A Novel Approach in Solving the Spinor-Spinor Bethe-Salpeter Equation

To solve the spinor-spinor Bethe-Salpeter equation in Euclidean space we propose a novel method related to the use of hyperspherical harmonics. We suggest an appropriate extension to form a new basis of spin-angular harmonics that is suitable for a representation of the vertex functions. We present a numerical algorithm to solve the Bethe-Salpeter equation and investigate in detail the properties of the solution for the scalar, pseudoscalar and vector meson exchange kernels including the stability of bound states. We also compare our results to the non relativistic ones and to the results given by light front dynamics.

Thermodynamical properties of QED in 1+1 dimensions within light front dynamics

We investigate thermodynamical properties of quantum electrodynamics in 1+1 dimensions. Discrete light cone quantization is used to compute the partition function of the canonical ensemble and the thermodynamical potential. The potential is evaluated for different system sizes and coupling strengths. We perform the continuum limit and the thermodynamical limit and present basic thermodynamical quantities as a function of temperature for the interacting system. A more accurate estimation of low lying bound state masses at non-perturbative coupling strength are determined due to the higher harmonic resolution.

Solution of the 5D Einstein equations in a dilaton background model

We obtain an explicit solution of the 5d Einstein equations in a dilaton background model. We demonstrate that for each metric ansatz that only depends on the extra coordinate, it is possible to uniquely determine the dilaton field and its potential consistently with the 5d Einstein equation. In this holographic dual model of QCD, conformal symmetry of the Anti-de-Sitter metric near the 4d boundary is broken by a term that leads to an area law for the Wilson loop. We verify that confinement of the string modes dual to mesons follows from the metric background and the corresponding dilaton solution of the gravity-dilaton coupled equations. In addition, we show that the meson Regge trajectories constrain the metric and corresponding dilaton background within the area law requirement. We can also incorporate asymptotic freedom in the gravity background within the model.

Light front QED$_{1+1}$ at finite temperature

We investigate thermodynamic properties of quantum electrodynamics in 1+1 dimensions (QED$_{1+1}$) utilizing light front dynamics. Therefore we derive the partition function of the canonical ensemble in discrete light cone quantization, and calculate the thermodynamical potential. This central quantity is evaluated for different system sizes and coupling strengths. We investigate the continuum limit and the thermodynamical limit and present basic thermodynamical quantities such as pressure, energy, and entropy, as a function of temperature for the interacting system. The results are compared to the ideal bosonic and fermionic cases.

Peculiarities in the Structure of Two-Particle States within the Bethe-Salpeter Approach

The two-fermion bound system is an attractive subject of atomic and sub-atomic physics. Despite these systems are rather simple the study of two-particle bound states is challenging and still remains a source of progress in quantum theory. Here we present a new method of solving the Bethe Salpeter equations for the bound states of spinor particles by using the expansion of the vertex functions over the complete set of four-dimensional hyperspherical harmonics. Within this method the BS equation is treated in a ladder approximation for the cases of scalar, pseudoscalar and vector meson exchanges with corresponding form factors. This method is shown to be effective and stable.

CP Studies and Non-Standard Higgs Physics

There are many possibilities for new physics beyond the Standard Model that feature non-standard Higgs sectors. These may introduce new sources of CP violation, and there may be mixing between multiple Higgs bosons or other new scalar bosons. Alternatively, the Higgs may be a composite state, or there may even be no Higgs at all. These non-standard Higgs scenarios have important implications for collider physics as well as for cosmology, and understanding their phenomenology is essential for a full comprehension of electroweak symmetry breaking. This report discusses the most relevant theories which go beyond the Standard Model and its minimal, CP-conserving supersymmetric extension: two-Higgs-doublet models and minimal supersymmetric models with CP violation, supersymmetric models with an extra singlet, models with extra gauge groups or Higgs triplets, Little Higgs models, models in extra dimensions, and models with technicolour or other new strong dynamics. For each of these scenarios, this report presents an introduction to the phenomenology, followed by contributions on more detailed theoretical aspects and studies of possible experimental signatures at the LHC and other colliders.

Determination of New Electroweak Parameters at the ILC - Sensitivity to New Physics

We present a study of the sensitivity of an International Linear Collider (ILC) to electroweak parameters in the absence of a light Higgs boson. In particular, we consider those parameters that have been inaccessible at previous colliders, quartic gauge couplings. Within a generic effective-field theory context we analyze all processes that contain quasi-elastic weak-boson scattering, using complete six-fermion matrix elements in unweighted event samples, fast simulation of the ILC detector, and a multidimensional parameter fit of the set of anomalous couplings. The analysis does not rely on simplifying assumptions such as custodial symmetry or approximations such as the equivalence theorem. We supplement this by a similar new study of triple weak-boson production, which is sensitive to the same set of anomalous couplings. Including the known results on triple gauge couplings and oblique corrections, we thus quantitatively determine the indirect sensitivity of the ILC to new physics in the electroweak symmetry-breaking sector, conveniently parameterized by real or fictitious resonances in each accessible spin/isospin channel.

Light front approach to correlations in hot quark matter

We investigate two-quark correlations in hot and dense quark matter. To this end we use the light front field theory extended to finite temperature $T$ and chemical potential $μ$. Therefore it is necessary to develop quantum statistics formulated on the light front plane. As a test case for light front quantization at finite $T$ and $μ$ we consider the NJL model. The solution of the in-medium gap equation leads to a constituent quark mass which depends on $T$ and $μ$. Two-quark systems are considered in the pionic and diquark channel. We compute the masses of the two-body system using a $T$-matrix approach.

