Perturbative aspects of mass dimension one fermions non-minimally coupled to electromagnetic field

This paper addresses perturbative aspects of the renormalization of a fermion with mass dimension one non-minimally coupled to the electromagnetic field. Specifically, we calculate the one-loop corrections to the propagators and vertex functions of the model and determine the one-loop beta function of the non-minimal electromagnetic coupling. Additionally, we perform calculations of the two-loop corrections to the gauge field propagator, demonstrating that it remains massless and transverse up to this order. We also find that the non-minimal electromagnetic coupling can exhibit asymptotic freedom if a certain condition is satisfied. As a potential dark matter candidate, these findings suggest that the field may decouple at high energies. This aspect holds significance for calculating the relic abundance and freeze-out temperature of the field, particularly in relation to processes involving the ordinary particles of the Standard Model.

Gravitational corrections to two-loop beta function in quantum electrodynamics

In this work, we use the framework of effective field theory to couple Einstein's gravity to quantum electrodynamics (QED) and determine the gravitational corrections to the two-loop beta function of the electric charge in arbitrary electrodynamics (Lorentz-like) and arbitrary (de Donder like) gravitational gauges. Our results indicate that gravitational corrections do not alter the running behavior of the electric charge; on the contrary, we observe that it gives a positive contribution to the beta function, making the electric charge grow even faster.

Entanglement Entropy from TFD Entropy Operator

In this work, a canonical method to compute entanglement entropy is proposed. We show that for two-dimensional conformal theories defined in a torus, a choice of moduli space allows the typical entropy operator of the TFD to provide the entanglement entropy of the degrees of freedom defined in a segment and their complement. In this procedure, it is not necessary to make an analytic continuation from the Rényi entropy and the von Neumann entanglement entropy is calculated directly from the expected value of an entanglement entropy operator. We also propose a model for the evolution of the entanglement entropy and show that it grows linearly with time.

Time dependent Entanglement Entropy in dissipative conformal theories: TFD approach

In this work the TFD formalism is explored in order to study a dissipative time-dependent thermal vacuum. This state is a consequence of a particular interaction between two theories, which can be interpreted as two conformal theories defined at the two asymptotic boundaries of an AdS black hole. The initial state is prepared to be the equilibrium TFD thermal vacuum. The interaction causes dissipation from the point of view of observers who measure observables in one of the boundaries. We show that the vacuum evolves as an entangled state at finite temperature and the dissipative dynamics is controlled by the time-dependent entropy operator, defined in the non-equilibrium TFD framework. We use lattice field theory techniques to calculate the non-equilibrium thermodynamic entropy and the finite temperature entanglement entropy. We show that both grow linearly with time.

Mass dimension one fermions and their gravitational interaction

We investigate in detail the interaction between the spin-${1/2}$ fields endowed with mass dimension one and the graviton. We obtain an interaction vertex that combines the characteristics of scalar-graviton and Dirac's fermion-graviton vertices, due to the scalar-dynamic attribute and the fermionic structure of this field. It is shown that the vertex obtained obeys the Ward-Takahashi identity, ensuring the gauge invariance for this interaction. In the contribution of the mass dimension one fermion to the graviton propagator at one-loop, we found the conditions for the cancellation of the tadpole term by a cosmological counter-term. We calculate the scattering process for arbitrary momentum. For low energies, the result reveals that only the scalar sector present in the vertex contributes to the gravitational potential. Finally, we evaluate the non relativistic limit of the gravitational interaction and obtain an attractive Newtonian potential, as required for a dark matter candidate.

Some Aspects on Non-commutative Theories with a compactified Extra-Dimension

We study some aspects when one consider the existence of one extra-dimension in addition to a non-commutative space-time. We present here two different examples, where the first one provides a scenario were it is possible to relate the variations on the compactification radius $L$ and the non-commutative parameter $θ^{μν}$, recovering the usual Minkowski $(3+1)D$ metric and, in the other one, we can set a simple relationship between this radius and $θ$, the non-commutative parameter, for the gravitational potential between a point particle and a straight cosmic string in $(2+1)D$.

Effective lagrangian for a mass dimension one fermionic field in curved spacetime

In this work we use momentum-space techniques to evaluate the propagator $G(x,x^{\prime})$ for a spin $1/2$ mass dimension one spinor field on a curved Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime. As a consequence, we built the one-loop correction to the effective lagrangian in the coincidence limit. Going further we compute the effective lagrangian in the finite temperature regime. We arrive at interesting cosmological consequences, as time-dependent cosmological `constant', fully explaining the functional form of previous cosmological models.

