A Census of Pulsars in Possible Association with Galactic Open Clusters

Among the $\sim 4000$ known pulsars in our Galaxy, $\lesssim 10\%$ are found in globular clusters, but none has been confirmed in any open clusters yet, although they outnumber globular clusters by about 20 times. In this work, we make use of the Gaia DR3 catalog of Galactic open clusters and conduct a pulsar census, in order to identify pulsars that are either 1) current members of open clusters, or 2) escaped from open clusters to the field. Among 164 pulsars with independent distance measurements and 3530 open clusters, we find that 4 pulsars are likely residing in open clusters. In particular, we find compelling evidence that the binary pulsar J1302$-$6350 (B1259$-$63) is a member of the open cluster UBC~525; based on Gaia data, we update its distance to be $2.26\pm 0.07$~kpc and measure the mass of its companion Be star LS 2883 to be $16.8 M_\odot$. For 145 pulsars with both distance and proper motion measurements and 2967 open clusters with full kinematic parameters, we trace the past trajectories of both pulsars and open clusters in the Galactic gravitational potential, and find pulsars that were within 3 times the radius of a cluster. This results in 19 pulsars that were likely born in open clusters. We discuss implications for the formation history of PSR J1302$-$6350 and highlight the scientific potential of searching for pulsars in open clusters.

Beyond State Space Representation: A General Theory for Kernel Packets

Gaussian process (GP) regression provides a flexible, nonparametric framework for probabilistic modeling, yet remains computationally demanding in large-scale applications. For one-dimensional data, state space (SS) models achieve linear-time inference by reformulating GPs as stochastic differential equations (SDEs). However, SS approaches are confined to gridded inputs and cannot handle multi-dimensional scattered data. We propose a new framework based on kernel packet (KP), which overcomes these limitations while retaining exactness and scalability. A KP is a compactly supported function defined as a linear combination of the GP covariance functions. In this article, we prove that KPs can be identified via the forward and backward SS representations. We also show that the KP approach enables exact inference with linear-time training and logarithmic or constant-time prediction, and extends naturally to multi-dimensional gridded or scattered data without low-rank approximations. Numerical experiments on large-scale additive and product-form GPs with millions of samples demonstrate that KPs achieve exact, memory-efficient inference where SDE-based and low-rank GP methods fail.

Moiré Superradiance in Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics with Quantum Atom Gas

As a novel platform for exploring exotic quantum phenomena, the moiré lattice has garnered significant interest in solid-state physics, photonics, and cold atom physics. While moiré lattices in two- and three-dimensional systems have been proposed for neutral cold atoms, the simpler one-dimensional moiré effect remains largely unexplored. We present a scheme demonstrating moiré effects in a one-dimensional cold atom-cavity coupling system, which resembles a generalized open Dicke model exhibiting superradiant phase transitions. We reveal a strong link between the phase transition critical point and the one-dimensional moiré parameter. Evidences of the one-dimensional moiré effect are explicitly explored, including cavity field spectrum, phase transition dynamics, and anomalous atomic diffusion. This work provides a new route for testing one-dimensional moiré effects with cold atoms and open new possibility of moiré metrology.

WebGeoInfer: A Structure-Free and Multi-Stage Framework for Geolocation Inference of Devices Exposing Information

Remote management devices facilitate critical infrastructure monitoring for administrators but simultaneously increase asset exposure. Sensitive geographical information overlooked in exposed device management pages poses substantial security risks. Therefore, identifying devices that reveal location information due to administrator negligence is crucial for cybersecurity regulation. Despite the rich information exposed by web interfaces of remote management devices, automatically discovering geographical locations remains challenging due to unstructured formats, varying styles, and incomplete geographical details. This study introduces WebGeoInfer, a structure-free geolocation inference framework utilizing multi-stage information enhancement. WebGeoInfer clusters similar device web pages and analyzes inter-cluster differences to extract potential geographical information, bypassing structural limitations. Through search engine enhancement and Large Language Models mining, the framework extracts geographical coordinates from identified information. WebGeoInfer successfully inferred locations for 5,435 devices across 94 countries and 2,056 cities, achieving accuracy rates of 96.96\%, 88.05\%, and 79.70\% at country, city, and street levels, respectively.

