Nontopological self-dual Maxwell-Higgs vortices

We study the existence of self-dual nontopological vortices in generalized Maxwell-Higgs models recently introduced in Ref. \cite{gv}. Our investigation is explicitly illustrated by choosing a sixth-order self-interaction potential, which is the simplest one allowing the existence of nontopological structures. We specify some Maxwell-Higgs models yielding BPS nontopological vortices having energy proportional to the magnetic flux, $Φ_{B}$, and whose profiles are numerically achieved. Particularly, we investigate the way the new solutions approach the boundary values, from which we verify their nontopological behavior. Finally, we depict the profiles numerically found, highlighting the main features they present.

Analytical BPS Maxwell-Higgs vortices

We have established a prescription for the calculation of analytical vortex solutions in the context of generalized Maxwell-Higgs models whose overall dynamics is controlled by two positive functions of the scalar field. We have also determined a natural constraint between these functions and the Higgs potential allowing the existence of axially symmetric Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) solutions possessing finite energy. Furthermore, when the generalizing functions are chosen suitably, the nonstandard BPS equations can be solved exactly. We have studied some examples, comparing them with the usual Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen (ANO) solution. The overall conclusion is that the analytical self-dual vortices are well-behaved in all relevant sectors, strongly supporting the generalized models they belong themselves. In particular, our results mimic well-known properties of the usual (numerical) configurations, as localized energy density, while contributing to the understanding of topological solitons and their description by means of analytical methods.

Maxwell-Chern-Simons vortices in a CPT-odd Lorentz-violating Higgs Electrodynamics

We have studied BPS vortices in a CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs (MCSH) electrodynamics attained from the dimensional reduction of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw-Higgs model. The Lorentz-violating parameter induces a pronounced behavior at origin (for the magnetic/electric fields and energy density) which is absent in the MCSH vortices. For some combination of the Lorentz-violating coefficients there always exist a sufficiently large winding number $n_{0}$ such that for all $% |n|\geq |n_{0}|$ the magnetic field flips its signal, yielding two well defined regions with opposite magnetic flux. However, the total magnetic flux remains quantized and proportional to the winding number.

On the $κ$-Dirac Oscillator revisited

This Letter is based on the $κ$-Dirac equation, derived from the $κ$-Poincaré-Hopf algebra. It is shown that the $κ$-Dirac equation preserves parity while breaks charge conjugation and time reversal symmetries. Introducing the Dirac oscillator prescription, $\mathbf{p}\to\mathbf{p}-imωβ\mathbf{r}$, in the $κ$-Dirac equation, one obtains the $κ$-Dirac oscillator. Using a decomposition in terms of spin angular functions, one achieves the deformed radial equations, with the associated deformed energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. The deformation parameter breaks the infinite degeneracy of the Dirac oscillator. In the case where $\varepsilon=0$, one recovers the energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Dirac oscillator.

Deformed self-dual magnetic monopoles

We develop a deformation method for attaining new magnetic monopole analytical solutions consistent with generalized Yang-Mills-Higgs model introduced recently. The new solutions fulfill the usual radially symmetric ansatz and the boundary conditions suitable to assure finite energy configurations. We verify our prescription by studying some particular cases involving both exactly and partially analytical initial configurations whose deformation leads to new analytic BPS monopoles. The results show consistency among the models, the deformation procedure and the profile of the new solutions.

BPS Maxwell-Chern-Simons-like vortices in a Lorentz-violating framework

We have analyzed Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs BPS vortices in a Lorentz-violating CPT-odd context. The Lorentz violation induces profiles with a conical behavior at the origin. For some combination of the coefficients for Lorentz violation there always exists a sufficiently large winding number for which the magnetic field flips its sign.

