Coulomb and strong interactions in the final state of HBT correlations for Lévy type source functions

We present detailed calculations about the expected shape of two-pion Bose-Einstein (or HBT) correlations in high energy heavy ion collisions that include a realistic treatment of final state Coulomb interaction as well as strong interactions (dominated by s-wave scattering). We assume Lévy type source functions, a generalization that goes beyond the Gaussian approximation. Various recent experimental results found the use of such source types necessary to properly describe the shape of the measured correlation functions. We find that strong final state interactions may play an important role in the shape of the two-pion correlation functions, especially if one considers source parameters beyond the Gaussian HBT radii. Precise experimental determination of these source parameters (such as Lévy stability exponent, correlation strength, etc.) seems to require the inclusion of the treatment of strong interaction not just for heavier particles (e.g. protons, lambdas) but also in case of two-pion measurements.

A simple family of solutions of relativistic viscous hydrodynamics for fireballs with Hubble flow and ellipsoidal symmetry

New, analytic solutions of relativistic viscous hydrodynamics are presented, describing expanding fireballs with Hubble-like velocity profile and ellipsoidal symmetry, similar to fireballs created in heavy ion collisions. We find that with these specifications, one obtains solutions where the shear viscosity essentially does not influence the time evolution of the system, thus these solutions are particularly adept tools to study the effect of bulk viscosity alone, which always results in a slower decrease of energy density as well as temperature compared to the case of perfect fluid. We investigate different scenarios for the bulk viscosity and find qualitatively different effects on the time evolution which suggests that there is a possibility to infer the value of bulk viscosity from energy density and temperature measurements in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Simple solutions of fireball hydrodynamics for rotating and expanding triaxial ellipsoids and final state observables

We present a class of analytic solutions of non-relativistic fireball hydrodynamics for a fairly general class of equation of state. The presented solution describes the expansion of a triaxial ellipsoid that rotates around one of the principal axes. We calculate the hadronic final state observables such as single-particle spectra, directed, elliptic and third flows, as well as HBT correlations and corresponding radius parameters, utilizing simple analytic formulas. We call attention to the fact that the final tilt angle of the fireball, an important observable quantity, is not independent on the exact definition of it: one gets different angles from the single-particle spectra and from HBT measurements. Taken together, it is pointed out that these observables may be sufficient for the determination of the magnitude of the rotation of the fireball. We argue that observing this rotation and its dependence on collision energy would reveal the softness of the equation of state. Thus determining the rotation may be a powerful tool for the experimental search for the critical point in the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter.

An analytic hydrodynamical model of rotating 3D expansion in heavy-ion collisions

A new exact and analytic solution of non-relativistic fireball hydrodynamics is presented. It describes an expanding triaxial ellipsoid that rotates around one of its principal axes. The observables are calculated using simple analytic formulas. Azimuthal oscillation of the off-diagonal Bertsch-Pratt radii of Bose-Einstein correlations as well as rapidity dependent directed and third flow measurements provide means to determine the magnitude of the rotation of the fireball. Observing this rotation and its dependence on collision energy may lead to new information on the equation of state of the strongly interacting quark gluon plasma produced in high energy heavy ion collisions.

Observables and initial conditions for rotating and expanding fireballs with spheroidal symmetry

Utilizing a recently found class of exact, analytic rotating solutions of non-relativistic fireball hydrodynamics, we calculate analytically the single-particle spectra, the elliptic flows and two-particle Bose-Einstein correlation functions for rotating and expanding fireballs with spheroidal symmetry. We demonstrate, that rotation generates final state momentum anisotropies even for a spatially symmetric, spherical initial geometry of the fireball. The mass dependence of the effective temperatures, as well as the HBT radius parameters and the elliptic flow are shown to be sensitive not only to radial flow effects but also to the magnitude of the initial angular momentum.

A new family of exact and rotating solutions of fireball hydrodynamics

A new class of analytic, exact, rotating, self-similar and surprisingly simple solutions of non-relativistic hydrodynamics are presented for a three-dimensionally expanding, spheroidally symmetric fireball. These results generalize earlier, non-rotating solutions for ellipsoidally symmetric fireballs with directional, three-dimensional Hubble flows. The solutions are presented for a general class of equations of state that includes the lattice QCD equations of state and may feature inhomogeneous temperature and corresponding density profiles.

Exact solutions of relativistic perfect fluid hydrodynamics for a QCD equation of state

We generalize a previously known class of exact analytic solutions of relativistic perfect fluid hydrodynamics for the first time to arbitrary temperature-dependent Equation of State. We investigate special cases of this class of solutions, in particular, we present hydrodynamical solutions with the Equation of State determined from lattice QCD calculations. We discuss the phenomenological relevance of these solutions as well.