MirGuard: Towards a Robust Provenance-based Intrusion Detection System Against Graph Manipulation Attacks

Learning-based Provenance-based Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDSes) have become essential tools for anomaly detection in host systems due to their ability to capture rich contextual and structural information, as well as their potential to detect unknown attacks. However, recent studies have shown that these systems are vulnerable to graph manipulation attacks, where attackers manipulate the graph structure to evade detection. While some previous approaches have discussed this type of attack, none have fully addressed it with a robust detection solution, limiting the practical applicability of PIDSes. To address this challenge, we propose MirGuard, a robust anomaly detection framework that combines logic-aware multi-view augmentation with contrastive representation learning. Rather than applying arbitrary structural perturbations, MirGuard introduces Logic-Aware Noise Injection (LNI) to generate semantically valid graph views, ensuring that all augmentations preserve the underlying causal semantics of the provenance data. These views are then used in a Logic-Preserving Contrastive Learning framework, which encourages the model to learn representations that are invariant to benign transformations but sensitive to adversarial inconsistencies. Comprehensive evaluations on multiple provenance datasets demonstrate that MirGuard significantly outperforms state-of-the-art detectors in robustness against various graph manipulation attacks without sacrificing detection performance and efficiency. Our work represents the first targeted study to enhance PIDS against such adversarial threats, providing a robust and effective solution to modern cybersecurity challenges.

Adversarial Attacks of Vision Tasks in the Past 10 Years: A Survey

With the advent of Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs), new attack vectors, such as cognitive bias, prompt injection, and jailbreaking, have emerged. Understanding these attacks promotes system robustness improvement and neural networks demystification. However, existing surveys often target attack taxonomy and lack in-depth analysis like 1) unified insights into adversariality, transferability, and generalization; 2) detailed evaluations framework; 3) motivation-driven attack categorizations; and 4) an integrated perspective on both traditional and LVLM attacks. This article addresses these gaps by offering a thorough summary of traditional and LVLM adversarial attacks, emphasizing their connections and distinctions, and providing actionable insights for future research.

Detection and Characterization of Quasi-Periodic Oscillations in Seyfert Galaxy NGC 4151

This study aims to detect and characterize quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) signals in X-ray observations of NGC 4151. We employed the Weighted Wavelet Z-transform (WWZ) and Lomb-Scargle periodogram (LSP) methods for our analysis. QPO signals with frequencies of 5.91 $\times 10^{-4}$ Hz and 5.68 $\times 10^{-4}$ Hz were detected in observations conducted by Chandra (ObsID 7830) in 2007 and XMM-Newton (ObsID 0761670301) in 2015, with confidence levels of 3.7 $σ$ and 3.3 $σ$, respectively. These signals are the first to be independently observed by two different telescopes over an eight-year period with closely matched frequencies. Most notably, the combined confidence level of the QPO signals from these two independent observations reaches an exceptional 5.2 $σ$, which is rare in astrophysical research and significantly strengthens our conviction in the authenticity of these signals. A detailed analysis of the observational data suggests that these QPO signals may be correlated with the properties of the central supermassive black hole. Additionally, spectral analysis of the observational data revealed no significant spectral differences between the QPO and non-QPO segments. These findings provide new insights into the X-ray variability mechanisms of the central black hole in NGC 4151 and offer a novel perspective for black hole mass estimation.