A CPT-even Lorentz-violating nonminimal coupling between fermions and photons

We propose a CPT-even and Lorentz-violating dimension-five nonminimal coupling between fermionic and gauge fields, involving the CPT-even and Lorentz-violating gauge tensor of the Standard-Model Extension. This nonminimal coupling modifies the nonrelativistic regime of Dirac particles, inducing new effects such as an electric-Zeeman-like spectrum splitting and an anomalous-like contribution to the electron magnetic moment. These new effects allow to constrain the magnitude of this nonminimal coupling in 1 part in $10^{16}.$

Analytical self-dual solutions in a nonstandard Yang-Mills-Higgs scenario

We have found analytical self-dual solutions within the generalized Yang-Mills-Higgs model introduced in Phys. Rev. D 86, 085034 (2012). Such solutions are magnetic monopoles satisfying Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) equations and usual finite energy boundary conditions. Moreover, the new solutions are classified in two different types according to their capability of recovering (or not) the usual 't Hooft--Polyakov monopole. Finally, we compare the profiles of the solutions we found with the standard ones, from which we comment about the main features exhibited by the new configurations.

Aharonov-Bohm-Casher Problem with a nonminimal Lorentz-violating coupling

The Aharonov-Bohm-Casher problem is examined for a charged particle describing a circular path in presence of a Lorentz-violating background nonminimally coupled to a spinor and a gauge field. It were evaluated the particle eigenenergies, showing that the LV background is able to lift the original degenerescence in the absence of magnetic field and even for a neutral particle. The Aharonov-Casher phase is used to impose an upper bound on the background magnitude. A similar analysis is accomplished in a space endowed with a topological defect, revealing that both the disclination parameter and the LV background are able to modify the particle eigenenergies. We also analyze the particular case where the particle interacts harmonically with the topological defect and the LV background, with similar results.

Lorentz-violating effects on topological defects generated by two real scalar fields

The influence of a Lorentz-violation on soliton solutions generated by a system of two coupled scalar fields is investigated. Lorentz violation is induced by a fixed tensor coefficient that couples the two fields. The Bogomol'nyi method is applied and first-order differential equations are obtained whose solutions minimize energy and are also solutions of the equations of motion. The analysis of the solutions in phase space shows how the stability is modified with the Lorentz violation. It is shown explicitly that the solutions preserve linear stability despite the presence of Lorentz violation. Considering Lorentz violation as a small perturbation, an analytical method is employed to yield analytical solutions.

Fermion localization and resonances on two-field thick branes

We consider $(4,1)$-dimensional branes constructed with two scalar fields $ϕ$ and $χ$ coupled to a Dirac spinor field by means of a general Yukawa coupling. The equation of motion for the coefficients of the chiral decomposition of the spinor in curved spacetime leads to a Schödinger-like equation whose solutions allow to obtain the masses of the fermionic modes. The simplest Yukawa coupling $\barΨϕχΨ$ is considered for the Bloch brane model and fermion localization is studied. We found resonances for both chiralities and related their appearance to branes with internal structure.

Lorentz violating effects on a quantized two-level system

In this work, we consider the effects of the Lorentz-violating (LV) term $ v_μ\barψγ^μψ$ belonging to the fermion sector of the extended standard model on the dynamics of a quantum two-level system. We examine how its non-relativistic counterpart, ${(\mathbf{p}-e \mathbf{A})\cdot }\mathbf{v}/{m_{e},}$ affects the Rabi oscillations of a two-level atom coupled with a quantum cavity electromagnetic field. Taking an initial coherent field state in a resonant cavity, it was found that the LV background increases the Rabi frequency and the time interval between collapses and revivals of the population inversion function. It was found that initial field states with low mean number of photons are better probes in order to establish more stringent upper bounds on the background magnitude. In particular, for an initial vacuum state in the cavity the upper limit $\text{v}_{x}<10^{-10}eV$ was attained.