Light front field theory of relativistic quark matter

Light-front quantization to many-particle systems of finite temperature and density provides a novel approach towards a relativistic description of quark matter and allows us to calculate the perturbative as well as the non-perturbative regime of QCD. Utilizing a Dyson expansion of light-front many-body Green functions we have so far calculated three-quark, quark-quark, and quark-antiquark correlations that lead to the chiral phase transition, the formation of hadrons and color superconductivity in a hot and/or dense environment. Presently, we use an effective zero-range interaction, to compare our results with the more traditional instant form approach where applicable.

Experimental studies of Strong Electroweak Symmetry Breaking in gauge boson scattering and three gauge boson production

If no light Higgs boson exist, the interaction among the gauge bosons becomes strong at high energies (~1TeV). The effects of strong electroweak symmetry breaking (SEWSB) could manifest themselves as anomalous couplings before they give rise to new physical states, thus measurement of all couplings and their possible deviation from Standard Model (SM) values could give valuable information for understanding the true nature of symmetry breaking sector. Here we present a detailed study of the measurement of quartic gauge couplings in weak boson scattering processes and a possibility for same measurement in triple weak boson production. Expected limits on the parameters alpha_4 alpha_5,alpha_6, alpha_7 and alpha_10 in electroweak chiral Lagrangian are given.

Light Nuclei within Nuclear Matter

We investigate the properties of 3He, 4He, 6He, 7Li and 16O nuclei in nuclear matter of finite temperature and density. A Dyson expansion of the many-body Green function leads to few-body equations that are solved using the ntegro-Differential Equation Approach (IDEA) and the Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics (AMD) methods. The use of the latter method allows us to trace the individual movement of the wave packet for each nucleon and the formation and disintegration of quasi-nuclei in a changing thermodynamical nuclear matter environment.

Solving the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation

We develop an advanced method of solving homogeneous and inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equations by using the expansion over the complete set of 4-dimensional spherical harmonics. We solve Bethe-Salpeter equations for bound and scattering states of scalar and spinor particles for the case of one meson exchange kernels. Phase shifts calculated for the scalar model are in agreement with the previously published results. We discuss possible manifestations of separability for one meson exchange interaction kernels.

Dissociation of hadrons in quark matter within finite temperature field theory approach on the light front

We present a relativistic three-body equation to investigate the properties of nucleons in hot and dense nuclear/quark matter. Within the light front approach we utilize a zero-range interaction to study the three-body dynamics. The relativistic in-medium equation is derived within a systematic Dyson equation approach that includes the dominant medium effects due to Pauli blocking and self energy corrections. We present the in-medium nucleon mass and calculate the dissociation of the three-body system.

Dynamics of few-body states in a medium

Strongly interacting matter such as nuclear or quark matter leads to few-body bound states and correlations of the constituents. As a consequence quantum chromodynamics has a rich phase structure with spontaneous symmetry breaking, superconductivity, condensates of different kinds. All this appears in many astrophysical scenarios. Among them is the formation of hadrns during the early stage of the Universe, the structure of a neutron star, the formation of nuclei during a supernova explosion. Some of these extreme conditions can be simulated in heavy ion colliders. To treat such a hot and dense system we use the Green function formalism of many-body theory. It turns out that a systematic Dyson expansion of the Green functions leads to modified few-body equations that are capable to describe phase transitions, condensates, cluster formation and more. These equations include self energy corrections and Pauli blocking. We apply this method to nonrelativistic and relativistic matter. The latter one is treated on the light front. Because of the medium and the inevitable truncation of space, the few-body dynamics and states depend on the thermodynamic parameters of the medium.

Restoration of chiral symmetry in light-front finite temperature field theory

We investigate the properties of $qq$ and $q\bar q$ states in hot and dense quark matter in the framework of light-front finite temperature field theory. Presently we use the Nambu Jona-Lasinio model of QCD and derive the gap equation at finite temperature and density. We study pionic and scalar diquark dynamics in quark matter and calculate the masses and the Mott dissociation as a function of the temperature $T$ and the chemical potential $μ$. For the scalar diquark we determine the critical temperature of color superconductivity.

Quartic gauge couplings from e+e- -> WWZ

Effective anomalous quartic gauge couplings on tree level appear, e.g., in a strong interacting Higgs scenario. We present a status report on our study on triple boson production sensitive to these couplings. The study is done for parameters of a future linear collider.

The in-medium few-body problem

We are concerned with few-particle correlations in a fermionic system at finite temperature and density. Within the many-body Green functions formalism the description of correlations is provided by the Dyson equation approach that leads to effective few-body equations. They contain the dominant medium effects, which are self energy corrections and the Pauli blocking. Hence the effective two-body interactions between quasiparticles are momentum/energy-dependent and therefore they can be usesed in the medium modified, momentum space, integral AGS equations for three- and four-body systems. To investigate correlations and clusters beyond four-body, we employ, instead, the configuration space two-variable integro-differential equations (IDEA) for $A$-body bound systems which are based on Hyperspherical Harmonics and the Faddeev decomposition of the wave function in two-body amplitudes. This requires the transformation of the energy dependent two-body interactions to equivalent local, energy independent, ones. To achieve this we use inverse scattering techniques the resulting interactions being, on-- and (to all practical purposes) off--shell equivalent to the energy dependent potentials. In this way we obtain binding energy results for the 2--, 3--, 4--, and 16--particle in a medium at a finite temperature and various densities. Several aspects of the problem are discussed and the behavior of the potential surfaces obtained in the extreme adiabatic approximation, below and above the Mott transition, is investigated.
