ds$. For functions in Lebesgue spaces, we prove that an improvement always exists, and it can be expressed in terms of Orlicz integrability. Finally, for functions in Sobolev spaces, we show that the operator $J_ν$ "shrinks" the norm of the argument by a factor that, as in the Hölder case, depends on the function $N$ (whereas no regularization result can be obtained). These results can be applied, for instance, to Abel kernels and to the Volterra function $\mathcal{I}(x) = μ(x,0,-1) = \int_{0}^{\infty}x^{s-1}/Γ(s)\,ds$, the latter being relevant for instance in the analysis of the Schrödinger equation with concentrated nonlinearities in $\mathbb{R}^{2}$.

On the lack of bound states for certain NLS equations on metric graphs

The purpose of this paper is to prove some results on the absence of bound states for certain nonlinear Schrödinger equations on noncompact metric graphs with localized nonlinearity. In particular, we show how the topological and metric properties of graphs affect the existence/nonexistence of bound states. This work completes the discussion initiated in [17, 18].

Bound states of the NLS equation on metric graphs with localized nonlinearities

We investigate the existence of multiple bound states of prescribed mass for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on a noncompact metric graph. The main feature is that the nonlinearity is localized only in a compact part of the graph. Our main result states that for every integer k, the equation possesses at least k solutions of prescribed mass, provided that the mass is large enough. These solutions arise as constrained critical points of the NLS energy functional. Estimates for the energy of the solutions are also established.

NLS ground states on metric graphs with localized nonlinearities

We investigate the existence of ground states for the focusing subcritical NLS energy on metric graphs with localized nonlinearities. In particular, we find two thresholds on the measure of the region where the nonlinearity is localized that imply, respectively, existence or nonexistence of ground states. In order to obtain these results we adapt to the context of metric graphs some classical techniques from the Calculus of Variations.
