Conversion coefficients for superheavy elements

In this paper we report on internal conversion coefficients for Z = 111 to Z = 126 superheavy elements obtained from relativistic Dirac-Fock (DF) calculations. The effect of the atomic vacancy created during the conversion process has been taken into account using the so called "Frozen Orbital" approximation. The selection of this atomic model is supported by our recent comparison of experimental and theoretical conversion coefficients across a wide range of nuclei. The atomic masses, valence shell electron configurations, and theoretical atomic binding energies required for the calculations were adopted from a critical evaluation of the published data. The new conversion coefficient data tables presented here cover all atomic shells, transition energies from 1 keV up to 6000 keV, and multipole orders of 1 to 5. A similar approach was used in our previous calculations [1] for Z = 5 - 110.

The impact of multipole and relativistic effects on photoionization and radiative recombination cross sections in hot plasmas

It is shown in the framework of the fully relativistic Dirac-Fock treatment of photoionization and radiative recombination processes that taking into account all significant multipoles of the radiative field is of considerable importance at electron energy higher than several keV. For the first time, we show that the relativistic Maxwell-Bolzmann distribution of continuum electrons should be used in hot thermal plasmas. This decreases the radiative recombination rate coefficient up to several multipoles compared to the non-relativistic distribution commonly used.

Comment on "Quantitative x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy: Quadrupole effects, shake up, Shirley background, and relative sensitivity factors from a database of true x-ray photoelectron spectra"

This Comment demonstrates that a comparison analysis by Seah and Gilmore between experimental data on the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy intensities and theoretical data by Trzhaskovskaya et al. is misleading due to a number of serious errors made by Seah and Gilmore (Phys. Rev. B, 73, 174113).

Comment on a paper by M. A. Bautista ``Atomic data from the Iron Project. XVI. Photoionization cross sections and oscillator strengths for Fe V''

Recently, Bautista (1996, A&AS, 119, 105) reported new calculations of photoionization cross sections for Fe V, and compared them with the earlier results of Reilman & Manson (1979, ApJS, 40, 815) and Verner et al. (1993, Atomic Data Nucl. Data Tables, 55, 233). Bautista claimed that beyond 10 Ry the new cross sections ``converge well toward the results by Reilman and Manson'', whereas ``the calculations by Verner et al. still underestimate the cross section by almost factor of two''. We show that Bautista erroneously compared the total (summed over shells) cross sections from Reilman & Manson with the partial 3d-shell cross sections from Verner et al. Actually, the total cross sections from Verner et al. and Reilman & Manson agree within 3% at all energies.
