Determination of |Vub|

The element Vub of the CKM mixing matrix is the smallest of the quark couplings and is crucial in understanding CP violation in the B system. In this review, we discuss the present status of the determination of its magnitude, which involves a significant effort both experimentally and theoretically. Decisive progress has been achieved in recent years, thanks in part to the large data sets that have become available at the B factories. Based on these data we propose an average |Vub| value of (3.67 \pm 0.47)x10^{-3}, which has an uncertainty of 13%. With the experimental and theoretical progress expected in the next few years a determination to an accuracy of 10%, or better, seems feasible.

The Invisible Higgs Decay Width in the Add Model at the LHC

Assuming flat universal extra dimensions, we demonstrate that for a light Higgs boson the process $pp\to W^*W^* +X \to Higgs, graviscalars +X \to invisible+X$ will be observable at the $5 σ$ level at the LHC for the portion of the Higgs-graviscalar mixing ($ξ$) and effective Planck mass ($M_D$) parameter space where channels relying on visible Higgs decays fail to achieve a $5 σ$ signal. Further, we show that even for very modest values of $ξ$ the invisible decay signal probes to higher $M_D$ than does the ($ξ$-independent) jets/$\gam$ + missing energy signal from graviton radiation. We also discuss various effects, such as Higgs decay to two graviscalars, that could become important when $m_h/M_D$ is of order 1.

The CKM Matrix and the Unitarity Triangle

This report contains the results of the Workshop on the CKM Unitarity Triangle, held at CERN on 13-16 February 2002 to study the determination of the CKM matrix from the available data of K, D, and B physics. This is a coherent document with chapters covering the determination of CKM elements from tree level decays and K and B meson mixing and the global fits of the unitarity triangle parameters. The impact of future measurements is also discussed.

Direct Searches of New Physics at CLIC

The multi-TeV e+e- collider CLIC may allow for the direct study of new neutral gauge bosons or Kaluza-Klein states in the TeV range. We discuss some of the experimental aspects for the study of such resonances. Further we discuss briefly the effects of soft branes in scenarios with Large Extra Dimensions, and the production of Black Holes at CLIC.

Updated Post-WMAP Benchmarks for Supersymmetry

We update a previously-proposed set of supersymmetric benchmark scenarios, taking into account the precise constraints on the cold dark matter density obtained by combining WMAP and other cosmological data, as well as the LEP and b -> s gamma constraints. We assume that R parity is conserved and work within the constrained MSSM (CMSSM) with universal soft supersymmetry-breaking scalar and gaugino masses m_0 and m_1/2. In most cases, the relic density calculated for the previous benchmarks may be brought within the WMAP range by reducing slightly m_0, but in two cases more substantial changes in m_0 and m_1/2 are made. Since the WMAP constraint reduces the effective dimensionality of the CMSSM parameter space, one may study phenomenology along `WMAP lines' in the (m_1/2, m_0) plane that have acceptable amounts of dark matter. We discuss the production, decays and detectability of sparticles along these lines, at the LHC and at linear e+ e- colliders in the sub- and multi-TeV ranges, stressing the complementarity of hadron and lepton colliders, and with particular emphasis on the neutralino sector. Finally, we preview the accuracy with which one might be able to predict the density of supersymmetric cold dark matter using collider measurements.

Heavy Quark Parameters and Vcb from Spectral Moments in Semileptonic B Decays

We extract the heavy quark masses and non-perturbative parameters from the Delphi preliminary measurements of the first three moments of the charged lepton energy and hadronic mass distributions in semileptonic B decays, using a multi-parameter fit. We adopt two formalisms, one of which does not rely on a 1/mc expansion and makes use of running quark masses. The data are consistent and the level of accuracy of the experimental inputs largely determines the present sensitivity. The results allow to improve on the uncertainty in the extraction of Vcb.

Pair production of charged Higgs bosons at future linear e+e- colliders

In this paper, the pair production of charged Higgs bosons at possible future e+e- linear colliders is studied. Multi-jet final states are considered and the combinatorial, hadronic and genuine tbtb backgrounds are reduced thanks to a kinematical fit. TeV-class and multi-TeV linear colliders are likely to be sensitive to charged Higgs bosons with masses up to about 350 GeV and 1.0 TeV respectively.

