Vanishing Viscosity Limits of Scalar Equations with Degenerate Diffusivity

We consider a scalar, possibly degenerate parabolic equation with a source term, in several space dimensions. For initial data with bounded variation we prove the existence of solutions to the initial-value problem. Then we show that these solutions converge, in the vanishing-viscosity limit, to the Kruzhkov entropy solution of the corresponding hyperbolic equation. The proof exploits the H-measure compactness in several space dimensions.

Sharp profiles in models of collective movements

We consider a parabolic partial differential equation that can be understood as a simple model for crowds flows. Our main assumption is that the diffusivity and the source/sink term vanish at the same point; the nonhomogeneous term is different from zero at any other point and so the equation is not monostable. We investigate the existence, regularity and monotone properties of semi-wavefront solutions as well as their convergence to wavefront solutions.

Convergence of the regularized short pulse equation to the short pulse one

We consider the regularized short-pulse equation, which contains nonlinear dis- persive effects. We prove that as the diffusion parameter tends to zero, the solutions of the dispersive equation converge to discontinuous weak solutions of the short-pulse one. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compensated compactness method in the Lp setting.

Convergence of the Ostrovsky equation to the Ostrovsky-Hunter one

We consider the Ostrovsky equation, which contains nonlinear dispersive effects. We prove that as the diffusion parameter tend to zero, the solutions of the dispersive equation converge to discontinuous weak solutions of the Ostrovsky-Hunter equation. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compensated compactness method in the L^p setting.
