Linking electrical and thermal conductivity through cross-property inclusion modelling

We derive a new cross-property differential effective medium scheme for a composite material's thermal conductivity as a function of its electrical conductivity and vice versa. Our scheme assumes that one phase is embedded in the other as inclusions. The relations are independent of inclusion volume fraction, but depend on the aspect ratio of the inclusions. We show that the method successfully models published laboratory measurements on a copper-graphite composite, with the inferred aspect ratio matching the physical shape of the inclusions. This work complements earlier results on elastic-electrical cross-property differential effective medium modelling, and has the potential to be extended for different cross-property relationships.

Below-threshold CP-odd Higgs boson search via A -> Z* h at the LHC

We study the process q q, g g -> A -> Z* h in a 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type-II where the mass of the CP-odd Higgs state A is lower than the rest mass of the Z and h particles (the latter being the Standard Model-like Higgs state), i.e., mA < mZ + mh = 215 GeV. This is a mass range which is not being currently tested by ATLAS and CMS in this channel, yet we show that there can be sensitivity to it already during Runs 2 and 3, assuming leptonic decays of the gauge boson and bottom-antibottom quark ones for the Higgs boson.

Design and performance of the LHCb trigger and full real-time reconstruction in Run 2 of the LHC

The LHCb collaboration has redesigned its trigger to enable the full offline detector reconstruction to be performed in real time. Together with the real-time alignment and calibration of the detector, and a software infrastructure to make persistent the high-level physics objects produced during real-time processing, this redesign enabled the widespread deployment of real-time analysis during Run 2. We describe the design of the Run 2 trigger and real-time reconstruction, and present data-driven performance measurements for a representative sample of LHCb's physics programme.
