Spin-lattice coupling enables adaptive adsorption in magnetically-driven electrocatalysts

A major challenge in electrochemistry is to decouple the reactive intermediates of a catalytic cycle to optimise their energies independently. During the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), such energy interdependence results from the need to generate multiple adsorbates at the same site and sets the minimum overpotential. Here, we show that an external stimulus, such as a magnetic field, can relax the scaling relationships between intermediates during the OER. Spectroscopic measurements and Density Functional Theory simulations in Ni-Fe oxyhydroxides reveal that applying a magnetic field alters surface chemisorption and injects structural flexibility at the interface. We interpret these observations as a consequence of stimulated changes in the spin-lattice coupling, which allow access to quasi-degenerate oxygenated intermediates that modulate the reaction energy demands. Our findings redefine the scaling limitations as state-projected rather than intrinsic and establish external stimulation as a strategy to navigate multi-state energy landscapes in electrocatalysis and sensing applications.

Ir3Ge20: A 3n-Connected Cloverleaf-Shaped Supercluster

Group 14 Zintl clusters are promising molecular building blocks for nanoscale architecture. Endohedral variants, which encapsulate d/f-block metals within p-block semimetal cages, provide insights into intermetallic bonding and compound formation. In this study, experimental photoelectron spectroscopy and first-principles calculations were used to investigate the Ir-doped germanium cluster species. A new C2v symmetric building block, IrGe12, was identified, serving as the basis for designing the supercluster Ir3Ge20 with a cloverleaf-shaped, D3h symmetric architecture. This structure consists of three interconnected aromatic IrGe12 units linked by Ge-Ge sigma bonds, forming shielding cones. Ir3Ge20 follows the 5n rule with 100 valence electrons, featuring a core-Ir3 unit with a d10 closed-shell configuration sharing electrons with the Ge20 skeleton. The stability, chemical bonding, and aromaticity of Ir3Ge20 were confirmed, demonstrating a novel approach to precise atom manipulation in cluster-based materials and devices.

Giant octupole moment in magnetic multilayers

Multipole moments serve as order parameters for characterizing higher-order magnetic effects in momentum space, providing a framework to describe diverse magnetic responses by extending the concept of magnetism. In this letter, we introduce a methodology to quantitatively determine the multipole moment contributions in anomalous Hall effect through angle-dependent anomalous Hall current, with explicit incorporation of discrete crystal symmetries. Our technique uniquely enables the investigation of octupole contribution in non-periodic systems, particularly at interfaces and surfaces. Typically, in (Ag$_{2}$Fe$_{5}$)$_{n}$ multilayers with quantum-well-engineered $k$-point selectivity, we observe an octupole-dominated anomalous Hall effect in conventional ferromagnetic materials, through first-principles calculations. These results fundamentally challenge the existing theoretical understanding of the anomalous Hall effect, showing that even the conventional contribution arises not only from the dipole moment (net magnetization). Furthermore, we establish practical control over the octupole contribution through two distinct approaches: interface engineering and magnetic ordering reconfiguration, opening new possibilities for manipulating higher-order transport effects.

On the angular dependence of anomalous Hall current

The transverse current (j_H) due to anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is usually assumed to be perpendicular to the magnetization (m) in ferromagnetic materials, which governs the experiments in spintronics. Generally, this assumption is derived from a continuum model, where the crystal's discrete symmetry is effectively represented by the concept of an effective mass from the band structure. In this paper, we calculate the spin transport through the nonmagnetic metal (NM) | ferromagnetic metal (FM) interfaces and find that the corresponding Hall current is generally not perpendicular to m with only a few exceptions at high symmetry crystal orientations. The calculation illustrates the breakdown of j_H={\theta}m{\times}j_c, where {\theta} denotes the anomalous Hall angle and j_c represents the injecting charge current. An analytical formula based on the discrete symmetry of the solid can describe this effect well. In this framework, the leading order corresponds to the conventional AHE, while higher-order terms account for deviations in the Hall current. Additionally, we identify the presence of a chiral anomalous Hall effect (CAHE) at interface with odd rotational symmetry (e.g., C_{3v}) and the higher-order terms can even dominate the AHE by constructing superlattices. The general existence of hidden chirality in spin transport is also revealed, with a specific focus on interface chirality (IC). Our results highlight the significance of discrete atomic positions in solids for spin transport, which extends beyond the conventional continuum model. Moreover, considering the important application of the AHE in spintronics and the wide existence of the interfaces in the devices, the breakdown of j_H={\theta}m{\times}j_c suggests that all experimental measurements related to the AHE should be re-evaluated.

