Selectivity on division algebras

A commutative order in a central simple algebra over a number field is said to be selective if it embeds in some, but not all, the maximal orders in the algebra. We completely characterize selective orders in central division algebras, of dimension 9 or greater, in terms of the characterization of selective orders given by Chindburg and Friedman in the quaternionic case.

Spinor class field for generalized Eichler orders

We compute the spinor class field for a genus of orders, in a central simple algebra of higher dimension, that are intersections of two maximal orders. In particular, we compute the number of spinor genera in a genus of such orders, as the degree of an explicit extension of class fields.

Representation field for orders of small ranks

A representation field for a non-maximal order H in a central simple algebra A is a subfield of the spinor class field of maximal orders which determines the set of spinor genera of maximal orders representing H. In our previous work we have proved the existence of the representation field for several important families of suborders, like commutative orders, while we have also found examples where the representation field fails to exist. In this article, we prove that the representation field is defined for any order H of rank 7 or lower. The same technique yields the existence of representation fields for any order in an algebra whose semi-simple reduction is commutative. We also construct a rank-8 order whose representation field is not defined.

Computing quaternion quotient graphs via representation of orders

We study the correspondence assigning the vertices of a certain quotient of the local Bruhat-Tits tree for the general linear group over a global function field, to conjugacy classes of maximal orders in some quaternion algebras. The interplay between quotient graphs and orders can be used to study representation of orders if the quotient graphs are known and conversely. We use this converse to find a reciprocity law between quotient graph at diferent places that suffices to compute, recursively, all local quotient graphs for a matrix algebra over a rational function field.

Eichler orders, trees and Representation Fields

If H and D are two orders in a central simple algebra A with D of maximal rank, the representation field F(D|H) is a subfield of the spinor class field of the genus of D which determines the set of spinor genera of orders in that genus representing the order H. Previous work have focused on two cases, maximal orders D and commutative orders H. In this work, we show how to compute the representation field F(D|H) when D is the intersection of a finite family of maximal orders, e.g., an Eichler order, and H is arbitrary. Examples are provided.

Maximal selectivity for orders in fields

If H and D are two orders in a central simple algebra A with D of maximal rank and containing H, the theory of representation fields describes the set of spinor genera of orders in the genus of D representing the order H. When H is contained in a maximal subfield of A and the dimension of A is the square of a prime p, the proportion of spinor genera representing H has the form r/p, in fact, when the representation field exists, this proportion is either 1 or 1/p. In the later case the order H is said to be selective for the genus. The condition for selectivity is known when D is maximal and also when p = 2 and D is an Eichler order. In this work we describe the orders H that are selective for at least one genus of orders of maximal rank in A.

Spinor class fields for sheaves of lattices

We extend the theory of spinor class field and representation fields previously defined for lattices over the ring of integers of a number field to both, lattices over the coordinate ring of a smooth irreducible affine curve over a finite field, and sheaves of lattices over the structure sheaf of an irreducible smooth projective curve over a finite field.

Representation fields for commutative orders

A representation field for a non-maximal order $\Ha$ in a central simple algebra is a subfield of the spinor class field of maximal orders which determines the set of spinor genera of maximal orders containing a copy of $\Ha$. Not every non-maximal order has a representation field. In this work we prove that every commutative order has a representation field and give a formula for it. The main result is proved for central simple algebras over arbitrary global fields.

Lattices and Cohomology

We give an interpretation of the cohomology of an arithmetically defined group as a set of equivalence classes of lattices. We use this interpretation to give a simpler proof of the connection established by J. Rohlfs between genus and cohomology.

Notes on Cohomology

This work is a collection of old and new aplications of Galois cohomology to the clasification of algebraic and arithmetical objects.
