Kinematic Analysis Towards Glueballs

In the present work a consistent kinematic-based framework for glueball states is proposed. It relates the glueball, the Pomeron, QCD lattice calculations, the $0^{++}$ scalar states $f_0(1710)$ and $χ_{c0}(1P)$, the $2^{++}$ states $f_J(2220)$ and $χ_{c2}(2P)$, the baryonic charmed state $Ξ_c^+(2645)$.

On the QCD Evolution of Transverse Momentum Dependent Distributions

We reconsider the evolution equations for transverse momentum dependent distributions recently proposed by us and recast them in a form which allows the comparison with results recently appeared in the literature. We show under which conditions the obtained results might be consistent with each other.

Fermion Scattering in a Gravitational Background: Electroweak Corrections and Flavour Transitions

We investigate the role of the electroweak corrections to the scattering cross section of Standard Model fermions with gravity. We use both an approach of scattering off an external potential, where the gravitational field is treated as a classical background generated by a heavy source, and the usual interaction based on the one-graviton-exchange. In the potential appoach we consider the fields both of a localized and of a distributed gravitational source of spherical symmetry and uniform density, separating the cases of interactions taking place both in the inner and external regions of the source. This allows to make a distinction between interactions involving neutrinos and dark matter particles with a realistic gravity source, which cover the inner region, and the rest of the Standard model fermions. The role of the gravitationally induced flavour-changing transitions, as well as the flavour diagonal ones, are investigated in the limit of both large and small momentum transfers, deriving the structure of the corresponding Hamiltonian.

Mass Corrections to Flavor-Changing Fermion-Graviton Vertices in the Standard Model

In a previous study, the flavor-changing fermion-graviton interactions have been analyzed in the framework of the standard model, where analytical results for the relevant form factors were obtained at the leading order in the external fermion masses. These interactions arise at one-loop level by the charged electroweak corrections to the fermion-graviton vertex, when the off-diagonal flavor transitions in the corresponding charged weak currents are taken into account. Due to the conservation of the energy-momentum tensor, the corresponding form factors turn out to be finite and gauge invariant when external fermions are on-shell. Here we extend this previous analysis by including the exact dependence on the external fermion masses. Complete analytical results are provided for all the relevant form factors to the flavor-changing fermion-graviton transitions.

One loop Standard Model corrections to flavor diagonal fermion-graviton vertices

We extend a previous analysis of flavor-changing fermion-graviton vertices, by adding the one-loop SM corrections to the flavor diagonal fermion-graviton interactions. Explicit analytical expressions taking into account fermion masses for the on-shell form factors are computed and presented. The infrared safety of the fermion-graviton vertices against radiative corrections of soft photons and gluons is proved, by extending the ordinary infrared cancellation mechanism between real and virtual emissions to the gravity case. These results can be easily generalized to fermion couplings with massive gravitons, graviscalar, and dilaton fields, with potential phenomenological implications to new physics scenarios with low gravity scale.

Minimal prescription corrected spectra in heavy quark decays

The Minimal Prescription procedure is applied to tame the Landau pole singularities of resummed formulae for heavy quark decays. Effects of the final quark mass are taken into account. Explicit expressions are obtained for the t->b and b->c transitions for both the frozen coupling approximation and in the QCD running coupling case.

Comment on Resummation of Mass Distribution for Jets Initiated by Massive Quarks

We compute in the heavy quark effective theory the soft coefficient D_2 entering the resummation of next-to-next-to-leading threshold logarithms for jets initiated by a quark with a small mass compared to the hard scale of the process. We find complete agreement with a previous computation in full QCD. Contrary to our previous guess, this coefficient turns out to be different from that one entering heavy flavor decay or heavy flavor fragmentation.

NLO Semi-inclusive Drell-Yan cross-section in Quantum ChromoDynamics as a Factorization Analyzer

We evaluate in perturbative QCD the semi-inclusive Drell-Yan cross-section for the production of a single hadron accompaining the lepton pair. We demonstrate to one loop level a collinear factorization formula within the fracture functions approach. We propose such a process as a factorization analyzer in hadronic collisions. Phenomenological implications at the hadron colliders are briefly discussed.