A Retrieval-Augmented Knowledge Mining Method with Deep Thinking LLMs for Biomedical Research and Clinical Support

Knowledge graphs and large language models (LLMs) are key tools for biomedical knowledge integration and reasoning, facilitating structured organization of scientific articles and discovery of complex semantic relationships. However, current methods face challenges: knowledge graph construction is limited by complex terminology, data heterogeneity, and rapid knowledge evolution, while LLMs show limitations in retrieval and reasoning, making it difficult to uncover cross-document associations and reasoning pathways. To address these issues, we propose a pipeline that uses LLMs to construct a biomedical knowledge graph (BioStrataKG) from large-scale articles and builds a cross-document question-answering dataset (BioCDQA) to evaluate latent knowledge retrieval and multi-hop reasoning. We then introduce Integrated and Progressive Retrieval-Augmented Reasoning (IP-RAR) to enhance retrieval accuracy and knowledge reasoning. IP-RAR maximizes information recall through Integrated Reasoning-based Retrieval and refines knowledge via Progressive Reasoning-based Generation, using self-reflection to achieve deep thinking and precise contextual understanding. Experiments show that IP-RAR improves document retrieval F1 score by 20\% and answer generation accuracy by 25\% over existing methods. This framework helps doctors efficiently integrate treatment evidence for personalized medication plans and enables researchers to analyze advancements and research gaps, accelerating scientific discovery and decision-making.

Dynamical quantum phase transitions in a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate and criticality enhanced quantum sensing

Quantum phase transitions universally exist in the ground and excited states of quantum many-body systems, and they have a close relationship with the nonequilibrium dynamical phase transitions, which however are challenging to identify. In the system of spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates, though dynamical phase transitions with correspondence to equilibrium phase transitions in the ground state and uppermost excited state have been probed, those taken place in intermediate excited states remain untouched in experiments thus far. Here we unravel that both the ground and excited-state quantum phase transitions in spinor condensates can be diagnosed with dynamical phase transitions. A connection between equilibrium phase transitions and nonequilibrium behaviors of the system is disclosed in terms of the quantum Fisher information. We also demonstrate that near the critical points parameter estimation beyond standard quantum limit can be implemented. This work not only advances the exploration of excited-state quantum phase transitions via a scheme that can immediately be applied to a broad class of few-mode quantum systems, but also provides new perspective on the relationship between quantum criticality and quantum enhanced sensing.

Improving Adversarial Transferability on Vision Transformers via Forward Propagation Refinement

Vision Transformers (ViTs) have been widely applied in various computer vision and vision-language tasks. To gain insights into their robustness in practical scenarios, transferable adversarial examples on ViTs have been extensively studied. A typical approach to improving adversarial transferability is by refining the surrogate model. However, existing work on ViTs has restricted their surrogate refinement to backward propagation. In this work, we instead focus on Forward Propagation Refinement (FPR) and specifically refine two key modules of ViTs: attention maps and token embeddings. For attention maps, we propose Attention Map Diversification (AMD), which diversifies certain attention maps and also implicitly imposes beneficial gradient vanishing during backward propagation. For token embeddings, we propose Momentum Token Embedding (MTE), which accumulates historical token embeddings to stabilize the forward updates in both the Attention and MLP blocks. We conduct extensive experiments with adversarial examples transferred from ViTs to various CNNs and ViTs, demonstrating that our FPR outperforms the current best (backward) surrogate refinement by up to 7.0\% on average. We also validate its superiority against popular defenses and its compatibility with other transfer methods. Codes and appendix are available at https://github.com/RYC-98/FPR.

Mechanism of Electricacupuncture Treating Detrusor Bladder Neck Dyscoordination After Suprasacral Spinal Cord Injury by Proteomics

