A spectral survey of the Star Forming Core of the Orion Nebula from 455 -- 507 GHz

The results of a submillimetre wavelength spectral line survey between 455.1 -- 507.4 GHz of the Orion-KL hot cloud core are reported. A total of 254 lines were detected to a main beam brightness temperature sensitivity ~ 1 - 3 K. The detected lines are identified as being associated with 30 different molecular species or their isotopomeric variants. The strongest line detected was the J = 4-3 transition of the CO molecule. Apart from abundant diatomic rotors such as CO and CS, the spectrum is dominated by SO, SO_2 and CH_3OH and large organic molecules such as (CH_3)_2O, CH$_3CN, C_2H_3CN, C_2H_5CN and HCOOCH_3 which make up ~ 72% of the total number of lines; unidentified lines ~ 13%; and other lines the remaining ~ 15% of the total. Rotational temperatures and column densities derived using standard rotation diagram analysis techniques were found to range from 70 - 300 K, and 10^14 - 10^17 cm^2 respectively. Duality Symmetries in Non-Linear Gauge Theories

Duality symmetries are discussed for non-linear gauge theories of (n-1)-th rank antisymmetric tensor fields in general even dimensions d=2n. When there are M field strengths and no scalar fields, the duality symmetry groups should be compact. We find conditions on the Lagrangian required by compact duality symmetries and show an example of duality invariant non-linear theories. We also discuss how to enlarge the duality symmetries to non-compact groups by coupling scalar fields described by non-linear sigma models.

Laboratory Measurement of the Pure Rotational Transitions of the HCNH+ and its Isotopic Species

The pure rotational transitions of the protonated hydrogen cyanide ion, HCNH+, and its isotopic species, HCND+ and DCND+, were measured in the 107 - 482 GHz region with a source modulated microwave spectrometer. The ions were generated in the cell with a magnetically confined dc-glow discharge of HCN and/or DCN. The rotational constant B0 and the centrifugal distortion constant D0 for each ion were precisely determined by a least-squares fitting to the observed spectral lines. The observed rotational transition frequencies by laboratory spectroscopy and the predicted ones are accurate in about 30 to 40 kHz and are useful as rest frequencies for astronomical searches of HCNH+ and HCND+.

Ward-Takahashi Identities in Large N Field Theories

The Ward-Takahashi identities in large N field theories are expressed in a simple form using master fields. Operators appearing in these expressions are found to be generators of symmetry transformations acting on the master fields.