New simple explicit solutions of perfect fluid hydrodynamics and phase-space evolution

New exact solutions of relativistic perfect fluid hydrodynamics are described, including the first family of exact rotating solutions. The method used to search for them is an investigation of the relativistic hydrodynamical equations and the collisionless Boltzmann equation. Possible connections to the evolution of hot and dense partonic matter in heavy-ion collisions is discussed.

QCD EoS, initial conditions and final state from relativistic hydrodynamics in heavy-ion collisions

Some recent developments in exact results in relativistic hydrodynamics is reviewed. We discuss phenomenological applications in high-energy collisions and theoretical features of the solutions. We compare the method of numerical modelling to the strategy based on exact solutions. We argue that the efforts made and progress achieved in this seemingly purely theoretical topic is of interest for phenomenology.

A new class of simple and exact solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics is presented, and the consequences are explored in data analysis. The effects of longitudinal work and acceleration are taken into account in an advanced estimate of the initial energy density and the life-time of the reaction.

Search for Squeezed-Pair Correlations at RHIC

Squeezed correlations of particle-antiparticle pairs, also called Back-to-Back Correlations, are predicted to appear if the hadron masses are modified in the hot and dense hadronic medium formed in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. Although well-established theoretically, the squeezed-particle correlations have not yet been searched for experimentally in high energy hadronic or heavy ion collisions, clearly requiring optimized forms to experimentally search for this effect. Within a non-relativistic treatment developed earlier we show that one promising way to search for the BBC signal is to look into the squeezed correlation function of pairs of phi-mesons at RHIC energies, plotted in terms of the average momentum of the pair, K12=(k1+k2)/2. This variable's modulus, 2|K12|, is the non-relativistic limit of the variable Q_bbc, introduced herewith. The squeezing effects on the HBT correlation function are also discussed.

Similar final states from different initial states using new exact solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics

We present exact, analytic and simple solutions of relativistic perfect fluid hydrodynamics. The solutions allow us to calculate the rapidity distribution of the particles produced at the freeze-out, and fit them to the measured rapidity distribution data. We also give an advanced estimation of the energy density reached in heavy ion collisions, and an improved estimation of the life-time of the reaction.

Detailed description of accelerating, simple solutions of relativistic perfect fluid hydrodynamics

In this paper we describe in full details a new family of recently found exact solutions of relativistic, perfect fluid dynamics. With an ansatz, which generalizes the well-known Hwa-Bjorken solution, we obtain a wide class of new exact, explicit and simple solutions, which have a remarkable advantage as compared to presently known exact and explicit solutions: they do not lack acceleration. They can be utilized for the description of the evolution of the matter created in high energy heavy ion collisions. Because these solutions are accelerating, they provide a more realistic picture than the well-known Hwa-Bjorken solution, and give more insight into the dynamics of the matter. We exploit this by giving an advanced simple estimation of the initial energy density of the produced matter in high energy collisions, which takes acceleration effects (i.e. the work done by the pressure and the modified change of the volume elements) into account. We also give an advanced estimation of the life-time of the reaction. Our new solutions can also be used to test numerical hydrodynamical codes reliably. In the end, we also give an exact, 1+1 dimensional, relativistic hydrodynamical solution, where the initial pressure and velocity profile is arbitrary, and we show that this general solution is stable for perturbations.

Multi-boson correlations using wave-packets II

We investigate the analytically solvable pion-laser model, and its generalization to arbitrary multiplicity distributions. Although this kind of extension of the model is possible, the pion laser model in its original form is unique: it is the only model in its class that has an analytic solution.

A New Family of Simple Solutions of Perfect Fluid Hydrodynamics

A new class of accelerating, exact and explicit solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics is found - more than 50 years after the previous similar result, the Landau-Khalatnikov solution. Surprisingly, the new solutions have a simple form, that generalizes the renowned, but accelerationless, Hwa-Bjorken solution. These new solutions take into account the work done by the fluid elements on each other, and work not only in one temporal and one spatial dimensions, but also in arbitrary number of spatial dimensions. They are applied here for an advanced estimation of initial energy density and life-time of the reaction in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions.

Accelerating Solutions of Perfect Fluid Hydrodynamics for Initial Energy Density and Life-Time Measurements in Heavy Ion Collisions

A new class of accelerating, exact, explicit and simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics is presented. Since these new solutions yield a finite rapidity distribution, they lead to an advanced estimate of the initial energy density and life-time of high energy heavy ion reactions. Accelerating solutions are also given for spherical expansions in arbitrary number of spatial dimensions.