Objectives This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanisms of electroacupuncture (EA) in restoring detrusor-bladder neck dyssynergesia (DBND) following suprasacral spinal cord injury. Methods A total of 52 adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to either a sham group (n=12) or a spinal cord injury model group (n=40). In the model group, DBND was induced in 40 rats through Hassan Shaker spinal cord transection, with 24 rats surviving spinal shock and subsequently randomized into two groups: a model-only group (DBND, n=12) and an EA intervention group (DBND+EA, n=12). DBND+EA was administered at Ciliao (BL32), Zhongji (RN3), and Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupoints, for 20 minutes per session, once daily for 10 consecutive days. On day 29 post-injury, all rats underwent urodynamic assessments, followed by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, tandem mass tag (TMT) proteomics, and Western blot (WB) analysis of the detrusor and bladder neck tissues. Results Urodynamic evaluation demonstrated that EA intervention enhanced bladder function in DBND rats. HE staining indicated reduced fibroplasia in the detrusor muscle and alleviated inflammation in the bladder neck following EA. TMT proteomic analysis revealed 30 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in the detrusor and 59 DEPs in the bladder neck post-EA treatment. WB results corroborated these TMT findings. Conclusion EA effectively promotes synergy between the detrusor muscle and bladder neck in DBND, likely by enhancing detrusor contractility and facilitating bladder neck relaxation during urination. This study provides mechanistic insights into the therapeutic role of EA in managing DBND.

PSR J1922+37: a 1.9-second pulsar discovered in the direction of the old open cluster NGC 6791

More than 300 pulsars have been discovered in Galactic globular clusters; however, none have been found in open clusters. Here we present results from 20-hour pulsar searching observations in seven open clusters with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Our first discovery is a 1.9-second pulsar (J1922+37) found in the direction of the old open cluster NGC 6791. The measured dispersion measure (DM) implies a distance of 4.79 kpc and 8.92 kpc based on the NE2001 and YMW16 electron density models, respectively. Given the large uncertainty of DM distance estimates, it is likely that PSR J1922+37 is indeed a member of NGC 6791, for which the distance is $4.19\pm0.02$ kpc based on Gaia Data Release 3. If confirmed, PSR J1922+37 will be the first pulsar found in Galactic open clusters. We outline future observations that can confirm this pulsar-open cluster association and discuss the general prospects of finding pulsars in open clusters.

Dynamic Frequency-Adaptive Knowledge Distillation for Speech Enhancement

Deep learning-based speech enhancement (SE) models have recently outperformed traditional techniques, yet their deployment on resource-constrained devices remains challenging due to high computational and memory demands. This paper introduces a novel dynamic frequency-adaptive knowledge distillation (DFKD) approach to effectively compress SE models. Our method dynamically assesses the model's output, distinguishing between high and low-frequency components, and adapts the learning objectives to meet the unique requirements of different frequency bands, capitalizing on the SE task's inherent characteristics. To evaluate the DFKD's efficacy, we conducted experiments on three state-of-the-art models: DCCRN, ConTasNet, and DPTNet. The results demonstrate that our method not only significantly enhances the performance of the compressed model (student model) but also surpasses other logit-based knowledge distillation methods specifically for SE tasks.

Bi-Josephson Effect in a Driven-Dissipative Supersolid

The Josephson effect is a macroscopic quantum tunneling phenomenon in a system with superfluid property, when it is split into two parts by a barrier. Here, we examine the Josephson effect in a driven-dissipative supersolid realized by coupling Bose-Einstein condensates to an optical ring cavity. We show that the spontaneous breaking of spatial translation symmetry in supersolid makes the location of the splitting barrier have a significant influence on the Josephson effect. Remarkably, for the same splitting barrier, depending on its location, two different types of DC Josephson currents are found in the supersolid phase (compared to only one type found in the superfluid phase). Thus, we term it a bi-Josephson effect. We examine the Josephson relationships and critical Josephson currents in detail, revealing that the emergence of supersolid order affects these two types of DC Josephson currents differently -- one is enhanced, while the other is suppressed. The findings of this work unveil unique Josephson physics in the supersolid phase, and show new opportunities to build novel Josephson devices with supersolids.