Lorentz-violating corrections on the hydrogen spectrum induced by a non-minimal coupling

The influence of a Lorentz-violating fixed background on fermions is considered by means of a torsion-free non-minimal coupling. The non-relativistic regime is assessed and the Lorentz-violating Hamiltonian is determined. The effect of this Hamiltonian on the hydrogen spectrum is determined to first-order evaluation (in the absence of external magnetic field), revealing that there appear some energy shifts that modify the fine structure of the spectrum. In the case the non-minimal coupling is torsion-like, no first order correction shows up in the absence of an external field; in the presence of an external field, a secondary Zeeman effect is implied. Such effects are then used to set up stringent bounds on the parameters of the model.

Lorentz-symmetry Violation and Electrically Charged Vortices in the Planar Regime

We start from a Lorentz non-invariant Abelian-Higgs model in 1+3 dimensions, and carry out its dimensional reduction to $D=1+2$. The planar model resulting thereof is composed by a Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Proca gauge sector, a massive scalar sector, and a mixing term (involving the fixed background, $v^μ$) that realizes Lorentz violation for the reduced model. Vortex-type solutions of the planar model are investigated, revealing charged vortex configurations that recover the usual Nielsen-Olesen configuration in the asymptotic regime. The Aharonov-Casher Effect in layered superconductors, that shows interference of neutral particles with a magnetic moment moving around a line charge, is also studied. Our charged vortex solutions exhibit a screened electric field that induces the same phase shift as the one caused by the charged wire.

Classical Solutions in a Lorentz-violating Scenario of Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Proca Electrodynamics

Taking as starting point the planar model arising from the dimensional reduction of the Abelian-Higgs Carroll-Field-Jackiw model, we write down and study the extended Maxwell equations and the corresponding wave equations for the potentials. The solutions for these equations correspond to the usual ones for the MCS-Proca system, supplemented with background-dependent correction terms. In the case of a purely timelike background, exact algebraic solutions are presented which possess a similar behavior to the MCS-Proca counterparts near and far from the origin. On the other hand, for a purely spacelike background, only approximate solutions are feasible. They consist of non-trivial analytic expressions with a manifest evidence of spatial anisotropy, which is consistent with the existence of a privileged direction in space. These solutions also behave similarly to the MCS-Proca ones near and far from the origin.

Non-Minimal Coupling to a Lorentz-Violating Background and Topological Implications

The non-minimal coupling of fermions to a background responsible for the breaking of Lorentz symmetry is introduced in Dirac's equation; the non-relativistic regime is contemplated, and the Pauli's equation is used to show how an Aharonov-Casher phase may appear as a natural consequence of the Lorentz violation, once the particle is placed in a region where there is an electric field. Different ways of implementing the Lorentz breaking are presented and, in each case, we show how to relate the Aharonov-Casher phase to the particular components of the background vector or tensor that realises the violation of Lorentz symmetry.

Dimensional Reduction of the Abelian-Higgs Carroll-Field-Jackiw Model

Taking as a starting point a Lorentz non-invariant Abelian-Higgs model defined in 1+3 dimensions, we carry out its dimensional reduction to D=1+2, obtaining a new planar model composed by a Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Proca gauge sector, a massive scalar sector, and a mixing term (involving the fixed background (v^μ) that imposes the Lorentz violation to the reduced model. The propagators of the scalar and massive gauge field are evaluated and the corresponding dispersion relations determined. Based on the poles of the propagators, a causality and unitarity analysis is carried out at tree-level. One then shows that the model is totally causal and unitary.

Classical Solutions in a Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Chern-Simons Electrodynamics

We take as starting point the planar model arising from the dimensional reduction of the Maxwell Electrodynamics with the (Lorentz-violating) Carroll-Field-Jackiw term. We then write and study the extended Maxwell equations and the corresponding wave equations for the potentials. The solution to these equations show some interesting deviations from the usual MCS Electrodynamics, with background-dependent correction terms. In the case of a time-like background, the correction terms dominate over the MCS sector in the region far from the origin, and establish the behaviour of a massless Electrodynamics (in the electric sector). In the space-like case, the solutions indicate the clear manifestation of spatial anisotropy, which is consistent with the existence of a privileged direction is space.
