Constant curvature f(R) gravity minimally coupled with Yang-Mills field

We consider the particular class of f(R) gravities minimally coupled with Yang - Mills (YM) field in which the Ricci scalar =R_{0}= constant in all dimensions d\geq4. Even in this restricted class the spacetime has unlimited scopes determined by an equation of state of the form P_{eff}=ωρ. Depending on the distance from the origin (or horizon of a black hole) the state function ω(r) takes different values. It is observed that ω\rightarrow(1/3) (the ultra relativistic case in 4 - dimensions) and ω\rightarrow-1 (the cosmological constant) are the limiting values of our state function ω(r) in a spacetime centered by a black hole. This suggests that having a constant ω throughout spacetime around a charged black hole in f(R) gravity with constant scalar curvature is a myth.

Effect of the Born-Infeld Parameter in higher dimensional Hawking radiation

We show in detail that the Hawking temperature calculated from the surface gravity is in agreement with the result of exact semi-classical radiation spectrum for higher dimensional linear dilaton black holes in various theories. We extend the method derived first by Clément-Fabris-Marques for 4-dimensional linear dilaton black hole solutions to the higher dimensions in theories such as Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton, Einstein-Yang-Mills-Dilaton and Einstein-Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld-Dilaton. Similar to the Clément-Fabris-Marques results, it is proved that whenever an analytic solution is available to the massless scalar wave equation in the background of higher dimensional massive linear dilaton black holes, an exact computation of the radiation spectrum leads to the Hawking temperature T_{H} in the high frequency regime. The significance of the dimensionality on the value of T_{H} is shown, explicitly. For a chosen dimension, we demonstrate how higher dimensional linear dilaton black holes interpolate between the black hole solutions with Yang-Mills and electromagnetic fields by altering the Born-Infeld parameter in aspect of measurable quantity T_{H}. Finally, we explain the reason of, why massless higher dimensional linear dilaton black holes cannot radiate.

Specific dynamics for the Domain-Walls in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory

We consider Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) Lagrangian supplemented by double Liouville potentials to enrich our system and investigate the resulting dynamics. The general solution provides us alternative structures induced on the 3-dimensional domain wall (DW) moving in the 4-dimensional bulk. In particular, the local maximum in the potential suggests a maximum bounce (or onset for a contraction phase) of the 3-dimensional Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe on the DW. Depending on the choice of parameters we plot various cases of physical interest.

Colliding plane wave solution in F(R)=R^{N} gravity

We identify a region of F(R)=R^{N} gravity without external sources which is isometric to the spacetime of colliding plane waves (CPW). From the derived curvature sources, N (N>1) measures the strength (i.e. the charge) of the source. The analogy renders construction and collision of plane waves in F(R)=R^{N} gravity possible, as in the Einstein-Maxwell (EM) theory, simply because R=0. A plane wave in this type of gravity is equivalent to a Weyl curvature plus an electromagnetic energy-momentum-like term (i.e. 'source without source'). For N=1 we recover naturally the plane waves (and their collision) in Einstein's theory. Our aim is to find the effect of an expanding universe by virtue of F(R)=R^{N} on the colliding gravitational plane waves of Einstein.

Revisiting the charged BTZ metric in nonlinear electrodynamics

In contrast to its chargeless version the charged Banados, Taitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) metric in linear Maxwell electromagnetism is known to be singular at r=0. We show, by employing nonlinear electrodynamics that one obtains charged, extension of the BTZ metric with regular electric field. This we do by choosing a logarithmic Lagrangian for the nonlinear electrodynamics. A Theorem is proved on the existence of electric black holes and combining this results with a duality principle disproves the existence of magnetic black holes in 2+1-dimensions.

Regular charged black hole construction in 2+1 -dimensions

It is well-known that unlike its chargeless version the charged Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole solution in 2+1- dimensional spacetime is singular. We construct a charged, regular extension of the BTZ black hole solution by employing nonlinear Born-Infeld electrodynamics, supplemented with the Hoffmann term and gluing different spacetimes. The role of the latter term is to divide spacetime in a natural way into two regions by a circle and eliminate the inner singularity. Thermodynamics of such a black hole is investigated by Kaluza-Klein reduction to the 1+1-dimensional dilaton gravity.

Ground State H-Atom in Born-Infeld Theory

Within the context of Born-Infeld (BI) nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) we revisit the non-relativistic, spinless H-atom. The pair potential computed from the Born-Infeld equations is approximated by the Morse type potential with remarkable fit over the critical region where the convergence of both the short and long distance expansions slows down dramatically. The Morse potential is employed to determine both the ground state energy of the electron and the BI parameter.

Solutions for f(R) gravity coupled with electromagnetic field

In the presence of external, linear / nonlinear electromagnetic fields we integrate f(R) \sim R+2α\surd(R+const.) gravity equations. In contrast to their Einsteinian cousins the obtained black holes are non-asymptotically flat with a deficit angle. In proper limits we obtain from our general solution the global monopole solution in f(R) gravity. The scale symmetry breaking term adopted as the nonlinear electromagnetic source adjusts the sign of the mass of the resulting black hole to be physical.

