Squeezed condensate of gluons and the mass of the eta'

The relation between the large mass of the $η'$ and the structure of the gluon vacuum via the $U_A(1)$ anomaly is discussed. A squeezed gluon vacuum is considered as an alternative to existing models. Considering Witten's formula for the $η_0$ mass we show that the contact term can give a sizable contribution and relate it to the physical gluon condensate. The values of the gluon condensate obtained through this relation are compared with the value by Shifman, Vainshtein and Zakharov and the recent update values by Narison.

Excited pions, rho- and omega-mesons and their decays in a chiral SU(2) x SU(2) Lagrangian

A chiral SU(2) x SU(2) Lagrangian containing, besides the usual meson fields, their first radial excitations is considered. The Lagrangian is derived by bosonization of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio quark model with separable non-local interactions, with form factors corresponding to 3-dimensional ground and excited state wave functions. The spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry is governed by the NJL gap equation. The first radial excitations of the pions, rho-and omega-mesons are described with the help of two form factors. The weak decay constant F_pi' is calculated. The values for the decay widths of the processes rho -> 2 pi, pi' -> rho pi, rho' -> 2 pi, rho' -> omega pi and omega' -> rho pi are obtained in agreement with the experimental data.

The pseudoscalar and vector excited mesons in the U(3)*U(3) chiral model

A chiral U(3)*U(3) Lagrangian containing, besides the usual meson fields, their first radial excitations is constructed. The first radial excitations of the pions, kaons and vector meson nonet are described with the help of five different form factors. Each form factor contains only one arbitrary parameter. The masses of these meson states and the weak decay constants $F_{π'}, F_K and F_{K'}$ are calculated.

Squeezed condensate of gluons and $η-η'$ mass difference

We consider a mechanism to create the $η- η'$ mass difference by the gluon anomaly in a squeezed vacuum. We find that the mass shift of the $η_0$ governing this mass difference is determined by the magnetic part of the gluon condensate. For the squeezed vacuum this magnetic part coincides with the total gluon condensate, so that we get a relation between the gluon condensate and the mass shift of the $η_0$ as a function of the strong coupling constant $α_s$. The values of the gluon condensate obtained through this relation are compared with the value by Shifman, Vainshtein and Zakharov and the recent update values by Narison.

A chiral Lagrangian for excited pions

We construct a chiral Lagrangian containing besides the usual pion field (pi) also its first radial excitation (pi'). The Lagrangian is derived by bosonization of a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio quark model with separable non-local interactions, with form factors corresponding to 3-dimensional ground and excited state wave functions. Chiral symmetry breaking is governed by the NJL gap equation. The effective Lagrangian for pi- and pi'-mesons shows the decoupling of the Goldstone pion and the vanishing of the pi' leptonic decay constant, f_pi', in the chiral limit, as required by axial current conservation. We derive the excited states' contribution to the axial current of the model using Noether's theorem. For finite pion mass and pi' masses in the range of 750 MeV -- 1300 MeV, f_pi' / f_pi is found to be of the order of 1 percent.

Kaon polarizability in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model at zero and finite temperature

Using recent data for the decays $f_0 \to γγ$, $f_0 \to ππ$, we determine the mixing angle of scalar mesons in a chiral quark $σ$-model. This value is employed to analyze of the kaon polarizability. It is shown that pole diagrams from intermediate scalar mesons and their mixing angle significantly affect the electromagnetic polarizability of charged and neutral kaons. Our results are compared with other models and the results of the chiral symmetry limit. The temperature dependence of the kaon polarizabilities is investigated.

1/N_c- expansion of the quark condensate at finite temperature

Previously the quark and meson properties in a many quark system at finite temperature have been studied within effective QCD approaches in the Hartree approximation. In the present paper we consider the influence of the mesonic correlations on the quark self-energy and on the quark propagator within a systematic $1/N_c$- expansion. Using a general separable ansatz for the nonlocal interaction, we derive a selfconsistent equation for the $1/N_c$ correction to the quark propagator. For a separable model with cut-off formfactor, we obtain a decrease of the condensate of the order of 20\% at zero temperature. A lowering the critical temperature for the onset of the chiral restoration transition due to the inclusion of mesonic correlations is obtained what seems to be closer to the results from lattice calculations.

Bogoliubov condensation of gluons and spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking in QCD

The problem of the gluonic quasiparticle excitations in QCD is considered under the aspect of the condensation of gluon pairs in the ''squeezed'' vacuum. The present approach is a field theoretical generalization of the Bogoliubov model which successfully reproduced the Landau spectrum in the microscopic theory of superfluidity. We construct a gauge invariant QCD Hamiltonian by formally solving the Gauss equation such that the physical variables are separated by a non-Abelian projection operator, instead of fixing a gauge. By using Dirac quantization we show that the Bogoliubov condensation of gluon pairs destroys this projection operator, and the spontaneous appearance of a gluon mass is accompanied by a longitudinal component for the gluon field in correspondence with the relativistic covariance. Gauge symmetry is broken spontaneously since the gauge invariance of the Hamiltonian is not shared by the vacuum. The squeezed vacuum in the present model is characterized by one free parameter related to the contraction of a pair of zero momentum gluon fields which is fixed from the difference of the $η'$ and the $η$ - meson masses ($ U(1)$-problem) and results in a value for the gluon condensate which is in good agreement with the value obtained by Shifman, Vainshtein and Zakharov.
