Macro deformation twins in single-crystal aluminum

Deformation twinning in pure aluminum has been considered to be a unique property of nanostructured aluminum. A lingering mystery is whether deformation twinning occurs in coarse-grained or single-crystal aluminum, at scales beyond nanotwins. Here, we present the first experimental demonstration of macro deformation twins in single-crystal aluminum formed under ultrahigh strain-rate ($\sim$10$^6$ s$^{-1}$), large shear strain (200$\%$) via dynamic equal channel angular pressing. Deformation twinning is rooted in the rate dependences of dislocation motion and twinning, which are coupled, complementary processes during severe plastic deformation under ultrahigh strain rates.

Smoothing noisy spectroscopic data with many-knot spline method

In this paper, we present the development of a many-knot spline method derived to remove the statistical noise in the spectroscopic data. This method is an expansion of the B-spline method. Compared to the B-spline method, the many-knot spline method is significantly faster.

Least Squares Fitting of Low-Level Gamma-ray Spectra with B-Spline Basis Functions

In this paper, new methods for smoothing gamma-ray spectra measured by NaI detector are derived. Least squares fitting method with B-spline basis functions is used to reduce the influence of statistical fluctuations. The derived procedures are simple and automatic. The results show that this method is better than traditional method with a more complete reduction of staistical fluctuation.

Universal behavior of giant electroresistance in epitaxial La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 thin films

We report a giant resistance drop induced by dc electrical currents in La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 epitaxial thin films. Resistance of the patterned thin films decreases exponentially with increasing current and a maximum drop shows at the temperature of resistance peak Tp. Variation of resistance with current densities can be scaled below and above Tp, respectively. This work can be useful for the future applications of electroresistance.
