Analytical solution for QCD $\otimes$ QED evolution

We present an analytical solution for the evolution of parton distributions incorporating mixed-order QCD $\otimes$ QED corrections, addressing both polarized and unpolarized cases. Using the Altarelli-Parisi kernels extended to mixed order, we solve the DGLAP equations exactly in Mellin $N$-space and derive the associated Wilson coefficients for the polarized structure function $g_1$. Our analytical approach improves computational efficiency and enhances the precision of theoretical predictions in observables sensitive to QED corrections, with relevance for current and future phenomenological applications.

The polarized photon distribution function

We employ the LuxQED approach to compute the polarized photon PDF (photon pPDF). This approach expresses the pPDF in terms of the structure functions $g_1$ and $g_2$. Different models for the structure functions are employed according to the parameter space region. The resulting pPDF is approximately of the order of $x$ times the unpolarized PDF. The relative uncertainty in the photon pPDF reaches up to $50\%$ for $x \sim 10^{-3}$, decreasing to approximately $10\%$ for higher values of $x$. The computation of the photon pPDF will be essential for improving the precision of polarized calculations and will have fundamental implications for studies at the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC).

QED corrections to parton distributions and Altarelli-Parisi splitting functions in the polarized case

We discuss the effect of QED corrections in the evolution of polarized parton distributions. We solve the corresponding evolution equations exactly to ${\cal O}(α)$ and ${\cal O}(α_s^2)$ in Mellin $N$-space, extending the available techniques for pure QCD evolution. To accomplish this, we introduce, for the first time, the Altarelli-Parisi polarized kernels at LO in QED. Furthermore, we perform a phenomenological analysis of the QED effects on polarized parton distributions (pPDFs), proposing different scenarios for the polarized photon density. Finally, we quantify the impact of the corresponding QED contributions to the polarized structure function $g_1$. We show that the relative corrections to both the pPDFs and the $g_1$ structure function are approximately at the few percent level, which is the order of magnitude expected considering the value of $α$.
