Displaced vertices in GMSB models at LHC

We consider minimal Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking models at which the next to lightest supersymmetric particle is a neutralino with a large enough decay length to be detected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We analyze the potential of the LHCb experiment to determine the discovery reach for such models and found that the LHCb will be able to probe such models up to the energy breaking scale of Λ= 130 TeV.

Probing neutralino properties in minimal supergravity with bilinear R-parity violation

Supersymmetric models with bilinear R-parity violation (BRPV) can account for the observed neutrino masses and mixing parameters indicated by neutrino oscillation data. We consider minimal supergravity versions of BRPV where the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is a neutralino. This is unstable, with a large enough decay length to be detected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We analyse the LHC potential to determine the LSP properties, such as mass, lifetime and branching ratios, and discuss their relation to neutrino properties.

Probing Neutrino Oscillations in Supersymmetric Models at the Large Hadron Collider

The lightest supersymmetric particle may decay with branching ratios that correlate with neutrino oscillation parameters. In this case the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has the potential to probe the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle with sensitivity competitive to its low-energy determination by underground experiments. Under realistic detection assumptions, we identify the necessary conditions for the experiments at CERN's LHC to probe the simplest scenario for neutrino masses induced by minimal supergravity with bilinear R parity violation.

The Hunt for New Physics at the Large Hadron Collider

The Large Hadron Collider presents an unprecedented opportunity to probe the realm of new physics in the TeV region and shed light on some of the core unresolved issues of particle physics. These include the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking, the origin of mass, the possible constituent of cold dark matter, new sources of CP violation needed to explain the baryon excess in the universe, the possible existence of extra gauge groups and extra matter, and importantly the path Nature chooses to resolve the hierarchy problem - is it supersymmetry or extra dimensions. Many models of new physics beyond the standard model contain a hidden sector which can be probed at the LHC. Additionally, the LHC will be a top factory and accurate measurements of the properties of the top and its rare decays will provide a window to new physics. Further, the LHC could shed light on the origin of neutralino masses if the new physics associated with their generation lies in the TeV region. Finally, the LHC is also a laboratory to test the hypothesis of TeV scale strings and D-brane models. An overview of these possibilities is presented in the spirit that it will serve as a companion to the Technical Design Reports (TDRs) by the particle detector groups ATLAS and CMS to facilitate the test of the new theoretical ideas at the LHC. Which of these ideas stands the test of the LHC data will govern the course of particle physics in the subsequent decades.

Searching supersymmetry at the LHCb with displaced vertices

Supersymmetric theories with bilinear R-parity violation can give rise to the observed neutrino masses and mixings. One important feature of such models is that the lightest supersymmetric particle might have a sufficiently large lifetime to give rise to detached vertices. Working in the framework of supergravity models we analyze the potential of the LHCb experiment to search for supersymmetric models exhibiting bilinear R-parity violation. We show that the LHCb experiment can probe a large fraction of the $m_0 \otimes m_{1/2}$ being able to explore gluino masses up to 1.3 TeV. The LHCb discover potential for this kind of models is similar to the ATLAS and CMS ones in the low luminosity phase of operation of the LHC.

Finding the Higgs Boson through Supersymmetry

The study of displaced vertices containing two b--jets may provide a double discovery at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC): we show how it may not only reveal evidence for supersymmetry, but also provide a way to uncover the Higgs boson necessary in the formulation of the electroweak theory in a large region of the parameter space. We quantify this explicitly using the simplest minimal supergravity model with bilinear breaking of R-parity, which accounts for the observed pattern of neutrino masses and mixings seen in neutrino oscillation experiments.