Constraining Elko Dark Matter at the LHC with Monophoton Events

A mass dimension one fermion, also known as Elko, constitutes a dark matter candidate which might interact with photons at the tree level in a specific fashion. In this work, we investigate the constraints imposed by unitarity and LHC data on this type of interactions using the search for new physics in monophoton events. We found that Elkos which can explain the dark matter relic abundance mainly through electromagnetic interactions are excluded at the 95\%CL by the 8 TeV LHC data for masses up to 1 TeV.

A relation between deformed superspace and Lee-Wick higher-derivative theories

We propose a type of non-anticommutative superspace, with the interesting property of relating to Lee-Wick type of higher derivatives theories, which are known for their interesting properties, and have lead to proposals of phenomenologicaly viable higher derivatives extensions of the Standard Model. The deformation of superspace we consider does not preserve supersymmetry or associativity in general; however, we show that a non-anticommutative version of the Wess-Zumino model can be properly defined. In fact, the definition of chiral and antichiral superfields turns out to be simpler in our case than in the well known ${\cal N}=1/2$ supersymmetric case. We show that, when the theory is truncated at the first nontrivial order in the deformation parameter, supersymmetry is restored, and we end up with a well known Lee-Wick type of higher derivative extension of the Wess-Zumino model. Thus we show how non-anticommutative could provide an alternative mechanism for generation of these kind of higher derivative theories.

Perspectives for an Elko Phenomenology using Monojets at the 14 TeV LHC

The aim of this work is to explore the possibility to discover a fermionic field with mass dimension one, the Elko field, in the 14 TeV Large Hadron Collider (LHC), in processes with missing energy and one jet. We explore the possibility of a triple coupling with the Higgs field, generating also a contribution to the Elko mass term, and suggest some possibilities for future studies in this field.

Braneworlds scenarios in a gravity model with higher order spatial three-curvature terms

In this work we study a Horava-like five-dimensional model in the context of braneworld theory. To begin with, the equations of motion of such model are obtained and, within the realm of warped geometry, we show that the model is consistent if and only if $λ$ takes its relativistic value 1. Furthermore, since the first derivative of the warp factor is discontinuous over the branes, we show that the elimination of problematic terms involving the square of the warp factor second order derivatives are eliminated by imposing detailed balance condition in the bulk. Afterwards, the Israel's junction conditions are computed, allowing the attainment of an effective Lagrangian in the visible brane. In particular, for a (4+1)-dimensional Horava-like model defined in the bulk without cosmological constant, we show that the resultant effective Lagrangian in the brane corresponds to a (3+1)-dimensional Horava-like model with an emergent positive cosmological constant but without detailed balance condition. Now, restoration of detailed balance condition, at this time imposed over the brane, plays an interesting role by fitting accordingly the sign of the arbitrary constant $β$ that labels the extra terms in the model, insuring a positive brane tension and a real energy for the graviton within its dispersion relation. To end up with, the brane consistency equations are obtained and, as a result, we show that the detailed balance condition again plays an essential role in eliminating bad behaving terms and that the model admits positive brane tensions in the compactification scheme if, and only if, $β$ is negative, what is in accordance with the previous result obtained for the visible brane.

Effective potential for a SUSY Lee-Wick model: the Wess-Zumino case

Using a superfield generalization of the tadpole method, we study the one-loop effective potential for a Wess Zumino model modified by a higher-derivative term, inspired by the Lee-Wick model. The one-loop Kählerian potential is also obtained by other methods and compared with the effective potential.

Exploring Elko typical signature

We study the prospects of observing the presence of a relatively light Elko particle as a possible dark matter candidate, by pointing out a typical signature for the process encompassing the Elko non-locality, exploring some consequences of the unusual Elko propagator behavior when analyzed outside the Elko axis of propagation. We also consider the production of a light Elko associated to missing energy and isolated leptons at the LHC, with center of mass energy of 7 and 14 TeV and total luminosity from $1 fb^{-1}$ to $10 fb^{-1}$. Basically, the Elko non locality engenders a peculiar signal in the missing energy turning it sensible to the angle of detection.

Five-Dimensional f(R) Braneworld Models

After incorporating the f(R) gravity into the general braneworld sum rules scope, it is shown that some particular class of warped five dimensional nonlinear braneworld models, which may be interesting for the hierarchy problem solution, still require a negative tension brane. For other classes of warp factors (suitable and not suitable for approaching the hierarchy problem) it is not necessary any negative brane tension in the compactification scheme. In this vein, it is argued that in the bulk f(R) gravity context, some types of warp factors may be useful for approaching the hierarchy problem and for evading the necessity of a negative brane tension in the compactification scheme.
