A Peaceman-Rachford Splitting Approach with Deep Equilibrium Network for Channel Estimation

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is pivotal for wireless systems, yet its high-dimensional, stochastic channel poses significant challenges for accurate estimation, highlighting the critical need for robust estimation techniques. In this paper, we introduce a novel channel estimation method for the MIMO system. The main idea is to construct a fixed-point equation for channel estimation, which can be implemented into the deep equilibrium (DEQ) model with a fixed network. Specifically, the Peaceman-Rachford (PR) splitting method is applied to the dual form of the regularized minimization problem to construct fixed-point equation with non-expansive property. Then, the fixed-point equation is implemented into the DEQ model with a fixed layer, leveraging its advantage of the low training complexity. Moreover, we provide a rigorous theoretical analysis, demonstrating the convergence and optimality of our approach. Additionally, simulations of hybrid far- and near-field channels demonstrate that our approach yields favorable results, indicating its ability to advance channel estimation in MIMO system.

Reconstructing the electro-weak theory from a gauge theory

U(4) local transformations on the four Weyl spinors forming the isospin doublet of Dirac fermions are assumed as symmetries of the standard model. With the Lorentz transformations considered simultaneously, the symmetry group is enlarged in order to form a closed Lie algebra. In this framework, the chirality mixing gauge components with certain constraints collectively are identified as the Higgs field in the standard model. The scalar-appearance of the gauge-natured Higgs field and its varying coupling constants with the fermions, i.e. the mass-ratio parameters, are also given natural explanation. Additionally, a background of a constant right-handed gauge component is postulated to obtain the symmetry-breaking Higgs potential, which leads to a possible explanation of the parity violation in weak interactions. Further, the new framework provides an alternative perspective to understand the hyper symmetry U(1)Y , as a combination of a simultaneous phase rotation on both the left and right handed fermions and a rotation in the third direction of SU(2)R on the right-handed fermions. At last, a topological term involving the Higgs field is found to exist.

Robustness and Security Enhancement of Radio Frequency Fingerprint Identification in Time-Varying Channels

Radio frequency fingerprint identification (RFFI) is becoming increasingly popular, especially in applications with constrained power, such as the Internet of Things (IoT). Due to subtle manufacturing variations, wireless devices have unique radio frequency fingerprints (RFFs). These RFFs can be used with pattern recognition algorithms to classify wireless devices. However, Implementing reliable RFFI in time-varying channels is challenging because RFFs are often distorted by channel effects, reducing the classification accuracy. This paper introduces a new channel-robust RFF, and leverages transfer learning to enhance RFFI in the time-varying channels. Experimental results show that the proposed RFFI system achieved an average classification accuracy improvement of 33.3 % in indoor environments and 34.5 % in outdoor environments. This paper also analyzes the security of the proposed RFFI system to address the security flaw in formalized impersonation attacks. Since RFF collection is being carried out in uncontrolled deployment environments, RFFI systems can be targeted with false RFFs sent by rogue devices. The resulting classifiers may classify the rogue devices as legitimate, effectively replacing their true identities. To defend against impersonation attacks, a novel keyless countermeasure is proposed, which exploits the intrinsic output of the softmax function after classifier training without sacrificing the lightweight nature of RFFI. Experimental results demonstrate an average increase of 0.3 in the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), with a 40.0 % improvement in attack detection rate in indoor and outdoor environments.

Semantics-Preserved Distortion for Personal Privacy Protection in Information Management

In recent years, machine learning - particularly deep learning - has significantly impacted the field of information management. While several strategies have been proposed to restrict models from learning and memorizing sensitive information from raw texts, this paper suggests a more linguistically-grounded approach to distort texts while maintaining semantic integrity. To this end, we leverage Neighboring Distribution Divergence, a novel metric to assess the preservation of semantic meaning during distortion. Building on this metric, we present two distinct frameworks for semantic-preserving distortion: a generative approach and a substitutive approach. Our evaluations across various tasks, including named entity recognition, constituency parsing, and machine reading comprehension, affirm the plausibility and efficacy of our distortion technique in personal privacy protection. We also test our method against attribute attacks in three privacy-focused assignments within the NLP domain, and the findings underscore the simplicity and efficacy of our data-based improvement approach over structural improvement approaches. Moreover, we explore privacy protection in a specific medical information management scenario, showing our method effectively limits sensitive data memorization, underscoring its practicality.

