Non-Markovian dynamics in the extended cluster spin-1/2 XX chain

We study the dynamics of entanglement in the extended cluster spin-1/2 XX chain, equivalent to a 1D spin-1/2 XX model with three-spin interaction (TSI). Selecting the nearest neighbor pair spins as an open quantum system, the rest of the chain plays the role of environment. The two-spin Heisenberg and the TSI interaction are responsible for coupling between system and environment. We show the existence of a critical value in the TSI, where the dynamics of concurrence changes from Markovian to the non-Markovian. In the region with the non-Markovian dynamics, entanglement sudden death in the system is observed. By focusing on the nearest neighbor pair spins of the environment, we have showed that the dynamics of entanglement in the environment is sensitive to the Markovian and non-Markovian regions.

Coherent population oscillation produced by saturating probe and pump fields on the intercombination Line

We present a theoretical study of the experiments on coherent population oscillations and coher- ent population trapping on the intercombination line of 174Y b. The transition involves a change of the spin and thus can not be interpreted in terms of an effective Lambda system. The reported experiments are done in the regime where both pump and probe fields can saturate the transition. We demonstrate by both numerical and analytical calculations the appearance of the interference minimum as both pump and probe start saturating the transition. We present an analytical result for the threshold probe power when the interference minimum can appear. We also present de- tailed study of the appearance of the interference minimum when magnetic fields are applied. The magnetic fields not only create Zeeman splittings but in addition make the system open because of the couplings to other levels. We show the possibility of interference minimum at the position of subharmonic resonances.

Gain-assisted superluminal microwave pulse propagation via four-wave mixing in superconducting phase quantum circuits

We study the propagation and amplification of a microwave field in a four-level cascade quantum system which is realized in a superconducting phase quantum circuit. It is shown that by increasing the microwave pump tones feeding the system, the normal dispersion switches to the anomalous and the gain-assisted superluminal microwave propagation is obtained in this system. Moreover, it is demonstrated that the stimulated microwave field is generated via four-wave mixing without any inversion population in the energy levels of the system (amplification without inversion) and the group velocity of the generated pulse can be controlled by the external oscillating magnetic fluxes. We also show that in some special set of parameters, the absorption-free superluminal generated microwave propagation is obtained in superconducting phase quantum circuit system.

Effect of quantum interference on the optical properties of a three-level V-type atomic system beyond the two-photon resonance condition

The effect of quantum interference on the optical properties of a pumped-probe three-level V-type atomic system is investigated. The probe absorption, dispersion, group index and optical bistability beyond the two-photon resonance condition are discussed. It is found that the optical properties of a medium in the frequency of the probe field, in general, are phase independent. The phase dependence arises from a scattering of the coupling field into the probe field at a frequency which in general differs from the probe field frequency. It is demonstrated that beyond the two-photon resonance condition the phase sensitivity of the medium will disappear.

Gain-assisted superluminal light propagation via incoherent pump field

We investigate the dispersion and the absorption properties of a weak probe field in a three-level Lambda-type atomic system. We use just an incoherent field for controlling the group velocity of light. It is shown that the slope of dispersion changes from positive to negative just with changing the intensity of the indirect incoherent pumping field. Gain-assisted superluminal light propagation appears in this system. No laser field is used in the pumping processes.

Absorption free superluminal light propagation in a three level pump-probe system

We investigate the dispersion and the absorption properties of a weak probe field in a three-level pump-probe atomic system. It is shown that the slope of dispersion changes from positive to negative just with the intensity of the coherent or indirect incoherent pumping fields. It is demonstrated that the absorption free superluminal light propagation is appeared in this system.

Group velocity control in the ultraviolet domain via interacting dark-state resonances

The propagation of a weak probe field in a laser-driven four-level atomic system is investigated. We choose mercury as our model system, where the probe transition is in the ultraviolet region. A high-resolution peak appears in the optical spectra due to the presence of interacting dark resonances. We show that this narrow peak leads to superluminal light propagation with strong absorption, and thus by itself is only of limited interest. But if in addition a weak incoherent pump field is applied to the probe transition, then the peak structure can be changed such that both sub- and superluminal light propagation or a negative group velocity can be achieved without absorption, controlled by the incoherent pumping strength.
