Calculations of $^{8}$He+p Elastic Cross Sections Using Microscopic Optical Potential

An approach to calculate microscopic optical potential (OP) with the real part obtained by a folding procedure and with the imaginary part inherent in the high-energy approximation (HEA) is applied to study the $^8$He+p elastic scattering data at energies of tens of MeV/nucleon (MeV/N). The neutron and proton density distributions obtained in different models for $^{8}$He are utilized in the calculations of the differential cross sections. The role of the spin-orbit potential is studied. Comparison of the calculations with the available experimental data on the elastic scattering differential cross sections at beam energies of 15.7, 26.25, 32, 66 and 73 MeV/N is performed. The problem of the ambiguities of the depths of each component of the optical potential is considered by means of the imposed physical criterion related to the known behavior of the volume integrals as functions of the incident energy. It is shown also that the role of the surface absorption is rather important, in particular for the lowest incident energies (e.g., 15.7 and 26.25 MeV/nucleon).

Superscaling and Charge-Changing Neutrino Scattering from Nuclei in the $\boldsymbol Δ$-Region beyond the Relativistic Fermi Gas Model

The superscaling analysis using the scaling function obtained within the coherent density fluctuation model is extended to calculate charge-changing neutrino and antineutrino scattering on $^{12}$C at energies from 1 to 2 GeV not only in the quasielastic but also in the delta excitation region. The results are compared with those obtained using the scaling functions from the relativistic Fermi gas model and from the superscaling analysis of inclusive scattering of electrons from nuclei.

Nuclear skin emergence in Skyrme deformed Hartree-Fock calculations

A study of the charge and matter densities and the corresponding rms radii for even-even isotopes of Ni, Kr, and Sn has been performed in the framework of deformed self-consistent mean field Skyrme HF+BCS method. The resulting charge radii and neutron skin thicknesses of these nuclei are compared with available experimental data, as well as with other theoretical predictions. The formation of a neutron skin, which manifests itself in an excess of neutrons at distances greater than the radius of the proton distribution, is analyzed in terms of various definitions. Formation of a proton skin is shown to be unlikely. The effects of deformation on the neutron skins in even-even deformed nuclei far from the stability line are discussed.

Calculations of $^{6}$He+p elastic scattering cross sections using folding approach and high-energy approximation for the optical potential

Calculations of microscopic optical potentials (OP's) (their real and imaginary parts) are performed to analyze the $^6$He+p elastic scattering data at a few tens of MeV/nucleon (MeV/N). The OP's and the cross sections are calculated using three model densities of $^6$He. Effects of the regularization of the NN forces and their dependence on nuclear density are investigated. Also, the role of the spin-orbit terms and of the non-linearity in the calculations of the OP's, as well as effects of their renormalization are studied. The sensitivity of the cross sections to the nuclear densities was tested and one of them that gives a better agreement with the data was chosen.

Superscaling and Neutral Current Quasielastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering beyond the Relativistic Fermi Gas Model

The superscaling analysis is extended to include quasielastic (QE) scattering via the weak neutral current of neutrinos and antineutrinos from nuclei. The scaling function obtained within the coherent density fluctuation model (used previously in calculations of QE inclusive electron and charge-changing (CC) neutrino scattering) is applied to neutral current neutrino and antineutrino scattering with energies of 1 GeV from $^{12}$C with a proton and neutron knockout (u-channel inclusive processes). The results are compared with those obtained using the scaling function from the relativistic Fermi gas model and the scaling function as determined from the superscaling analysis (SuSA) of QE electron scattering.

