Giant nonlinear optical chirality in twisted heterobilayers

Twisting two dissimilar monolayer semiconductors induces structural chirality that remains largely elusive in linear optics but becomes remarkably pronounced in the nonlinear regime. Here we demonstrate that MoS2/WSe2 heterobilayers exhibit giant, twist-tunable nonlinear chirality in second-harmonic generation (SHG). The sign of SHG circular dichroism is governed by structural handedness, and its magnitude reaches 1.96 near a 30{\deg} twist angle under 1260-nm excitation, approaching the theoretical limit of 2. Furthermore, reversed chirality is observed when light is incident from opposite directions. Using a layer-resolved model, we attribute this phenomenon to helicity-dependent interference between the two monolayer SHG fields, mediated by a nonlinear Pancharatnam-Berry phase. These findings establish that the relative orientation of atomically thin layers can deterministically control nonlinear chiral responses, identifying twisted 2D heterostructures as a versatile platform for nonlinear chiral photonics, frequency conversion, and ultracompact light-matter interfaces.

Chiral superfluorescence from perovskite superlattices at room temperature

Superfluorescence (SF) is the collective emission of intense, coherent light from an interacting ensemble of quantum emitters1-4. While SF has been observed in several solid-state materials5-8, the spontaneous generation of circularly polarized SF from chiral materials (chiral SF) has not been realized9,10. Here, we report the first observation of chiral SF originating from edge states in large-area (>100 um * 100 um) vertically aligned chiral perovskite superlattices at room-temperature. Theoretical quantum optics calculations describe the transition from initially unpolarized, incoherent spontaneous emission to a coherent chiral SF state, quantitatively reproducing both the experimentally observed generation of circular polarization (up to ~14%) and its reversal in sign with opposite material handedness. Moreover, we show that both the intensity and the degree of circular polarization of chiral SF can be modulated by a weak magnetic field, enabling precise control over solid-state quantum light emission at room temperature. Our findings demonstrate an interplay between chirality and many-body quantum coherence, thereby revealing promising new directions for chirality-controlled quantum-optical applications.

"Ask Me Anything": How Comcast Uses LLMs to Assist Agents in Real Time

Customer service is how companies interface with their customers. It can contribute heavily towards the overall customer satisfaction. However, high-quality service can become expensive, creating an incentive to make it as cost efficient as possible and prompting most companies to utilize AI-powered assistants, or "chat bots". On the other hand, human-to-human interaction is still desired by customers, especially when it comes to complex scenarios such as disputes and sensitive topics like bill payment. This raises the bar for customer service agents. They need to accurately understand the customer's question or concern, identify a solution that is acceptable yet feasible (and within the company's policy), all while handling multiple conversations at once. In this work, we introduce "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) as an add-on feature to an agent-facing customer service interface. AMA allows agents to ask questions to a large language model (LLM) on demand, as they are handling customer conversations -- the LLM provides accurate responses in real-time, reducing the amount of context switching the agent needs. In our internal experiments, we find that agents using AMA versus a traditional search experience spend approximately 10% fewer seconds per conversation containing a search, translating to millions of dollars of savings annually. Agents that used the AMA feature provided positive feedback nearly 80% of the time, demonstrating its usefulness as an AI-assisted feature for customer care.

Universal high-frequency transport in perfect photonic crystals

The light scattering in the periodic dielectric cylinder array is studied. We analytically calculate the diffusive-ballistic transport crossover and find the weak localization superimposing on it. Possible experimental observations are analyzed.
