Cr resonant impurity for studies of band inversion and band offsets in IV-VI semiconductors

Understanding the electronic structure of transition-metal dopants in IV-VI semiconductors is critical for tuning their band structure. We analyze properties of Cr dopant in $Pb_{1-x}Sn_xTe$ and PbSe by magnetic and transport measurements, which are interpreted based on density functional calculations. We demonstrate that the pinning of the Fermi energy to the chromium resonant level occurs for both n-type and p-type $Pb_{1-x}Sn_xTe$ in the whole composition range. This enables us to determine the valence band and conduction band offsets at the PbTe/SnTe/PbSe heterointerfaces, which is important for designing high-prformance 2D transistors. Furthermore, the magnetic measurements reveal the presence of Cr ions in three charge states, $Cr^{3+}$, $Cr^{2+}$, and $Cr^{1+}$. The last one corresponds to the Cr dopants incorporated at the interstitial, and not the substitutional, sites. The measured concentrations of the interstitial and substitutional Cr are comparable.

Antiferromagnetic resonance in $α$-MnTe

Antiferromagnetic resonance in a bulk $α$-MnTe crystal is investigated using both frequency-domain and time-domain THz spectroscopy techniques. At low temperatures, an excitation at the photon energy of $(3.5\pm 0.1)$~meV is observed and identified as a magnon mode through its distinctive dependence on temperature and magnetic field. This behavior is reproduced using a simplified model for antiferromagnetic resonance in an easy-plane antiferromagnet. The results of our experiments, when compared to exchange constants established in the literature, allow us to extract the out-of-plane component of the single-ion magnetic anisotropy reaching $(40\pm10)$~$μ$eV.

PbTe/SnTe heterostructures -- candidate platform for studying spin-triplet superconductivity

This paper explores the potential for spin-triplet superconductivity in molecular beam epitaxy grown PbTe/SnTe semiconductor heterostructures. We present convincing evidence for spin-triplet pairing by soft point-contact spectroscopy experiments, using both spin-polarized and unpolarized electrons and additionally, by detailed analysis of the upper critical field, as inferred from the four probe resistance measurements. The experimental data are described in terms of the Anderson-Brinkman-Morel model of p-wave electron pairing. Our results confirm the predictions on strain-induced topological superconductivity by E.Tang and L. Fu (Nature Physics, 10, 964, 2014).

Coexistence of Anomalous Hall Effect and Weak Net Magnetization in Collinear Antiferromagnet MnTe

Anomalous Hall effect (AHE) plays important role in the rapidly developing field of antiferromagnetic spintronics. It has been recently discussed that it can be a feature of not only uncompensated magnetic systems but also in altermagnetic materials. Hexagonal MnTe belongs to this appealing group of compounds exhibiting AHE and is commonly perceived as magnetically compensated. Here, we demonstrate that bulk form of MnTe exhibits small but detectable magnetic moment correlating with hysteretic behaviour of the AHE. We formulate a phenomenological model which explains how this feature allows to create a disbalance between states with opposite Néel vector and prevent the AHE signal from averaging out to zero. Moreover, we show how the dependence of AHE on the Néel vector arises on microscopical level and highlight the differences in Berry curvature between magnetically compensated and uncompensated systems.

Antiferromagnetic Hysteresis above the Spin Flop Field

Magnetocrystalline anisotropy is essential in the physics of antiferromagnets and commonly treated as a constant, not depending on an external magnetic field. However, we demonstrate that in CoO the anisotropy should necessarily depend on the magnetic field, which is shown by the spin Hall magnetoresistance of the CoO $|$ Pt device. Below the Néel temperature CoO reveals a spin-flop transition at 240 K at 7.0 T, above which a hysteresis in the angular dependence of magnetoresistance unexpectedly persists up to 30 T. This behavior is shown to agree with the presence of the unquenched orbital momentum, which can play an important role in antiferromagnetic spintronics.

Hydrostatic pressure study of paramagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition in (Ga,Mn)As

The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the paramagnetic - ferromagnetic phase transition has been studied in (Ga,Mn)As. The variation of the Curie temperature (TC) with pressure was monitored by two transport methods: (1) - measurement of zero field resistivity versus temperature ρ(T), (2) - dependence on temperature of the Hall voltage hysteresis loop. Two specimens of different resistivity characteristics were examined. The measured pressure-induced changes of TC were relatively small (of the order of 1K/GPa) for both samples, however they were opposite for the two.