Superscaling in dilute Fermi gas and its relation to general properties of the nucleon momentum distribution in nuclei

The superscaling observed in inclusive electron scattering is described within the dilute Fermi gas model with interaction between the particles. The comparison with the relativistic Fermi gas (RFG) model without interaction shows an improvement in the explanation of the scaling function $f(ψ')$ in the region $ψ' < -1$, where the RFG result is $f(ψ') = 0$. It is found that the behavior of $f(ψ')$ for $ψ' < -1$ depends on the particular form of the general power-law asymptotics of the momentum distribution $n(k)\sim 1/ k^{4+m}$ at large $k$. The best agreement with the empirical scaling function is found for $m\simeq 4.5$ in agreement with the asymptotics of $n(k)$ in the coherent density fluctuation model where $m = 4$. Thus, superscaling gives information about the asymptotics of $n(k)$ and the NN forces.

Superscaling analysis of inclusive electron scattering and its extension to charge-changing neutrino-nucleus cross sections beyond the relativistic Fermi gas approach

Superscaling analyses of inclusive electron scattering from nuclei are extended from the quasielastic processes to the delta excitation region. The calculations of $(e,e^\prime)$ cross sections for the target nucleus $^{12}$C at various incident electron energies are performed using scaling functions $f(ψ^{\prime})$ obtained in approaches going beyond the mean-field approximation, such as the coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM) and the one based on the light-front dynamics (LFD) method. The results are compared with those obtained using the relativistic Fermi gas (RFG) model and the extended RFG model (ERFG). Our method utilizes in an equivalent way both basic nuclear quantities, density and momentum distributions, showing their role for the scaling and superscaling phenomena. The approach is extended to consider scaling function for medium and heavy nuclei with $Z\neq N$ for which the proton and neutron densities are not similar. The asymmetry of the CDFM quasielastic scaling function is introduced, simulating in a phenomenological way the effects which violate the symmetry for $ψ^{\prime}\geq 0$ including the role of the final-state interaction (FSI). The superscaling properties of the electron scattering are used to predict charge-changing neutrino-nucleus cross sections at energies from 1 to 2 GeV. A comparison with the results of the ERFG model is made. The analyses make it possible to gain information about the nucleon correlation effects on both local density and nucleon momentum distributions.

Scaling Functions and Superscaling in Medium and Heavy Nuclei

The scaling function $f(ψ')$ for medium and heavy nuclei with $Z\neq N$ for which the proton and neutron densities are not similar is constructed within the coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM) as a sum of the proton and neutron scaling functions. The latter are calculated in the cases of $^{62}$Ni, $^{82}$Kr, $^{118}$Sn, and $^{197}$Au nuclei on the basis of the corresponding proton and neutron density distributions which are obtained in deformed self-consistent mean-field Skyrme HF+BCS method. The results are in a reasonable agreement with the empirical data from the inclusive electron scattering from nuclei showing superscaling for negative values of $ψ'$, including those smaller than -1. This is an improvement over the relativistic Fermi gas (RFG) model predictions where $f(ψ')$ becomes abruptly zero for $ψ'\leq -1$. It is also an improvement over the CDFM calculations made in the past for nuclei with $Z\neq N$ assuming that the neutron density is equal to the proton one and using only the phenomenological charge density.

Charge and matter distributions and form factors of light, medium and heavy neutron-rich nuclei

Results of charge form factors calculations for several unstable neutron-rich isotopes of light, medium and heavy nuclei (He, Li, Ni, Kr, Sn) are presented and compared to those of stable isotopes in the same isotopic chain. For the lighter isotopes (He and Li) the proton and neutron densities are obtained within a microscopic large-scale shell-model, while for heavier ones Ni, Kr and Sn the densities are calculated in deformed self-consistent mean-field Skyrme HF+BCS method. We also compare proton densities to matter densities together with their rms radii and diffuseness parameter values. Whenever possible comparison of form factors, densities and rms radii with available experimental data is also performed. Calculations of form factors are carried out both in plane wave Born approximation (PWBA) and in distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA). These form factors are suggested as predictions for the future experiments on the electron-radioactive beam colliders where the effect of the neutron halo or skin on the proton distributions in exotic nuclei is planned to be studied and thereby the various theoretical models of exotic nuclei will be tested.

