Fragmentation production of doubly heavy baryons

Baryons with a single heavy quark are being studied experimentally at present. Baryons with two units of heavy flavor will be abundantly produced not only at future colliders, but also at existing facilities. In this paper we study the production via heavy quark fragmentation of baryons containing two heavy quarks at the Tevatron, the LHC, HERA, and the NLC. The production rate is woefully small at HERA and at the NLC, but significant at $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ machines. We present distributions in various kinematical variables in addition to the integrated cross sections at hadron colliders.

Spectra of baryons containing two heavy quarks

The spectra of baryons containing two heavy quarks test the form of the $QQ$ potential through the spin-averaged masses and hyperfine splittings. The mass splittings in these spectra are calculated in a nonrelativistic potential model and the effects of varying the potential studied. The simple description in terms of light quark and pointlike diquark is not yet valid for realistic heavy quark masses.

Testing CP Properties of Higgs Bosons

Possibilites for measuring the $J^{PC}$ quantum numbers of the Higgs particle through its interactions with gauge bosons and with fermions are discussed. Observables which indicate CP violation in these couplings are also identified.

Prospects of Measuring the Parity of Higgs Particles

We analyze the prospects of measuring the parity of Higgs particles in the Standard Model and its supersymmetric extensions. Higgs decays are discussed in this context as well as production processes including, in particular, the fusion of Higgs particles in linearly polarized photon--photon collisions.

Probing the Scalar Sector in $e^+ e^- \rightarrow f \bar{f} H$

We study possible deviations from the Standard Model in the reaction $e^+e^- \to Zϕ$, where $ϕ$ denotes a spinless neutral boson. We show how the $Z$ decay angular correlation can be used to extract detailed information on the $ϕ$ couplings, such as the parity of $ϕ$, radiatively induced form factor effects and possible CP violation in the scalar sector. Consequences of gauge invariant dimension six operators are discussed as an example.

Hadronic $W$ production and the Gottfried Sum Rule

The difference in production rate between $W^+$ and $W^-$ at hadron colliders is very sensitive to the the difference between up- and down-quark distributions in the proton. This sensitivity allows for a variety of useful measurements. We consider the difference $d_s(x,Q^2) - u_s(x,Q^2)$ in the sea distributions and the difference $Δu(x,Q^2) - Δd(x,Q^2)$ in the polarized parton distribution functions. In both cases we construct an asymmetry to reduce systematic uncertainties. Although we discuss measurements at the Tevatron and future hadron colliders, we find that the Brookhaven Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is the most appropriate hadron collider for these measurements.