Automated Review Generation Method Based on Large Language Models

Literature research, vital for scientific work, faces the challenge of surging information volumes exceeding researchers' processing capabilities. We present an automated review generation method based on large language models (LLMs) to overcome efficiency bottlenecks and reduce cognitive load. Our statistically validated evaluation framework demonstrates that the generated reviews match or exceed manual quality, offering broad applicability across research fields without requiring users' domain knowledge. Applied to propane dehydrogenation (PDH) catalysts, our method swiftly analyzed 343 articles, averaging seconds per article per LLM account, producing comprehensive reviews spanning 35 topics, with extended analysis of 1041 articles providing insights into catalysts' properties. Through multi-layered quality control, we effectively mitigated LLMs' hallucinations, with expert verification confirming accuracy and citation integrity while demonstrating hallucination risks reduced to below 0.5\% with 95\% confidence. Released Windows application enables one-click review generation, enhancing research productivity and literature recommendation efficiency while setting the stage for broader scientific explorations.

Real-time Estimation of DoS Duration and Frequency for Security Control

In this paper, we develop a new denial-of-service (DoS) estimator, enabling defenders to identify duration and frequency parameters of any DoS attacker, except for three edge cases, exclusively using real-time data. The key advantage of the estimator lies in its capability to facilitate security control in a wide range of practical scenarios, even when the attacker's information is previously unknown. We demonstrate the advantage and application of our new estimator in the context of two classical control scenarios, namely consensus of multi-agent systems and impulsive stabilization of nonlinear systems, for illustration.

Multi-Agent Broad Reinforcement Learning for Intelligent Traffic Light Control

Intelligent Traffic Light Control System (ITLCS) is a typical Multi-Agent System (MAS), which comprises multiple roads and traffic lights.Constructing a model of MAS for ITLCS is the basis to alleviate traffic congestion. Existing approaches of MAS are largely based on Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (MADRL). Although the Deep Neural Network (DNN) of MABRL is effective, the training time is long, and the parameters are difficult to trace. Recently, Broad Learning Systems (BLS) provided a selective way for learning in the deep neural networks by a flat network. Moreover, Broad Reinforcement Learning (BRL) extends BLS in Single Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (SADRL) problem with promising results. However, BRL does not focus on the intricate structures and interaction of agents. Motivated by the feature of MADRL and the issue of BRL, we propose a Multi-Agent Broad Reinforcement Learning (MABRL) framework to explore the function of BLS in MAS. Firstly, unlike most existing MADRL approaches, which use a series of deep neural networks structures, we model each agent with broad networks. Then, we introduce a dynamic self-cycling interaction mechanism to confirm the "3W" information: When to interact, Which agents need to consider, What information to transmit. Finally, we do the experiments based on the intelligent traffic light control scenario. We compare the MABRL approach with six different approaches, and experimental results on three datasets verify the effectiveness of MABRL.