Probing bilinear R-parity violating supergravity at the LHC

We study the collider phenomenology of bilinear R-parity violating supergravity, the simplest effective model for supersymmetric neutrino masses accounting for the current neutrino oscillation data. At the CERN Large Hadron Collider the center-of-mass energy will be high enough to probe directly these models through the search for the superpartners of the Standard Model (SM) particles. We analyze the impact of R-parity violation on the canonical supersymmetry searches - that is, we examine how the decay of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) via bilinear R-parity violating interactions degrades the average expected missing momentum of the reactions and show how this diminishes the reach in the 'usual' channels for supersymmetry searches. However, the R-parity violating interactions lead to an enhancement of the final states containing isolated same-sign di-leptons and trileptons, compensating the reach loss in the fully inclusive channel. We show how the searches for displaced vertices associated to LSP decay substantially increase the coverage in supergravity parameter space, giving the corresponding reaches for two reference luminosities of 10 and 100 fb$^{-1}$ and compare with those of the R-parity conserving minimal supergravity model.

LHC signals for neutrino mass model in bilinear R-parity violating mAMSB

We investigate a neutrino mass model in which the neutrino data is accounted for by bilinear R-parity violating supersymmetry with anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking. We focus on the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) phenomenology, studying the reach of generic supersymmetry search channels with leptons, missing energy and jets. A special feature of this model is the existence of long lived neutralinos and charginos which decay inside the detector leading to detached vertices. We demonstrate that the largest reach is obtained in the displaced vertices channel and that practically all of the reasonable parameter space will be covered with an integrated luminosity of 10 fb-1. We also compare the displaced vertex reaches of the LHC and Tevatron.

Collider aspects of flavour physics at high Q

This review presents flavour related issues in the production and decays of heavy states at LHC, both from the experimental side and from the theoretical side. We review top quark physics and discuss flavour aspects of several extensions of the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs model or models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects as well as measurement of several properties of these heavy states. We also present public available computational tools related to this topic.

Probing neutrino mass with displaced vertices at the Tevatron

Supersymmetric extensions of the standard model exhibiting bilinear R-parity violation can generate naturally the observed neutrino mass spectrum as well mixings. One interesting feature of these scenarios is that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is unstable, with several of its decay properties predicted in terms of neutrino mixing angles. A smoking gun of this model in colliders is the presence of displaced vertices due to LSP decays in large parts of the parameter space. In this work we focus on the simplest model of this type that comes from minimal supergravity with universal R-parity conserving soft breaking of supersymmetry (RmSUGRA). We evaluate the potentiality of the Fermilab Tevatron to probe the RmSUGRA parameters through the analysis of events possessing two displaced vertices stemming from LSP decays. We show that requiring two displaced vertices in the events leads to a reach in m_{1/2} twice the one in the usual multilepton signals in a large fraction of the parameter space.

Neutrinos in Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking with R-Parity Violation

We show that a supersymmetric standard model exhibiting anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking can generate naturally the observed neutrino mass spectrum as well mixings when we include bilinear R-parity violation interactions. In this model, one of the neutrinos gets its mass due to the tree level mixing with the neutralinos induced by the R-parity violating interactions while the other two neutrinos acquire their masses due to radiative corrections. One interesting feature of this scenario is that the lightest supersymmetric particle is unstable and its decay can be observed at high energy colliders, providing a falsifiable test of the model.

Probing neutrino mass with multilepton production at the Tevatron in the simplest R-parity violation model

We analyze the production of multileptons in the simplest supergravity model with bilinear violation of R parity at the Fermilab Tevatron. Despite the small R-parity violating couplings needed to generate the neutrino masses indicated by current atmospheric neutrino data, the lightest supersymmetric particle is unstable and can decay inside the detector. This leads to a phenomenology quite distinct from that of the R-parity conserving scenario. We quantify by how much the supersymmetric multilepton signals differ from the R-parity conserving expectations, displaying our results in the $m_0 \otimes m_{1/2}$ plane. We show that the presence of bilinear R-parity violating interactions enhances the supersymmetric multilepton signals over most of the parameter space, specially at moderate and large $m_0$.

Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking without R-Parity

We analyze the low energy features of a supersymmetric standard model where the anomaly--induced contributions to the soft parameters are dominant in a scenario with bilinear $R$--parity violation. This class of models leads to mixings between the standard model particles and supersymmetric ones which change the low energy phenomenology and searches for supersymmetry. In addition, $R$--parity violation interactions give rise to small neutrino masses which we show to be consistent with the present observations.

