Finite-size effects in Schulz-Shastry-Luttinger models for determining anyonic signatures in 1d spin chains

We study finite-size properties of Schulz-Shastry-Luttinger liquids to reveal anyonic signatures, realized as low-energy excitations on top of the helical ground state in saturated spin-1/2 zigzag chains. The model features asymmetric and marginal couplings of density and phase gradients and belongs to the Schulz-Shastry class. We investigate periodic and Dirichlet boundary conditions and discuss its diagonalization as well as its stability. Although Dirichlet boundary conditions require a fine-tuning of coupling constants and universal parameters, only their magnitude is restricted for cyclic systems. We derive boundary characteristic quantities like Friedel oscillations and persistent currents. Finally, we discuss the bulk and boundary behavior of the longitudinal spin correlations including subleading corrections.

Chirally-protected state manipulation by tuning one-dimensional statistics

Chiral symmetry is broken by typical interactions in lattice models, but the statistical interactions embodied in the anyon-Hubbard model are an exception. This is an example for a correlated hopping model where chiral symmetry protects a degenerate zero-energy subspace. Complementary to the traditional approach of anyon braiding in real space, we adiabatically evolve the statistical parameter and find non-trivial Berry phases and holonomies in this chiral subspace. The corresponding states possess stationary checkerboard patterns in their $N$-particle densities which are preserved under adiabatic manipulation. We give an explicit protocol for how these chirally-protected zero-energy states can be prepared, observed, validated, and controlled.

Bosonic continuum theory of one-dimensional lattice anyons

Anyons with arbitrary exchange phases exist on 1D lattices in ultracold gases. Yet, known continuum theories in 1D do not match. We derive the continuum limit of 1D lattice anyons via interacting bosons. The theory maintains the exchange phase periodicity fully analogous to 2D anyons. This provides a mapping between experiments, lattice anyons, and continuum theories, including Kundu anyons with a natural regularization as a special case. We numerically estimate the Luttinger parameter as a function of the exchange angle to characterize long-range signatures of the theory and predict different velocities for left- and right-moving collective excitations.
