First Synchrotron Injection Attempt into The SuperKEKB High Energy Ring

A synchrotron injection scheme for the SuperKEKB electron high-energy ring (HER) was implemented and experimentally evaluated as the first attempt with a top-up injection during beam collisions. The lattice at the HER injection point was configured to provide a large horizontal dispersion of -1.6 m, and the injection beam energy was accordingly set to +0.6% above the ring energy. Since the beam extraction system is located near the injection point, the optics design was constrained to ensure compatibility with its requirements. A systematic tuning procedure of the injection parameters has been established with turn-by-turn BPMs(TbT-BPMs) in the ring, by which the betatron amplitude of the injected beam was successfully removed. Using optimized ring optics, synchrotron injection into the HER was successfully demonstrated, followed by the establishment of stable collisions and the production of luminosity.

Self-shielding effect of a single phase liquid xenon detector for direct dark matter search

Liquid xenon is a suitable material for a dark matter search. For future large scale experiments, single phase detectors are attractive due to their simple configuration and scalability. However, in order to reduce backgrounds, they need to fully rely on liquid xenon's self-shielding property. A prototype detector was developed at Kamioka Observatory to establish vertex and energy reconstruction methods and to demonstrate the self-shielding power against gamma rays from outside of the detector. Sufficient self-shielding power for future experiments was obtained.

Compensation of the Crossing Angle with Crab Cavities at KEKB

Crab cavities have been installed in the KEKB B--Factory rings to compensate the crossing angle at the collision point and thus increase luminosity. The beam operation with crab crossing has been done since February 2007. This is the first experience with such cavities in colliders or storage rings. The crab cavities have been working without serious issues. While higher specific luminosity than the geometrical gain has been achieved, further study is necessary and under way to reach the prediction of simulation.

Numerical Renormalization Group at Criticality

We apply a recently developed numerical renormalization group, the corner-transfer-matrix renormalization group (CTMRG), to 2D classical lattice models at their critical temperatures. It is shown that the combination of CTMRG and the finite-size scaling analysis gives two independent critical exponents.

Density Fluctuations in Traffic Flow

Density fluctuations in traffic current are studied by computer simulations using the deterministic coupled map lattice model on a closed single-lane circuit. By calculating a power spectral density of temporal density fluctuations at a local section, we find a power-law behavior, $\sim 1/f^{1.8}$, on the frequency $f$, in non-congested flow phase. The distribution of the headway distance $h$ also shows the power law like $\sim 1/h^{3.0} $ at the same time. The power law fluctuations are destroyed by the occurence of the traffic jam.

Dynamical Phase Transition in One Dimensional Traffic Flow Model with Blockage

Effects of a bottleneck in a linear trafficway is investigated using a simple cellular automaton model. Introducing a blockage site which transmit cars at some transmission probability into the rule-184 cellular automaton, we observe three different phases with increasing car concentration: Besides the free phase and the jam phase, which exist already in the pure rule-184 model, the mixed phase of these two appears at intermediate concentration with well-defined phase boundaries. This mixed phase, where cars pile up behind the blockage to form a jam region, is characterized by a constant flow. In the thermodynamic limit, we obtain the exact expressions for several characteristic quantities in terms of the car density and the transmission rate. These quantities depend strongly on the system size at the phase boundaries; We analyse these finite size effects based on the finite-size scaling.