Coalescence for supercritical Galton-Watson processes with immigration

In this paper, we consider Galton-Watson processes with immigration. Pick $i(\ge2)$ individuals randomly without replacement from the $n$-th generation and trace their lines of descent back in time till they coalesce into $1$ individual in a certain generation, which we denote by $X_{i,1}^n$ and is called the coalescence time. Firstly, we give the probability distribution of $X_{i,1}^n$ in terms of the probability generating functions of both the offspring distribution and the immigration law. Then by studying the limit behaviors of various functionals of the Galton-Watson process with immigration, we find the limit distribution of $X_{2,1}^n$ as $n\rightarrow\infty.$

Microscopic and self-consistent description for neutron halo in deformed nuclei

A deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum has been developed for the study of neutron halos in deformed nuclei and the halo phenomenon in deformed weakly bound nuclei is investigated. Magnesium and neon isotopes are studied and some results are presented for the deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nuclei 44Mg and 36Ne. The core of the former nucleus is prolate, but the halo has a slightly oblate shape. This indicates a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core. The generic conditions for the existence of halos in deformed nuclei and for the occurrence of this decoupling effect are discussed.

Halos in a deformed Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum

In this contribution we present some recent results about neutron halos in deformed nuclei. A deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum has been developed and the halo phenomenon in deformed weakly bound nuclei is investigated. These weakly bound quantum systems present interesting examples for the study of the interdependence between the deformation of the core and the particles in the halo. Magnesium and neon isotopes are studied and detailed results are presented for the deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nuclei 42Mg. The core of this nucleus is prolate, but the halo has a slightly oblate shape. This indicates a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core. The generic conditions for the existence of halos in deformed nuclei and for the occurrence of this decoupling effect are discussed.

Density-dependent deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum

The deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum with the density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings is developed. The formulism is briefly presented with the emphasis on handling the density-dependent couplings, meson fields, and potentials in axially deformed system with partial wave method. Taking the neutron-rich nucleus $^{38}$Mg as an example, the newly developed code is verified by the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov calculations, where only the spherical components of the densities are considered. When the deformation is included self-consistently, it is shown that the spherical components of density-dependent coupling strengths are dominant, while the contributions from low-order deformed components are not negligible.

Odd systems in deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum

In order to describe the exotic nuclear structure in unstable odd-$A$ or odd-odd nuclei, the deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum has been extended to incorporate the blocking effect due to the odd nucleon. For a microscopic and self-consistent description of pairing correlations, continuum, deformation, blocking effects, and the extended spatial density distribution in exotic nuclei, the deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov equations are solved in a Woods-Saxon basis in which the radial wave functions have a proper asymptotic behavior at large $r$. The formalism and numerical details are provided. The code is checked by comparing the results with those of spherical relativistic continuum Hartree Bogoliubov theory in the nucleus $^{19}$O. The prolate deformed nucleus $^{15}$C is studied by examining the neutron levels and density distributions.

Deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum

A deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov (RHB) theory in continuum is developed aiming at a proper description of exotic nuclei, particularly those with a large spatial extension. In order to give an adequate consideration of both the contribution of the continuum and the large spatial distribution in exotic nuclei, the deformed RHB equations are solved in a Woods-Saxon (WS) basis in which the radial wave functions have a proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. This is crucial for the proper description of a possible halo. The formalism of deformed RHB theory in continuum is presented. A stable nucleus, 20Mg and a weakly-bound nucleus, 42Mg, are taken as examples to present numerical details and to carry out necessary numerical checks. In addition, the ground state properties of even-even magnesium isotopes are investigated. The generic conditions of the formation of a halo in weakly bound deformed systems and the shape of the halo in deformed nuclei are discussed. We show that the existence and the deformation of a possible neutron halo depend essentially on the quantum numbers of the main components of the single particle orbitals in the vicinity of the Fermi surface.

Spin-orbit and orbit-orbit strengths for radioactive neutron-rich doubly magic nucleus $^{132}$Sn in relativistic mean field theory

Relativistic mean field (RMF) theory is applied to investigate the properties of the radioactive neutron-rich doubly magic nucleus $^{132}$Sn and the corresponding isotopes and isotones. The two-neutron and two-proton separation energies are well reproduced by the RMF theory. In particular, the RMF results agree with the experimental single-particle spectrum in $^{132}$Sn as well as the Nilsson spin-orbit parameter $C$ and orbit-orbit parameter $D$ thus extracted, but remarkably differ from the traditional Nilsson parameters. Furthermore, the present results provide a guideline for the isospin dependence of the Nilsson parameters.
