Integrability of Dirac equations in static spherical space-times

We consider the Dirac equations in static spherically-symmetric space-times, and we present a type of spinor field whose structure allows the separation of elevation angle and radial coordinate in very general situations. We demonstrate that after such a separation of variables the Dirac equations reduce to two equations that can always be integrated, at least in principle. To prove that ours is a fully-working method, we find an explicit exact solution in the special case of the de Sitter universe.

General Spin Sums in Quantum Field Theory

In Quantum Field Theory, scattering amplitudes are computed from propagators which, for internal lines, are built upon spin/polarization-sum relationships. In turn, these are normally constructed upon plane-wave solutions of the free field equations. A question that may now arise is whether such spin/polarization-sums can be generalized. In the past, there has been a first attempt at generalizing spin sums for fermionic fields in terms of the Michel-Wightman identities. In this paper, we aim to find the most general spin sums for fermionic fields within the range of QFT.

Dirac hydrodynamics in 19 forms

We consider the relativistic spinor field theory re-formulated in polar variables so to allow for the interpretation given in terms of fluid variables. After that the dynamics of spinor fields is converted as dynamics of a special type of spin fluid, we demonstrate that such conversion into dynamical spin fluid is not unique but it can be obtained through $19$ different rearrangements, by explicitly showing the $19$ minimal systems of hydrodynamic equations that are equivalent to the Dirac equations.

de Broglie-Bohm formulation of Dirac fields

We present the theory of Dirac spinors in the formulation given by Bohm on the idea of de Broglie: the quantum relativistic matter field is equivalently re-written as a special type of classical fluid and in this formulation it is shown how a relativistic environment can host the non-local aspects of the above-mentioned hidden-variables theory. Sketches for extensions are given at last.

Dirac Theory in Hydrodynamic Form

We consider quantum mechanics written in hydrodynamic formulation for the case of relativistic spinor fields to study their velocity: within such a hydrodynamic formulation it is possible to see that the velocity as is usually defined can not actually represent the tangent vector to the trajectories of particles. We propose an alternative definition for this tangent vector and hence for the trajectories of particles, which we believe to be new and in fact the only one that is possible. Finally we discuss how these results are a necessary step to take in order to face further problems, like the definition of trajectories for the multi-particle systems.

Propagators Beyond The Standard Model

In this paper, we explore the field propagator with a structure that is general enough to encompass both the case of newly-defined mass-dimension $1$ fermions and spin-$1/2$ bosons. The method we employ is to define a map between spinors of different Lounesto classes, and then write the propagator in terms of the corresponding dual structures.

Accurate determination of band tail properties in amorphous semiconductor thin film with Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy

Amorphous oxide semiconductors are receiving significant attention due to their relevance for large area electronics. Their disordered microscopic structure causes the formation of band tails in the density of states (DOS) that strongly affect charge transport properties. Bandtail properties are crucial to understand for optimizing thin film device performance. Among the available techniques to measure the DOS, KPFM is exceptional as it enables precise local electronic investigations combined with microscopic imaging. However, a model to interpret KPFM spectroscopy data on amorphous semiconductors of finite thickness is lacking. To address this issue, we provide an analytical solution to the Poisson's equation for a metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) junction interacting with the AFM tip. The solution enables us to fit experimental data for semiconductors with finite thickness and obtain the DOS parameters, such as band tail width (E_t), doping density (N_D), and flat band potential. To demonstrate our method, we perform KPFM experiments on Indium-Gallium-Zinc Oxide (IGZO) thin film transistors (IGZO-TFTs). DOS parameters compare well to values obtained with photocurrent spectroscopy. We demonstrate the potentials of the developed method by investigating the impact of ionizing radiation on DOS parameters and TFT performance. Our results provide clear evidence that the observed shift in threshold voltage is caused by static charge in the gate dielectric leading to a shift in flat band potential. Band-tails and doping density are not affected by the radiation. The developed methodology can be easily translated to different semiconductor materials and paves the way towards quantitative microscopic mapping of local DOS parameters in thin film devices.

Torsionally-Induced Stability in Spinors

We consider the role of the torsion axial-vector played in the dynamics of the Dirac spinor fields: we show that the torsional correction entails effects that render regular the otherwise singular spinorial matter field distribution. Comments about consequences for physics are given.

Necessity of Tensorial Connections for Spinorial Systems

We consider spinorial fields in polar form to deduce their respective tensorial connection in various physical situations: we show that in some cases the tensorial connection is a useful tool, instead in other cases it arises as a necessary object. The comparative analysis of the different cases possessing a tensorial connection is done, investigating the analogies between space-time structures. Eventual comments on quantum field theory and specific spinors are given.