The Music Maestro or The Musically Challenged, A Massive Music Evaluation Benchmark for Large Language Models

Benchmark plays a pivotal role in assessing the advancements of large language models (LLMs). While numerous benchmarks have been proposed to evaluate LLMs' capabilities, there is a notable absence of a dedicated benchmark for assessing their musical abilities. To address this gap, we present ZIQI-Eval, a comprehensive and large-scale music benchmark specifically designed to evaluate the music-related capabilities of LLMs. ZIQI-Eval encompasses a wide range of questions, covering 10 major categories and 56 subcategories, resulting in over 14,000 meticulously curated data entries. By leveraging ZIQI-Eval, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation over 16 LLMs to evaluate and analyze LLMs' performance in the domain of music. Results indicate that all LLMs perform poorly on the ZIQI-Eval benchmark, suggesting significant room for improvement in their musical capabilities. With ZIQI-Eval, we aim to provide a standardized and robust evaluation framework that facilitates a comprehensive assessment of LLMs' music-related abilities. The dataset is available at GitHub\footnote{https://github.com/zcli-charlie/ZIQI-Eval} and HuggingFace\footnote{https://huggingface.co/datasets/MYTH-Lab/ZIQI-Eval}.

Frequency-based Matcher for Long-tailed Semantic Segmentation

The successful application of semantic segmentation technology in the real world has been among the most exciting achievements in the computer vision community over the past decade. Although the long-tailed phenomenon has been investigated in many fields, e.g., classification and object detection, it has not received enough attention in semantic segmentation and has become a non-negligible obstacle to applying semantic segmentation technology in autonomous driving and virtual reality. Therefore, in this work, we focus on a relatively under-explored task setting, long-tailed semantic segmentation (LTSS). We first establish three representative datasets from different aspects, i.e., scene, object, and human. We further propose a dual-metric evaluation system and construct the LTSS benchmark to demonstrate the performance of semantic segmentation methods and long-tailed solutions. We also propose a transformer-based algorithm to improve LTSS, frequency-based matcher, which solves the oversuppression problem by one-to-many matching and automatically determines the number of matching queries for each class. Given the comprehensiveness of this work and the importance of the issues revealed, this work aims to promote the empirical study of semantic segmentation tasks. Our datasets, codes, and models will be publicly available.

QML-IB: Quantized Collaborative Intelligence between Multiple Devices and the Mobile Network

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile networks is regarded as one of the most important scenarios for 6G. In 6G, a major objective is to realize the efficient transmission of task-relevant data. Then a key problem arises, how to design collaborative AI models for the device side and the network side, so that the transmitted data between the device and the network is efficient enough, which means the transmission overhead is low but the AI task result is accurate. In this paper, we propose the multi-link information bottleneck (ML-IB) scheme for such collaborative models design. We formulate our problem based on a novel performance metric, which can evaluate both task accuracy and transmission overhead. Then we introduce a quantizer that is adjustable in the quantization bit depth, amplitudes, and breakpoints. Given the infeasibility of calculating our proposed metric on high-dimensional data, we establish a variational upper bound for this metric. However, due to the incorporation of quantization, the closed form of the variational upper bound remains uncomputable. Hence, we employ the Log-Sum Inequality to derive an approximation and provide a theoretical guarantee. Based on this, we devise the quantized multi-link information bottleneck (QML-IB) algorithm for collaborative AI models generation. Finally, numerical experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our QML-IB algorithm compared to the state-of-the-art algorithm.

