The energy level structure of a variety of one-dimensional confining potentials and the effects of a local singular perturbation

Motivated by current interest in quantum confinement potentials, especially with respect to the Stark spectroscopy of new types of quantum wells, we examine several novel one-dimensional singular oscillators. A Green function method is applied, the construction of the necessary resolvents is reviewed and several new ones are introduced. In addition, previous work on the singular harmonic oscillator model, introduced by Avakian et al. is reproduced to verify the method and results. A novel features is the determination of the spectra of asymmetric hybrid linear and quadratic potentials. As in previous work, the singular perturbations are modeled by delta functions.

Dynamic spectral aspects of interparticle correlation

Time-dependent quantities are calculated in the linear response limit for a correlated one dimensional model atom driven by an external quadrupolar time-dependent field. Besides the analysis of the time-evolving energy change in the correlated two-particle system, and orthogonality of initial and final states, Mehler's formula is applied in order to derive a point-wise decomposition of the time-dependent one-matrix in terms of time-dependent occupation numbers and time-dependent orthonormal, natural orbitals. Based on such exact spectral decomposition on the time domain, Rényi's entropy is also investigated. Considering the structure of the exact time-dependent one-matrix, an independent-particle model is defined from it which contains exact information on the single-particle probability density and probability current. The resulting noninteracting auxiliary state is used to construct an effective potential and discuss its applicability.

Quantum Mechanics of a Simulated Tri-hydrogen Dication

The Schroedinger equation is solved exactly within the Born-Oppenheimer approximation for a simulacrum of the $H_3^{++}$-ion. The ion is assumed to form an isosceles triangle and the ground state energy is obtained over its geometrical parameter space. No multi-center molecular integrations are required. We indicate how the approximation to the actual molecule can be improved systematically.

A sum rule for the critical zeros of $ζ(s)$

The two-parameter series over the critical zeros of the Riemann Zeta function $Re\sum_ρ\frac{x^{(ρ-a)/4a}}{\sqrt{ρ-a}\sinh[\fracπ{2}\sqrt{\frac{ρ-a}{a}}]ζ'(ρ)}$ is evaluated in terms of $ζ(s)$ on the real axis.

The Laplace equation for the exterior of the Hankel contour and novel identities for hypergeometric functions

By employing conformal mappings, it is possible to express the solution of certain boundary value problems for the Laplace equation in terms of a single integral involving the given boundary data. We show that such explicit formulae can be used to obtain novel identities for special functions. A convenient tool for deriving this type of identities is the so-called \emph{global relation}, which has appeared recently in a wide range of boundary value problems. As a concrete application, we analyze the Neumann boundary value problem for the Laplace equation in the exterior of the so-called Hankel contour, which is the contour that appears in the definition of both the gamma and the Riemann zeta functions. By utilizing the explicit solution of this problem, we derive a plethora of novel identities involving the hypergeometric function.

A Generalized Apery Series

The inverse central binomial series {equation}S_k(z)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{n^k z^n}{\binom{2n}{n}}{equation} popularized by Apéry and Lehmer is evaluated for positive integers $k$ along with the asymptotic behavior for large $k$. It is found that value $z=2$, as commented on by D. H. Lehmer provides a unique relation to $π$.

Lehmer's Interesting Series

The series $$S_k(z)=\sum_{m=1}^{\infty}\frac{m^kz^m}{(\{array}{c} 2m m \{array})}$$ is evaluated in non-recursive closed and analytically continued beyond its domain of convergence $0\le |z|<4$ for $k=0,1,2,\...$. From this we provide a firm basis for Lehmer's observation that $π$ emerges from the limiting behavior of $S_k(2)$ as $k\rightarrow\infty$.

The Cauchy-Schlomilch transformation

The Cauchy-Schlömilch transformation states that for a function $f$ and $a, \, b > 0$, the integral of $f(x^{2})$ and $af((ax-bx^{-1})^{2}$ over the interval $[0, \infty)$ are the same. This elementary result is used to evaluate many non-elementary definite integrals, most of which cannot be obtained by symbolic packages. Applications to probability distributions is also given.

Random sequential adsorption model of damage and crack accumulation: Exact one-dimensional results

The random sequential adsorption (RSA) model is modified to describe damage and crack accumulation. The exclusion for object deposition (for damaged region formation) is not for the whole object, as in the standard RSA, but only for the initial point (or higher-dimensional defect) from which the damaged region or crack initiates. The one-dimensional variant of the model is solved exactly.

Elliptic integral evaluations of Bessel moments

We record what is known about the closed forms for various Bessel function moments arising in quantum field theory, condensed matter theory and other parts of mathematical physics. More generally, we develop formulae for integrals of products of six or fewer Bessel functions. In consequence, we are able to discover and prove closed forms for $c_{n,k}:=\int_0^\infty t^k K_0^n(t) {\rm d}t$ with integers $n=1,2,3,4$ and $k\ge0$, obtaining new results for the even moments $c_{3,2k}$ and $c_{4,2k}$. We also derive new closed forms for the odd moments $s_{n,2k+1}:=\int_0^\infty t^{2k+1}I_0^{}(t) K_0^{n-1}(t) {\rm d}t$ with $n=3,4$ and for $t_{n,2k+1}:=\int_0^\infty t^{2k+1}I_0^2(t) K_0^{n-2}(t) {\rm d}t$ with $n=5$, relating the latter to Green functions on hexagonal, diamond and cubic lattices. We conjecture the values of $s_{5,2k+1}$, make substantial progress on the evaluation of $c_{5,2k+1}$, $s_{6,2k+1}$ and $t_{6,2k+1}$ and report more limited progress regarding $c_{5,2k}$, $c_{6,2k+1}$ and $c_{6,2k}$. In the process, we obtain 8 conjectural evaluations, each of which has been checked to 1200 decimal places. One of these lies deep in 4- dimensional quantum field theory and two are probably provable by delicate combinatorics. There remains a hard core of five conjectures whose proofs would be most instructive, to mathematicians and physicists alike.