Exploiting new classes of mass-dimension one fermions

In this paper, we advance in investigating a specific set of eigenvectors of a linearly-independent square root of the identity matrix to obtain a new class of spin-half mass-dimension one fermions. Such eigenvectors, after an appropriated dual structure examination, may serve as expansion coefficients of a local field.

Relativistic dynamical inversion in manifestly covariant form

The Relativistic Dynamical Inversion technique, a novel tool for finding analytical solutions to the Dirac equation, is written in explicitly covariant form. It is then shown how the technique can be used to make a change from Cartesian to spherical coordinates of a given Dirac spinor. Moreover the most remarkable feature of the new method, which is the ease of performing non-trivial change of reference frames, is demonstrated. Such a feature constitutes a potentially powerful tool for finding novel solutions to the Dirac equation. Furthermore, a whole family of normalizable analytic solutions to the Dirac equation is constructed. More specifically, we find exact solutions for the case of a Dirac electron in the presence of a magnetic field as well as a novel solution comprising of a combination of a spherically symmetric electric field and magnetic fields. These solutions shed light on the possibility of separating the positive and negative energy parts of localized Dirac spinors in the presence as well as in the absence of magnetic fields. The presented solutions provide an illustration of the connection between the geometrical properties of the spinor and spin-orbit coupling for normalizable spinorial wave functions.

Goldstone states as non-local hidden variables

We consider the theory of spinor fields in polar form where the spinorial true degrees of freedom are isolated from their Goldstone states, and we show that these carry information about the frames which is not related to gravitation so that their propagation is not restricted to be either causal or local: we use them to build a model of entangled spins where a singlet possesses a uniform rotation that can be made to collapse for both states simultaneously regardless their spatial distance. Models of entangled polarizations with similar properties are also sketched. An analogy with the double-slit experiment is also presented. General comments on features of Goldstone states are given.

Fundamental Theory of Torsion Gravity

In this work we present the general differential geometry of a background in which the space-time has both torsion and curvature with internal symmetries being described by gauge fields, and that is equipped to couple spinorial matter fields having spin and energy as well as gauge currents: torsion will turn out to be equivalent to an axial-vector massive Proca field and because the spinor can be decomposed in its two chiral projections, torsion can be thought as the mediator that keeps spinors in stable configurations; we will justify this claim by studying some limiting situations. We will then proceed with a second chapter, where the material presented in the first chapter will be applied to specific systems in order to solve problems that seems to affect theories without torsion: hence the problem of gravitational singularity formation and positivity of the energy are the most important, and they will also lead the way for a discussion about the Pauli exclusion principle and the concept of macroscopic approximation. In a third and final chapter we are going to investigate in the light of torsion dynamics some of the open problems in the standard models of particles and cosmology which would not be easily solvable otherwise.

Symmetry Breaking of Universal type and Particular types

The concepts of symmetry and its breakdown are investigated in two different terms according to whether the resulting asymmetry is universal or only obtained for a special configuration: we shall illustrate this by considering in the first case an example from the standard model of particles with some consequences for cosmological scenarios related to inflation and the problem of the cosmological constant, and in the second case we consider an example from specific solutions for particle dynamics and an example for a toy model of entangled spins.

A note on singularity avoidance in fourth-order gravity

We consider the fourth-order differential theory of gravitation to treat the problem of singularity avoidance: studying the short-distance behaviour in the case of black-holes and the big-bang we are going to see a way to attack the issue from a general perspective.

Weyl and Majorana Spinors as Pure Goldstone Bosons

General spinors in polar form display a structure that is made up by real scalar degrees of freedom plus six components which can be recognized as Goldstone bosons: in the present paper we show that of all singular spinors, Weyl and Majorana spinors have no real degree of freedom and so that they can be interpreted as pure Goldstone states.

Spinor fields in $f(\mathcal{Q})$-gravity

We present a tetrad-affine approach to $f(\mathcal{Q})$ gravity coupled to spinor fields of spin-1/2. After deriving the field equations, we derive the conservation law of the spin density, showing that the latter ensures the vanishing of the antisymmetric part of the Einstein-like equations, just as it happens in theories with torsion and metricity. We then focus on Bianchi type-I cosmological models proposing a general procedure to solve the corresponding field equations and providing analytical solutions in the case of gravitational Lagrangian functions of the kind $f(\mathcal{Q})=α\mathcal{Q}^n$. At late time such solutions are seen to isotropize and, depending on the value of the exponent $n$, they can undergo an accelerated expansion of the spatial scale factors.