Superscaling, Scaling Functions and Nucleon Momentum Distributions in Nuclei

The scaling functions $f(ψ')$ and $F(y)$ from the $ψ'$- and $y$-scaling analyses of inclusive electron scattering from nuclei are explored within the coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM). In addition to the CDFM formulation in which the local density distribution is used, we introduce a new equivalent formulation of the CDFM based on the one-body nucleon momentum distribution (NMD). Special attention is paid to the different ways in which the excitation energy of the residual system is taken into account in $y$- and $ψ'$-scaling. Both functions, $f(ψ')$ and $F(y)$, are calculated using different NMD's and are compared with the experimental data for a wide range of nuclei. The good description of the data for $y < 0$ and $ψ' < 0$ (including $ψ'< -1$) makes it possible to show the sensitivity of the calculated scaling functions to the peculiarities of the NMD's in different regions of momenta. It is concluded that the existing data on the $ψ'$- and $y$-scaling are informative for the NMD's at momenta not larger than $2.0 ÷2.5$ fm$^{-1}$. The CDFM allows us to study simultaneously on the same footing the role of both basic quantities, the momentum and density distributions, for the description of scaling and superscaling phenomena in nuclei.

Superscaling in Nuclei: A Search for Scaling Function Beyond the Relativistic Fermi Gas Model

We construct a scaling function $f(ψ^{\prime})$ for inclusive electron scattering from nuclei within the Coherent Density Fluctuation Model (CDFM). The latter is a natural extension to finite nuclei of the Relativistic Fermi Gas (RFG) model within which the scaling variable $ψ^{\prime}$ was introduced by Donnelly and collaborators. The calculations show that the high-momentum components of the nucleon momentum distribution in the CDFM and their similarity for different nuclei lead to quantitative description of the superscaling in nuclei. The results are in good agreement with the experimental data for different transfer momenta showing superscaling for negative values of $ψ^{\prime}$, including those smaller than -1.

Charge density distributions and related form factors in neutron-rich light exotic nuclei

Charge form factors corresponding to proton density distributions in exotic nuclei, such as $^{6,8}$He, $^{11}$Li, $^{17,19}$B and $^{14}$Be are calculated and compared. The results can be used as tests of various theoretical models for the exotic nuclei structure in possible future experiments using a colliding electron-exotic nucleus storage ring. The result of such a comparison would show the effect of the neutron halo or skin on the proton distributions in exotic nuclei.

Structural Studies of Many-Body Systems and (e,e'p) Reaction Cross Sections

Studies of one-body density matrices (ODM) are performed in various correlation methods, such as the Jastrow method, the correlated basis function method, the Green's function method and the generator coordinate method aiming to extract the absolute spectroscopic factors and overlap functions (OF) for one-nucleon removal reactions from the ODM of the target nucleus. The advantage of this method is that it avoids the complicated task of calculating the total nuclear spectral function. The procedure for extracting bound-state OF's has been applied to make calculations of the cross sections of the $(e,e^{\prime}p)$ reaction on the closed-shell nuclei $^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca as well as on the open-shell nucleus $^{32}$S consistently (using the same OF's) with the cross sections of $(p,d)$ and $(γ,p)$ reactions on the same nuclei. The analyses of the reaction cross sections and the spectroscopic factors and the comparison with the experimental data show the particular importance of these OF's, since they contain effects of nucleon correlations (short-range and/or long-range) which are accounted for to different extent in the theoretical methods considered.

