The Dynamical Dipole Mode in Dissipative Heavy Ion Collisions

We study the effect of a direct Giant Dipole Resonance ($GDR$) excitation in intermediate dinuclear systems with exotic shape and charge distributions formed in charge asymmetric fusion entrance channels. A related enhancement of the $GDR$ gamma yield in the evaporation cascade of the fused nucleus is expected. The dynamical origin of such $GDR$ extra strength will show up in a characteristic anisotropy of the dipole gamma-emission. A fully microscopic analysis of the fusion dynamics is performed with quantitative predictions of the $GDR$ photon yield based on a dynamics- statistics coupling model. In particular we focus our attention on the energy and mass dependence of the effect. We suggest a series of new experiments, in particular some optimal entrance channel conditions. We stress the importance of using the new available radioactive beams.

Strongly damped nuclear collisions: zero or first sound ?

The relaxation of the collective quadrupole motion in the initial stage of a central heavy ion collision at beam energies $E_{lab}=5\div20$ AMeV is studied within a microscopic kinetic transport model. The damping rate is shown to be a non-monotonic function of E_{lab} for a given pair of colliding nuclei. This fact is interpreted as a manifestation of the zero-to-first sound transition in a finite nuclear system.

Multifragmentation of charge asymmetric nuclear systems

The multifragmentation of excited spherical nuclear sources with various N/Z ratios and fixed mass number is studied within dynamical and statistical models. The dynamical model treats the multifragmentation process as a final stage of the growth of density fluctuations in unstable expanding nuclear matter. The statistical model makes a choice of the final multifragment configuration according to its statistical weight at a global thermal equilibrium. Similarities and differences in the predictions of the two models on the isotopic composition of the produced fragments are presented and the most sensitive observable characteristics are discussed.

Dynamics of dissipative binary collisions

In this paper we discuss the reaction mechanisms that occur in the overlap zone for semi-peripheral heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies. In particular we focus on the development of neck instabilities, that could determine a possible increase of dynamical fluctuations. As observed in recent experimental data, at beam energies just above 10 MeV/A the most relevant expected consequence is the possibility to obtain large variances in the projectile-like and target-like observables. With increasing beam energy we pass to a mid-rapidity fragment production. In this way we predict a smooth transition from a deep-inelastic to a fragmentation reaction mechanism.

Analysis of Boltzmann-Langevin Dynamics in Nuclear Matter

The Boltzmann-Langevin dynamics of harmonic modes in nuclear matter is analyzed within linear-response theory, both with an elementary treatment and by using the frequency-dependent response function. It is shown how the source terms agitating the modes can be obtained from the basic BL correlation kernel by a simple projection onto the associated dual basis states, which are proportional to the RPA amplitudes and can be expressed explicitly. The source terms for the correlated agitation of any two such modes can then be extracted directly, without consideration of the other modes. This facilitates the analysis of collective modes in unstable matter and makes it possible to asses the accuracy of an approximate projection technique employed previously.
