Complex-valued modified Zakharov Kuznetsov equation

Motivated by the introduction of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation as a higher dimensional generalization of the Korteweg-de Vries equation, in this paper we introduce the modified Zakharov-Kuznetsov (mZK) equation as a 2-dimensional generalization of the complex-valued modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. We initiate the mathematical analysis of the mZK equation on $\mathbb{T}^2$ by proving a local well-posedness result in Sobolev spaces and by establishing a failure of uniform continuity. We also note that the real-valued version of the mZK equation has physical significance.

Inhomogeneous six-wave kinetic equation in exponentially weighted $L^\infty$ spaces

Six-wave interactions are used for modeling various physical systems, including in optical wave turbulence [16] (where a cascade of photons displays this kind of behavior) and in quantum wave turbulence [31] (for the interaction of Kelvin waves in superfluids). In this paper, we initiate the analysis of the Cauchy problem for the spatially inhomogeneous six-wave kinetic equation. More precisely, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of non-negative mild solutions to this equation in exponentially weighted $L^\infty_{xv}$ spaces. This is accompanied by an analysis of the long-time behavior of such solutions - we prove that the solutions scatter, that is, they converge to solutions of the transport equation in the limit as $t \to \pm \infty$. Compared with the study of four-wave kinetic equations, the main challenge we face is to address the increased complexity of the geometry of the six-wave interactions.

On the Diophantine equations of the form $λ_1U_{n_1} + λ_2U_{n_2} +\ldots + λ_kU_{n_k} = wp_1^{z_1}p_2^{z_2} \cdots p_s^{z_s}$

In this paper, we consider the Diophantine equation $λ_1U_{n_1}+\ldots+λ_kU_{n_k}=wp_1^{z_1} \cdots p_s^{z_s},$ where $\{U_n\}_{n\geq 0}$ is a fixed non-degenerate linear recurrence sequence of order greater than or equal to 2; $w$ is a fixed non-zero integer; $p_1,\dots,p_s$ are fixed, distinct prime numbers; $λ_1,\dots,λ_k$ are strictly positive integers; and $n_1,\dots,n_k,z_1,\dots,z_s$ are non-negative integer unknowns. We prove the existence of an effectively computable upper-bound on the solutions $(n_1,\dots,n_k,z_1,\dots,z_s)$. In our proof, we use lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms, extending the work of Pink and Ziegler (2016), Mazumdar and Rout (2019), Meher and Rout (2017), and Ziegler (2019).

Simulation of electron-proton scattering events by a Feature-Augmented and Transformed Generative Adversarial Network (FAT-GAN)

We apply generative adversarial network (GAN) technology to build an event generator that simulates particle production in electron-proton scattering that is free of theoretical assumptions about underlying particle dynamics. The difficulty of efficiently training a GAN event simulator lies in learning the complicated patterns of the distributions of the particles physical properties. We develop a GAN that selects a set of transformed features from particle momenta that can be generated easily by the generator, and uses these to produce a set of augmented features that improve the sensitivity of the discriminator. The new Feature-Augmented and Transformed GAN (FAT-GAN) is able to faithfully reproduce the distribution of final state electron momenta in inclusive electron scattering, without the need for input derived from domain-based theoretical assumptions. The developed technology can play a significant role in boosting the science of existing and future accelerator facilities, such as the Electron-Ion Collider.