Multiple Ising interfaces in annulus and $2N$-sided radial SLE

We consider critical planar Ising model in annulus with alternating boundary conditions on the outer boundary and free boundary conditions in the inner boundary. As the size of the inner hole goes to zero, the event that all interfaces get close to the inner hole before they meet each other is a rare event. We prove that the law of the collection of the interfaces conditional on this rare event converges in total variation distance to the so-called $2N$-sided radial SLE$_3$, introduced by~[HL21]. The proof relies crucially on an estimate for multiple chordal SLE. Suppose $(γ_1, \ldots, γ_N)$ is chordal $N$-SLE$_κ$ with $κ\in (0,4]$ in the unit disc, and we consider the probability that all $N$ curves get close to the origin. We prove that the limit $\lim_{r\to 0+}r^{-A_{2N}}\mathbb{P}[\mathrm{dist}(0,γ_j)<r, 1\le j\le N]$ exists, where $A_{2N}$ is the so-called $2N$-arm exponents and $\mathrm{dist}$ is Euclidean distance. We call the limit Green's function for chordal $N$-SLE$_κ$. This estimate is a generalization of previous conclusions with $N=1$ and $N=2$ proved in~[LR12, LR15] and~[Zha20] respectively.

E4C: Enhance Editability for Text-Based Image Editing by Harnessing Efficient CLIP Guidance

Diffusion-based image editing is a composite process of preserving the source image content and generating new content or applying modifications. While current editing approaches have made improvements under text guidance, most of them have only focused on preserving the information of the input image, disregarding the importance of editability and alignment to the target prompt. In this paper, we prioritize the editability by proposing a zero-shot image editing method, named \textbf{E}nhance \textbf{E}ditability for text-based image \textbf{E}diting via \textbf{E}fficient \textbf{C}LIP guidance (\textbf{E4C}), which only requires inference-stage optimization to explicitly enhance the edibility and text alignment. Specifically, we develop a unified dual-branch feature-sharing pipeline that enables the preservation of the structure or texture of the source image while allowing the other to be adapted based on the editing task. We further integrate CLIP guidance into our pipeline by utilizing our novel random-gateway optimization mechanism to efficiently enhance the semantic alignment with the target prompt. Comprehensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate that our method effectively resolves the text alignment issues prevalent in existing methods while maintaining the fidelity to the source image, and performs well across a wide range of editing tasks.

Deep Learning Technique for Human Parsing: A Survey and Outlook

Human parsing aims to partition humans in image or video into multiple pixel-level semantic parts. In the last decade, it has gained significantly increased interest in the computer vision community and has been utilized in a broad range of practical applications, from security monitoring, to social media, to visual special effects, just to name a few. Although deep learning-based human parsing solutions have made remarkable achievements, many important concepts, existing challenges, and potential research directions are still confusing. In this survey, we comprehensively review three core sub-tasks: single human parsing, multiple human parsing, and video human parsing, by introducing their respective task settings, background concepts, relevant problems and applications, representative literature, and datasets. We also present quantitative performance comparisons of the reviewed methods on benchmark datasets. Additionally, to promote sustainable development of the community, we put forward a transformer-based human parsing framework, providing a high-performance baseline for follow-up research through universal, concise, and extensible solutions. Finally, we point out a set of under-investigated open issues in this field and suggest new directions for future study. We also provide a regularly updated project page, to continuously track recent developments in this fast-advancing field: https://github.com/soeaver/awesome-human-parsing.

FSSD: Feature Fusion Single Shot Multibox Detector

SSD (Single Shot Multibox Detector) is one of the best object detection algorithms with both high accuracy and fast speed. However, SSD's feature pyramid detection method makes it hard to fuse the features from different scales. In this paper, we proposed FSSD (Feature Fusion Single Shot Multibox Detector), an enhanced SSD with a novel and lightweight feature fusion module which can improve the performance significantly over SSD with just a little speed drop. In the feature fusion module, features from different layers with different scales are concatenated together, followed by some down-sampling blocks to generate new feature pyramid, which will be fed to multibox detectors to predict the final detection results. On the Pascal VOC 2007 test, our network can achieve 82.7 mAP (mean average precision) at the speed of 65.8 FPS (frame per second) with the input size 300$\times$300 using a single Nvidia 1080Ti GPU. In addition, our result on COCO is also better than the conventional SSD with a large margin. Our FSSD outperforms a lot of state-of-the-art object detection algorithms in both aspects of accuracy and speed. Code is available at https://github.com/lzx1413/CAFFE_SSD/tree/fssd.