2+1 dimensional magnetically charged solutions in Einstein - Power - Maxwell theory

We obtain a class of magnetically charged solutions in 2+1 dimensional Einstein - Power - Maxwell theory. In the linear Maxwell limit, such horizonless solutions are known to exist. We show that in 3D geometry, black hole solutions with magnetic charge does not exist even if it is sourced by power-Maxwell field. Physical properties of the solution with particular power k of the Maxwell field is investigated. The true timelike naked curvature singularity develops when k>1 which constitutes one of the striking effects of the power Maxwell field. For specific power parameter k, the occurrence of timelike naked singularity is analysed in quantum mechanical point of view. Quantum test fields obeying the Klein - Gordon and the Dirac equations are used to probe the singularity. It is shown that the class of static pure magnetic spacetime in the power Maxwell theory is quantum mechanically singular when it is probed with fields obeying Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations in the generic case.

Black hole solutions in f(R) gravity coupled with non-linear Yang-Mills field

It is shown that in the static, spherically symmetric spacetime the problem of metric f(R) gravity coupled with non-linear Yang-Mills (YM) field constructed from the Wu-Yang ansatz as source, can be solved in all dimensions. By non-linearity it is meant that the YM Lagrangian depends arbitrarily on its invariant. A particular form is considered to be in the power-law form with limit of the standard YM theory. The formalism admits black hole solutions with single or double horizons in which f(R) can be obtained, in general numerically. In 6-dimensional case we obtain an exact solution given by f(R)=\surdR gravity that couples with the YM field in a consistent manner.

d-dimensional non-asymptotically flat thin-shell wormholes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Dilaton gravity

Thin-shell wormholes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton (EYMD) gravity are considered. We show that a non-asymptotically flat (NAF) black hole solution of the d-dimensional EYMD theory provides stable thin-shell wormholes which are supported entirely by exotic matter. The presence of dilaton makes the spacetime naturally NAF, and with our conclusion it remains still open to construct wormholes supported by normal matter between two such spacetimes.

Higher dimensional thin-shell wormholes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We present thin-shell wormhole solutions in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Gauss-Bonnet (EYMGB) theory in higher dimensions d\geq5. Exact black hole solutions are employed for this purpose where the radius of thin-shell lies outside the event horizon. For some reasons the cases d=5 and d>5 are treated separately. The surface energy-momentum of the thin-shell creates surface pressures to resist against collapse and rendering stable wormholes possible. We test the stability of the wormholes against spherical perturbations through a linear energy-pressure relation and plot stability regions. Apart from this restricted stability we investigate the possibility of normal (i.e. non-exotic) matter which satisfies the energy conditions. For negative values of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) parameter we obtain such physical wormholes.

Simple system to measure the Earth's magnetic field

Our aim in this proposal is by using the Faraday's law of induction as a simple lecture demonstration to measure the Earth's magnetic field (B). This will also enable the students to learn about how electric power is generated from the rotational motion. Obviously the idea is not original, yet it may be attractive in the sense that no sophisticated devices are used.

Solution for Static, Spherically Symmetric Lovelock Gravity Coupled with Yang-Mills Hierarchy

The hierarchies of both Lovelock gravity and power-Yang-Mills field are combined through gravity in a single theory. In static, spherically symmetric ansatz exact particular integrals are obtained in all higher dimensions. The advantage of such hierarchies is the possibility of choosing coefficients, which are arbitrary otherwise, to cast solutions into tractable forms. To our knowledge the solutions constitute the most general spherically symmetric metrics that incorporate complexities both of Lovelock and Yang-Mills hierarchies within the common context. A large portion of our general class of solutions concern and addresses to black holes for which specific examples are given. Thermodynamical behaviors of the system is briefly discussed in particular dimensions.

Domain-Walls in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Bulk

We investigate the dynamics of a d-dimensional domain wall (DW) in a d+1-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) bulk. Exact effective potential induced by the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) term on the wall is derived. In the absence of the GB term we recover the familiar gravitational and anti-harmonic oscillator potentials. Inclusion of the GB correction gives rise to a minimum radius of bounce for the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe expanding with a negative pressure on the DW.

Theorem to generate Einstein-Non Linear Maxwell Fields

We present a theorem in d-dimensional static, spherically symmetric spacetime in generic Lovelock gravity coupled with a non-linear electrodynamic source to generate solutions. The theorem states that irrespective of the order of the Lovelock gravity and non-linear Maxwell (NLM) Lagrangian, for the pure electric field case the NLM equations are satisfied by virtue of the Einstein-Lovelock equations. Applications of the theorem, specifically to the study of black hole solutions in Chern-Simons (CS) theory is given. Radiating version of the theorem has been considered, which generalizes the Bonnor-Vaidya (BV) metric to the Lovelock gravity with a NLM field as a radiating source. We consider also the radiating power - Maxwell source (i.e. $\(F_{μν}F^{μν}\)^{q},$ $q=$ finely - tuned constant) within the context of Lovelock gravity.

Stability of thin-shell wormholes supported by ordinary matter in Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Recently in (Phys. Rev. D 76, 087502 (2007) and Phys. Rev. D 77, 089903(E) (2008)) a thin-shell wormhole has been introduced in 5-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet (EMGB) gravity which was supported by normal matter. We wish to consider this solution and investigate its stability. Our analysis shows that for the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) parameter $α<0,$ stability regions form for a narrow band of finely-tuned mass and charge. For the case $α>0$, we iterate once more that no stable, normal matter thin-shell wormhole exists.