Resummed Mass Distribution for Jets Initiated by Massive Quarks

We resum the invariant mass distribution of jets initiated by massive quarks in next-to-leading logarithmic approximation and beyond in heuristic way. We find that the inclusion of mass terms, in the N-moment space, results in the universal factor delta_N(Q^2;m^2), taking into account dead-cone effects and soft radiation characteristic of massive charges. This factor multiplies the massless jet distribution function J_N(Q^2). The variable N is rescaled by the mass correction parameter r = m^2/Q^2 << 1 with respect to the standard massless case, being m the quark mass and Q the hard scale. The functions A(alpha_S) and B(alpha_S), appear with a minus sign suppressing collinear effects at large N, as expected. In the same region, soft radiation not collinearly enhanced, characteristic of massive charges, makes its appearance with the function D(alpha_S). Phenomenological applications, such as the resummation of b --> c l nu decay spectra or the inclusion of beauty mass effects in t --> b W decays, are briefly sketched.

Threshold Resummation in B --> X_c l nu_l Decays

We compute the QCD form factor resumming threshold logarithms in B --> X_c + l + nu_l decays to next-to-leading logarithmic approximation. We present an interpolation formula including soft as well as collinear effects softened by the non-vanishing charm mass.

Light Mesons and Muon Radiative Decays and Photon Polarization Asymmetry

We systematically compute and discuss meson and muon polarized radiative decays. Doubly differential distributions in terms of momenta and helicities of the final lepton and photon are explicitly computed. The undergoing dynamics giving rise to lepton and photon polarizations is examined and analyzed in the soft and hard region of momenta. The particular configurations made by right-handed leptons with accompanying photons are investigated and interpreted as a manifestation of the axial anomaly. The photon polarization asymmetry is evaluated. Finiteness of polarized amplitudes against infrared and collinear singularities is shown to take place with mechanisms distinguishing between right handed and left handed final leptons. We propose a possible test using photon polarization to clarify a recently observed discrepancy in radiative meson decays.

An application of transverse-momentum-dependent evolution equations in QCD

The properties and behaviour of the solutions of the recently obtained $k_t$-dependent evolution equations are investigated. When used to reproduce transverse momentum spectra of hadrons in Semi-Inclusive DIS, an encouraging agreement with data is found. The present analysis also supports at the phenomenological level the factorization properties of the Semi-Inclusive DIS cross-sections in terms of $k_t$-dependent distributions. Further improvements and possible developments of the proposed evolution equations are envisaged.

A New Fracture Function Approach to QCD Initial State Radiation

Ordinary fracture functions, describing hadrons production in the deep inelastic scattering target fragmentation region, are generalized to account for the production of hadrons in arbitrary number, thus offering a renewed framework for dealing with QCD initial state radiation. We also propose a new jet-like observable which measures beam remnants and low-$p_{\perp}$ scattering fragments and derive its QCD evolution equations by using Jet Calculus. Possible implications for semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and hadron-hadron reactions are shortly discussed.

Measuring the Running of the Electromagnetic Coupling Alpha in Small Angle Bhabha Scattering

We propose a method to determine the running of $α_{QED}$ from the measurement of small-angle Bhabha scattering. The method is suited to high statistics experiments at $e^{+} e^{-}$ colliders, which are equipped with luminometers in the appropriate angular region. We present a new simulation code predicting small-angle Bhabha scattering. A detailed description of this idea can be found in A.B. Arbuzov, D. Haidt, C. Matteuzzi, M. Paganoni and L. Trentadue, The running of the electromagnetic coupling alpha in small-angle Bhabha scattering, Eur. Phys. J. C34, 267 (2004).

Transverse Momentum in Semi-inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering

Within the framework of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics we derive transverse momentum dependent distributions describing both current and target fragmentation in semi-inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering. We present, to leading logarithmic accuracy, the corresponding crosssections describing final state hadrons on the whole phase space. Phenomenological implications and further developments are briefly discussed.

Testing CP Conservation at KLOE

A proposal for maintaining CP conservation in $K_{L}^{0}$ decays is resumed, by adding a heterodox hypothesis. One recovers a consistent picture with a $2π$ $K_{L}^{0}$ decay branching ratio proportional to the vertical $K_{L}^{0}$ displacement. This can be clearly tested at the KLOE experiment, where important vertical $K_{L}^{0}$ displacements occur.

Axial Anomaly Effects in Pion and $Z^0$ Radiative Decays

We discuss a connection between axial anomaly and polarized radiative processes. By comparison with the corresponding unpolarized cases, we consider some physical outputs for the $π^+$ and $Z^0$ polarized radiative decays. We analyse in detail the pattern of mass singularity cancellation.

Axial Anomaly and Polarized Radiative Decays

We extend the approach of Dolgov and Zakharov to the axial anomaly to study polarized radiative decays. We analyse the pattern of mass singularity cancellation in the corresponding decay rates. We compare polarized and unpolarized cases. The cancellation of the infrared and collinear singularities is verified to all powers of the lepton mass for the $π^+$ and $Z^0$ polarized radiative decays.