Diagnostics for Regression Models with Semicontinuous Outcomes

Semicontinuous outcomes commonly arise in a wide variety of fields, such as insurance claims, healthcare expenditures, rainfall amounts, and alcohol consumption. Regression models, including Tobit, Tweedie, and two-part models, are widely employed to understand the relationship between semicontinuous outcomes and covariates. Given the potential detrimental consequences of model misspecification, after fitting a regression model, it is of prime importance to check the adequacy of the model. However, due to the point mass at zero, standard diagnostic tools for regression models (e.g., deviance and Pearson residuals) are not informative for semicontinuous data. To bridge this gap, we propose a new type of residuals for semicontinuous outcomes that are applicable to general regression models. Under the correctly specified model, the proposed residuals converge to being uniformly distributed, and when the model is misspecified, they significantly depart from this pattern. In addition to in-sample validation, the proposed methodology can also be employed to evaluate predictive distributions. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed tool using health expenditure data from the US Medical Expenditure Panel Survey.

Double Probability Integral Transform Residuals for Regression Models with Discrete Outcomes

The assessment of regression models with discrete outcomes is challenging and has many fundamental issues. With discrete outcomes, standard regression model assessment tools such as Pearson and deviance residuals do not follow the conventional reference distribution (normal) under the true model, calling into question the legitimacy of model assessment based on these tools. To fill this gap, we construct a new type of residuals for general discrete outcomes, including ordinal and count outcomes. The proposed residuals are based on two layers of probability integral transformation. When at least one continuous covariate is available, the proposed residuals closely follow a uniform distribution (or a normal distribution after transformation) under the correctly specified model. One can construct visualizations such as QQ plots to check the overall fit of a model straightforwardly, and the shape of QQ plots can further help identify possible causes of misspecification such as overdispersion. We provide theoretical justification for the proposed residuals by establishing their asymptotic properties. Moreover, in order to assess the mean structure and identify potential covariates, we develop an ordered curve as a supplementary tool, which is based on the comparison between the partial sum of outcomes and of fitted means. Through simulation, we demonstrate empirically that the proposed tools outperform commonly used residuals for various model assessment tasks. We also illustrate the workflow of model assessment using the proposed tools in data analysis.

RO-MAP: Real-Time Multi-Object Mapping with Neural Radiance Fields

Accurate perception of objects in the environment is important for improving the scene understanding capability of SLAM systems. In robotic and augmented reality applications, object maps with semantic and metric information show attractive advantages. In this paper, we present RO-MAP, a novel multi-object mapping pipeline that does not rely on 3D priors. Given only monocular input, we use neural radiance fields to represent objects and couple them with a lightweight object SLAM based on multi-view geometry, to simultaneously localize objects and implicitly learn their dense geometry. We create separate implicit models for each detected object and train them dynamically and in parallel as new observations are added. Experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that our method can generate semantic object map with shape reconstruction, and be competitive with offline methods while achieving real-time performance (25Hz). The code and dataset will be available at: https://github.com/XiaoHan-Git/RO-MAP

What Decreases Editing Capability? Domain-Specific Hybrid Refinement for Improved GAN Inversion

Recently, inversion methods have focused on additional high-rate information in the generator (e.g., weights or intermediate features) to refine inversion and editing results from embedded latent codes. Although these techniques gain reasonable improvement in reconstruction, they decrease editing capability, especially on complex images (e.g., containing occlusions, detailed backgrounds, and artifacts). A vital crux is refining inversion results, avoiding editing capability degradation. To tackle this problem, we introduce Domain-Specific Hybrid Refinement (DHR), which draws on the advantages and disadvantages of two mainstream refinement techniques to maintain editing ability with fidelity improvement. Specifically, we first propose Domain-Specific Segmentation to segment images into two parts: in-domain and out-of-domain parts. The refinement process aims to maintain the editability for in-domain areas and improve two domains' fidelity. We refine these two parts by weight modulation and feature modulation, which we call Hybrid Modulation Refinement. Our proposed method is compatible with all latent code embedding methods. Extension experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art in real image inversion and editing. Code is available at https://github.com/caopulan/Domain-Specific_Hybrid_Refinement_Inversion.
