Radiative Corrections to the Muon Polarization in the Semileptonic Decay of a Neutral Kaon

A model-independent expression for the Dalitz plot of the semileptonic decays of a neutral kaon $K_{\mu 3}^0$, including radiative corrections to order $\mathcal{O}[(\alpha / \pi )(q/M_1)]$, where $q$ is the four-momentum transfer and $M_1$ is the mass of the decaying kaon, is presented. In this paper the emitted muon is considered to be polarized so the analysis is centered on numerically evaluating the radiative corrections to the longitudinal, transverse, and normal polarization muon components. The model dependence of radiative corrections is kept in general form within this approximation, which is useful for model-independent experimental analyses. The final expressions, with the triple integration of the bremsstrahlung photon variables are ready to be performed numerically. The radiative corrections to the components of the muon polarization are found to be very small compared to their respective uncorrected values.

Precision radiative corrections to the muon polarization in the semileptonic decay of a charged kaon

An expression for the Dalitz plot of the semileptonic decay of a charged kaon, including radiative corrections to order O[\alpha \pi)(q/M_1)], where q is the four-momentum transfer and M_1 is the mass of the decaying kaon, is obtained. Contributions of both the three- and four-body regions are accounted for. Besides, the emitted muon is considered to be polarized so the analysis is also focused on evaluating the radiative corrections to the longitudinal, transverse, and normal polarization components of the muon. The final formulas, with the triple integration of the bremsstrahlung photon variables ready to be performed numerically, are general enough to be used in model-independent experimental analyses whether or not the real photon is discriminated. With the numerical values of the weak form factors and slope parameters of the process, the radiative corrections to the components of the muon polarization are found to be very small compared to their respective uncorrected values.

Magnetic coupling to the Advanced Virgo payloads and its impact on the low frequency sensitivity

We study the electromagnetic coupling of the Advanced Virgo (AdV) Input Mirror Payload (IMP) in response to a slowly time-varying magnetic field. As the problem is not amenable to analytical solution, we employ and validate a finite element (FE) analysis approach. The FE model is built to represent as faithfully as possible the real object and it has been validated by comparison with experimental measurements. The intent is to estimate the induced currents and the magnetic field in the neighbourhood of the payload. The procedure found 21 equivalent electrical configurations that are compatible with the measurements. These have been used to compute the magnetic noise contribution to the total AdV strain noise. At the current stage of development AdV seems to be unaffected by magnetic noise, but we foresee a non-negligible coupling once AdV reaches the design sensitivity.

Four-body Dalitz plot contribution to the radiative corrections in K_{l3}^0 decays and its role in the determination of |V_{us}|

The four-body contribution of the model-independent radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of the semileptonic decays of neutral kaons are computed to order (α/π)(q/M_1), where q is the momentum transfer and M_1 is the kaon mass. The final result is presented in two forms. The first one is given in terms of the triple integration of the bremsstrahlung photon ready to be performed numerically; the second one is a fully analytical expression. This paper is organized to make it accessible and reliable in the analysis of the Dalitz plot of precision experiments involving kaons and is not compromised to fixing the form factors at predetermined values. As a byproduct, gathering together three- and four-body contributions of radiative corrections yields, through a least-squares fit to the measured kaon decay rates, the value f_+^{K^0π^-}|V_{us}| = 0.2168(3).

Radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of K_{l3}^0 decays

A model-independent expression for the Dalitz plot of semileptonic decays of neutral kaons, K_{l3}^0, including radiative corrections to order (α/π)(q/M_1), where q is the momentum transfer and M_1 is the mass of the kaon, is presented. The model dependence of radiative corrections is kept in a general form within this approximation, which is suitable for model-independent experimental analyses. Expressions for bremsstrahlung radiative corrections are presented in two forms: one with the triple integral over the kinematical variables of the photon ready to be performed numerically and the other one in a fully analytical form. The final result is restricted to the so-called three-body region of the Dalitz plot and it is not compromised to fixing the values of the form factors at predetermined values.

Radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of K_{l3}^\pm decays: Contribution of the four-body region

We calculate the radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of K_{l3}^\pm decays to order (alpha/pi)(q/M_1), where q is the momentum transfer and M_1 is the mass of the kaon. We restrict the analysis to the so-called four-body region, which arises when no discrimination of real photons is made either kinematically or experimentally. We present our results in two ways: the first one with the triple integration over the photon kinematical variables ready to be performed numerically and the second one in a fully analytical form. Our results can be useful in experimental analyses of the Dalitz plot, by evaluating the model-independent coefficients of the quadratic products of the form factors; we provide some numbers as a case example. We find a small, albeit non-negligible, contribution from the four-body region to the radiative correction to the total decay rate of K_{l3}^\pm decays.

Radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of K_{l3}^\pm decays

We calculate the model-independent radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of K_{l3}^\pm decays to order (α/π)(q/M_1), where q is the momentum transfer and M_1 is the mass of the kaon. The final results are presented, first, with the triple integration over the variables of the bremsstrahlung photon ready to be performed numerically and, second, in an analytical form. These two forms are useful to crosscheck on one another and with other calculations. This paper is organized to make it accessible and reliable in the analysis of the Dalitz plot of precision experiments and is not compromised to fixing the form factors at predetermined values. It is assumed that the real photons are kinematically discriminated. Otherwise, our results have a general model-independent applicability.

Radiative corrections to the three-body region of the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays with angular correlation between polarized emitted baryons and charged leptons

We have calculated the radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays with angular correlation between polarized emitted baryons and charged leptons. This work covers both charged and neutral decaying baryons and is restricted to the so-called three-body region of the Dalitz plot. Also it is specialized at the center-of-mass frame of the emitted baryon. We have considered terms up to order (alpha/pi)(q/M_1)^0, where q is the momentum-transfer and M_1 is the mass of the decaying baryon, and neglected terms of order (alpha/pi)(q/M_1)^n$ for n >= 1. The expressions displayed are ready to obtain numerical results, suitable for model-independent experimental analyses.

Precision radiative corrections to the semileptonic Dalitz plot with angular correlation between polarized decaying baryon and emitted charged lepton: Effects of the four-body region

Analytical radiative corrections of order (alpha/pi)(q/M) are calculated for the four-body region of the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays when the s1.l correlation is present. Once the final result is available, it is possible to exhibit it in terms of the corresponding final result of the three-body region following a set of simple changes in the latter, except for a few exceptions. We cover two cases, a charged and a neutral polarized decaying baryon.

Analytical radiative corrections of order (α/π)(q/M_1) are calculated for the four-body region of the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays when the s_1 \cdot p_2 correlation is present. Once the final result is available, it is possible to exhibit it in terms of the corresponding final result of the three-body region following a set of simple changes in the latter. Precision radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays including the spin-momentum correlation of the decaying baryon and the emitted charged lepton

We calculate the radiative corrections to the angular correlation between the polarization of the decaying baryon and the direction of the emitted charged lepton in the semileptonic decays of spin one-half baryons to order (α/π)(q/M_1). The final results are presented, first, with the triple integration of the bremsstrahlung photon ready to be performed numerically and, second, in an analytical form. A third presentation of our results in the form of numerical arrays of coefficients to be multiplied on the quadratic products of form factors is discussed. This latter may be the most practical one to use in Monte Carlo simulations. A series of crosschecks is performed. The results are useful in the analysis of the Dalitz plot of precision experiments involving light and heavy quarks and is not compromised to fixing the form factors at predetermined values. It is assumed that the real photons are kinematically discriminated. Otherwise, our results have a general model-independent applicability.

Influence of conformational fluctuations on enzymatic activity: modelling the functional motion of beta-secretase

Considerable insight into the functional activity of proteins and enzymes can be obtained by studying the low-energy conformational distortions that the biopolymer can sustain. We carry out the characterization of these large scale structural changes for a protein of considerable pharmaceutical interest, the human $β$-secretase. Starting from the crystallographic structure of the protein, we use the recently introduced beta-Gaussian model to identify, with negligible computational expenditure, the most significant distortion occurring in thermal equilibrium and the associated time scales. The application of this strategy allows to gain considerable insight into the putative functional movements and, furthermore, helps to identify a handful of key regions in the protein which have an important mechanical influence on the enzymatic activity despite being spatially distant from the active site. The results obtained within the Gaussian model are validated through an extensive comparison against an all-atom Molecular Dynamics simulation.

Numerical precision radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of light and heavy quark unpolarized baryon semileptonic decays. The cases Xi^0 \to Sigma^+ e \barν and Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν

We propose and discuss a numerical use of our previous precision results for the radiative corrections to unpolarized spin one-half baryon semileptonic decays, which is not compromised to fixing the form factors at prescribed values. We present various crosschecks and comparisons with other results available in the literature of such analytical radiative corrections. Our analysis, however, is general and applies to all charge assignments to the baryons allowed by heavy quarks. The procedure is exemplified with the processes Ξ^0 \to Σ^+ e\barν and Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν.

Numerical precision radiative corrections to the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays including the spin-momentum correlation of the decaying and emitted baryons

We calculate the radiative corrections to the angular correlation between the polarization of the decaying and the direction of the emitted spin one-half baryons in the semileptonic decay mode. The final results are presented, first, with the triple integration of the bremsstrahlung photon ready to be performed numerically and, second, in an analytical form. A third presentation of our results in the form of numerical arrays of coefficients to be multiplied by the quadratic products of form factors is discussed. This latter may be the most practical one to use in Monte Carlo simulations. A series of crosschecks is performed. Previous results to order (alpha/pi)(q/M_1) for the decays of unpolarized baryons are reviewed, too, where q is the momentum transfer and M_1 is the mass of the decaying baryon. This paper is self-contained and organized to make it accessible and reliable in the analysis of the Dalitz plot of precision experiments involving heavy quarks and is not compromised to fixing the form factors at predetermined values. It is assumed that the real photons are kinematically discriminated. Otherwise, our results have a general model-independent applicability.