The Snowmass Points and Slopes: Benchmarks for SUSY Searches

The ``Snowmass Points and Slopes'' (SPS) are a set of benchmark points and parameter lines in the MSSM parameter space corresponding to different scenarios in the search for Supersymmetry at present and future experiments. This set of benchmarks was agreed upon at the 2001 ``Snowmass Workshop on the Future of Particle Physics'' as a consensus based on different existing proposals.

Probing New Scales at a e+e- Linear Collider

Extending the sensitivity to New Physics beyond the anticipated reach of the LHC is a prime aim of future colliders. This paper summarises the potential of an e+e- linear collider, at and beyond 1 TeV, using a realistic simulation of the detector response and the accelerator induced background. The possible LC energy-luminosity trade-offs offered in probing multi-TeV scales for new phenomena with electro-weak observables are also discussed.

Graviton Production at CLIC

Direct production of Kaluza-Klein states in the TeV range is studied for the experimental environment at the multi-TeV $e^+e^-$ collider CLIC. The sensitivity of such data to model parameters is discussed for the Randall-Sundrum(RS) and TeV scale extra dimensional models.

Post-LEP CMSSM Benchmarks for Supersymmetry

We introduce a set of CMSSM benchmark scenarios that take into account the constraints from LEP, Tevatron, $b \to s γ$, $g_μ- 2$ and cosmology. The benchmark points are chosen to span the range of different generic possibilities, including focus-point models, points where coannihilation effects on the relic density are important, and points with rapid relic annihilation via direct-channel Higgs poles, as well as points with smaller sparticle masses. We make initial estimates of the physics reaches of different accelerators, including the LHC, and $e^+ e^-$ colliders in the sub- and multi-TeV ranges. We stress the complementarity of hadron and lepton colliders, with the latter favoured for non-strongly-interacting particles and precision measurements.

Determination of the muon Yukawa coupling at high energy e+e- linear colliders

The perspectives for the observation of the rare decay H -> mumu decay and the determination of the muon Yukawa coupling at a TeV-class and at a multi-TeV e+e- linear colliders are discussed. The signal for the decay can be obtained at 0.8 TeV and a first estimate of the coupling derived. A linear collider operating at 3 TeV, with high luminosity, is able to improve the accuracy on this couplings to 4% to 11% for 120 GeV < M_H < 150 GeV.

Proposed Post-LEP Benchmarks for Supersymmetry

We propose a new set of supersymmetric benchmark scenarios, taking into account the constraints from LEP, b to s gamma, g_mu - 2 and cosmology. We work in the context of the constrained MSSM (CMSSM) with universal soft supersymetry-breaking masses and assume that R parity is conserved. We propose benchmark points that exemplify the different generic possibilities, including focus-point models, points where coannihilation effects on the relic density are important, and points with rapid relic annihilation via direct-channel Higgs poles. We discuss the principal decays and signatures of the different classes of benchmark scenarios, and make initial estimates of the physics reaches of different accelerators, including the Tevatron collider, the LHC, and e+ e- colliders in the sub- and multi-TeV ranges. We stress the complementarity of hadron and lepton colliders, with the latter favoured for non-strongly-interacting particles and precision measurements. We mention features that could usefully be included in future versions of supersymmetric event generators.

A Pixel Vertex Tracker for the TESLA Detector

In order to fully exploit the physics potential of a e+e- linear collider, such as TESLA, a Vertex Tracker providing high resolution track reconstruction is required. Hybrid Silicon pixel sensors are an attractive sensor technology option due to their read-out speed and radiation hardness, favoured in the high rate TESLA environment, but have been so far limited by the achievable single point space resolution. A novel layout of pixel detectors with interleaved cells to improve their spatial resolution is introduced and the results of the characterisation of a first set of test structures are discussed. In this note, a conceptual design of the TESLA Vertex Tracker, based on hybrid pixel sensors is presented

Study of e+e- -> H+H- at a 800 GeV Linear Collider

The production and decay of heavy charged Higgs bosons at a 800 GeV e+e- linear collider have been studied. The analysis of the H+H- -> tb tb, expected to be dominant in the MSSM, and H+H- -> W+h0 W-h0 decay modes leading to the same final state consisting of two W bosons and four b quarks, provides with a determination of the boson mass to 1 GeV and of the production cross section with 10% accuracy for 500 fb-1 of data.