Semiclassical Distorted Wave Model Analysis of Backward Proton Emission from $(p,p^{\prime}x)$ Reactions at Intermediate Energies

A semiclassical distorted wave (SCDW) model with Wigner transform of one-body density matrix is presented for multistep direct $(p,p^{\prime}x)$ reactions to the continuum. The model uses Wigner distribution functions obtained in methods which include nucleon-nucleon correlations to a different extent, as well as Woods-Saxon (WS) single-particle wave function. The higher momentum components of target nucleons that play a crucial role in reproducing the high-energy part of the backward proton spectra are properly taken into account. This SCDW model is applied to analyses of multistep direct processes in $^{12}$C$(p,p^{\prime}x)$, $^{40}$Ca$(p,p^{\prime}x)$ and $^{90}$Zr$(p,p^{\prime}x)$ in the incident energy range of 150--392 MeV. The double differential cross sections are calculated up to three-step processes. The calculated angular distributions are in good agreement with the experimental data, in particular at backward angles where the previous SCDW calculations with the WS single-particle wave function showed large underestimation. It is found that the result with the Wigner distribution function based on the coherent density fluctuation model provides overall better agreement with the experimental data over the whole emission energies.

Jastrow-type calculations of one-nucleon removal reactions on open $s$-$d$ shell nuclei

Single-particle overlap functions and spectroscopic factors are calculated on the basis of Jastrow-type one-body density matrices of open-shell nuclei constructed by using a factor cluster expansion. The calculations use the relationship between the overlap functions corresponding to bound states of the $(A-1)$-particle system and the one-body density matrix for the ground state of the $A$-particle system. In this work we extend our previous analyses of reactions on closed-shell nuclei by using the resulting overlap functions for the description of the cross sections of $(p,d)$ reactions on the open $s$-$d$ shell nuclei $^{24}$Mg, $^{28}$Si and $^{32}$S and of $^{32}$S$(e,e^{\prime}p)$ reaction. The relative role of both shell structure and short-range correlations incorporated in the correlation approach on the spectroscopic factors and the reaction cross sections is pointed out.

Y-Scaling Analysis of the Deuteron Within the Light-Front Dynamics Method

The concept of relativistic scaling is applied to describe the most recent data from inclusive electron-deuteron scattering at large momentum transfer. We calculate the asymptotic scaling function f(y) of the deuteron using its relationship with the nucleon momentum distribution. The latter is obtained in the framework of the relativistic light-front dynamics (LFD) method, in which the deuteron is described by six invariant functions f_{i} (i=1,...,6) instead of two (S and D waves) in the nonrelativistic case. Comparison of the LFD asymptotic scaling function with other calculations using $S$ and $D$ waves corresponding to various nucleon-nucleon potentials, as well as with the Bethe-Salpeter result is made. It is shown that for |y|> 400 MeV/c the differences between the LFD and the nonrelativistic scaling functions become larger.

Generator coordinate method calculations of one-nucleon removal reactions on $^{40}$Ca

An approach to the Generator Coordinate Method (GCM) using Skyrme-type effective forces and Woods-Saxon construction potential is applied to calculate the single-particle proton and neutron overlap functions in $^{40}$Ca. The relationship between the bound-state overlap functions and the one-body density matrix has been used. These overlap functions are applied to calculate the cross sections of one-nucleon removal reactions such as ($e,e'p$), ($γ,p$) and ($p,d$) on $^{40}$Ca on the same theoretical footing. A consistent description of data for the different reactions is achieved. The shapes of the experimental cross sections for transitions to the $3/2^{+}$ ground state and the first $1/2^{+}$ excited state of the residual nuclei are well reproduced by the overlap functions obtained within the GCM. An additional spectroscopic factor accounting for correlations not included in the overlap function must be applied to the calculated results to reproduce the size of the experimental cross sections.

Generator Coordinate Method Calculations for Ground and First Excited Collective States in $^{4}$He, $^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca Nuclei

The main characteristics of the ground and, in particular, the first excited monopole state in the $^{4}$He, $^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca nuclei are studied within the generator coordinate method using Skyrme-type effective forces and three construction potentials, namely the harmonic-oscillator, the square-well and Woods-Saxon potentials. Calculations of density distributions, radii, nucleon momentum distributions, natural orbitals, occupation numbers and depletions of the Fermi sea, as well as of pair density and momentum distributions are carried out. A comparison of these quantities for both ground and first excited monopole states with the available empirical data and with the results of other theoretical methods are given and discussed in detail.