Direct Signals for Large Extra Dimensions in the Production of Fermion Pairs at Linear Colliders

We analyze the potentiality of the new generation of $e^+e^-$ linear colliders to search for large extra dimensions via the production of fermion pairs in association with Kaluza-Klein gravitons (G), i.e. $e^+e^- \leftarrow f\bar{f}G$. This process leads to a final state exhibiting a significant amount of missing energy in addition to acoplanar lepton or jet pairs. We study in detail this reaction using full tree level contibutions due to the graviton emission and the standard model backgrounds. After choosing the cuts to enhance the signal, we show that a linear collider with a center-of-mass energy of 500 GeV will be able to probe quantum gravity scales from 0.96(0.86) up to 4.1(3.3) TeV at 2(5)$σ$ level, depending on the number of extra dimensions.

Searching for R-Parity Violation at Run-II of the Tevatron

We present an outlook for possible discovery of supersymmetry with broken R-parity at Run II of the Tevatron. We first present a review of the literature and an update of the experimental bounds. In turn we then discuss the following processes: 1. Resonant slepton production followed by R-parity violating decay, (a) via $LQD^c$ and (b) via $LLE^c$. 2. How to distinguish resonant slepton production from $Z'$ or $W'$ production. 3. Resonant slepton production followed by the decay to neutralino LSP, which decays via $LQD^c$. 4. Resonant stop production followed by the decay to a chargino, which cascades to the neutralino LSP. 5. Gluino pair production followed by the cascade decay to charm squarks which decay directly via $L_1Q_2D^c_1$. 6. Squark pair production followed by the cascade decay to the neutralino LSP which decays via $L_1Q_2D^c_1$. 7. MSSM pair production followed by the cascade decay to the LSP which decays (a) via $LLE^c$, (b) via $LQD^c$, and (c) via $U^cD^cD^c$, respectively. 8. Top quark and top squark decays in spontaneous R-parity violation.

Top-quark decay via R-parity violating interactions at the Tevatron

We consider the top-quark decay $t\to \tilde τb$ and $t\to τb \tildeχ^0_1$ via explicit R-parity violating interactions in SUSY theories. We discuss the observability of those channels at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The existing Tevatron data indicate a 95% confidence level upper bound on the coupling to be less than 0.94(0.63) for a long-lived (short-lived) $\tildeχ^0_1$ with $m_{\tildeτ}=70$ GeV. At Tevatron Run II with an integrated luminosity of 2 (10) fb$^{-1}$, one can obtain a 2$σ$ constraint as 0.38 (0.24) for a long-lived $\tildeχ^0_1$ and 0.29(0.19) for a short-lived $\tildeχ^0_1$, beyond the current indirect limit.

Diphoton Signals for Large Extra Dimensions at the Tevatron and CERN LHC

We analyze the potentiality of hadron colliders to search for large extra dimensions via the production of photon pairs. The virtual exchange of Kaluza--Klein gravitons can significantly enhance this processes provided the quantum gravity scale ($M_S$) is in the TeV range. We studied in detail the subprocesses $q \bar{q} \to γγ$ and $g g \to γγ$ taking into account the complete Standard Model and graviton contributions as well as the unitarity constraints. We show that the Tevatron Run II will be able to probe $M_S$ up to 1.5--1.9 TeV at 2$σ$ level, while the LHC can extend this search to 5.3--6.7 TeV, depending on the number of extra dimensions.

R-parity violating decays of the Top-Quark and the Top-Squark at the Tevatron

We study unconventional decays of the top-quark and the top-squark in the framework of SUSY models with broken R-parity. The model under study is the MSSM with an additional bilinear term that breaks R-parity. In this model the top-squark behaves similar to a third generation leptoquark. We demonstrate that existing Tevatron data on the top give rise to restrictions on the SUSY parameter space. In particular, we focus on scenarios where the tau-neutrino mass is smaller than 1 eV. We give an exclusion plot derived from the leptoquark searches at Tevatron.