Improving Integrated Gradient-based Transferable Adversarial Examples by Refining the Integration Path

Transferable adversarial examples are known to cause threats in practical, black-box attack scenarios. A notable approach to improving transferability is using integrated gradients (IG), originally developed for model interpretability. In this paper, we find that existing IG-based attacks have limited transferability due to their naive adoption of IG in model interpretability. To address this limitation, we focus on the IG integration path and refine it in three aspects: multiplicity, monotonicity, and diversity, supported by theoretical analyses. We propose the Multiple Monotonic Diversified Integrated Gradients (MuMoDIG) attack, which can generate highly transferable adversarial examples on different CNN and ViT models and defenses. Experiments validate that MuMoDIG outperforms the latest IG-based attack by up to 37.3\% and other state-of-the-art attacks by 8.4\%. In general, our study reveals that migrating established techniques to improve transferability may require non-trivial efforts. Code is available at \url{https://github.com/RYC-98/MuMoDIG}.

The KnowWhereGraph Ontology

KnowWhereGraph is one of the largest fully publicly available geospatial knowledge graphs. It includes data from 30 layers on natural hazards (e.g., hurricanes, wildfires), climate variables (e.g., air temperature, precipitation), soil properties, crop and land-cover types, demographics, and human health, various place and region identifiers, among other themes. These have been leveraged through the graph by a variety of applications to address challenges in food security and agricultural supply chains; sustainability related to soil conservation practices and farm labor; and delivery of emergency humanitarian aid following a disaster. In this paper, we introduce the ontology that acts as the schema for KnowWhereGraph. This broad overview provides insight into the requirements and design specifications for the graph and its schema, including the development methodology (modular ontology modeling) and the resources utilized to implement, materialize, and deploy KnowWhereGraph with its end-user interfaces and public query SPARQL endpoint.

VPVet: Vetting Privacy Policies of Virtual Reality Apps

Virtual reality (VR) apps can harvest a wider range of user data than web/mobile apps running on personal computers or smartphones. Existing law and privacy regulations emphasize that VR developers should inform users of what data are collected/used/shared (CUS) through privacy policies. However, privacy policies in the VR ecosystem are still in their early stages, and many developers fail to write appropriate privacy policies that comply with regulations and meet user expectations. In this paper, we propose VPVet to automatically vet privacy policy compliance issues for VR apps. VPVet first analyzes the availability and completeness of a VR privacy policy and then refines its analysis based on three key criteria: granularity, minimization, and consistency of CUS statements. Our study establishes the first and currently largest VR privacy policy dataset named VRPP, consisting of privacy policies of 11,923 different VR apps from 10 mainstream platforms. Our vetting results reveal severe privacy issues within the VR ecosystem, including the limited availability and poor quality of privacy policies, along with their coarse granularity, lack of adaptation to VR traits and the inconsistency between CUS statements in privacy policies and their actual behaviors. We open-source VPVet system along with our findings at repository https://github.com/kalamoo/PPAudit, aiming to raise awareness within the VR community and pave the way for further research in this field.

Voltran: Unlocking Trust and Confidentiality in Decentralized Federated Learning Aggregation

The decentralized Federated Learning (FL) paradigm built upon blockchain architectures leverages distributed node clusters to replace the single server for executing FL model aggregation. This paradigm tackles the vulnerability of the centralized malicious server in vanilla FL and inherits the trustfulness and robustness offered by blockchain. However, existing blockchain-enabled schemes face challenges related to inadequate confidentiality on models and limited computational resources of blockchains to perform large-scale FL computations. In this paper, we present Voltran, an innovative hybrid platform designed to achieve trust, confidentiality, and robustness for FL based on the combination of the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and blockchain technology. We offload the FL aggregation computation into TEE to provide an isolated, trusted and customizable off-chain execution, and then guarantee the authenticity and verifiability of aggregation results on the blockchain. Moreover, we provide strong scalability on multiple FL scenarios by introducing a multi-SGX parallel execution strategy to amortize the large-scale FL workload. We implement a prototype of Voltran and conduct a comprehensive performance evaluation. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that Voltran incurs minimal additional overhead while guaranteeing trust, confidentiality, and authenticity, and it significantly brings a significant speed-up compared to state-of-the-art ciphertext aggregation schemes.
