A Transfer Matrix Method for Resonances in Randall-Sundrum Models III: An analytical comparison

The transfer matrix method is used to analyze resonances in Randall-Sundrum models. Although it has successfully been used previously by us we provide here a comparison between the numerical and analytical models. To reach this we first find new exact solution for the scalar, gauge, Kalb-Ramond and $q-$form fields. Them we calculate numerically the resonances by the transfer matrix method and compare with the analytical result. For completeness, this is done for models with and without the dilaton coupling. The results show a perfect agreement between the analytical and numerical methods.

RNS and Pure Spinors Equivalence for Type I Tree Level Amplitudes Involving up to Four Fermions

In this paper we give a proof of the equivalence between the RNS and Pure Spinor formalism for Type I tree level amplitudes involving up to four fermions. This result have been obtained previously for amplitudes involving only closed or open amplitudes and here we extend it to include Type I amplitudes. For this we first prove the cyclic symmetry of Type I superstring in a way that it is also valid for the Pure Spinor formalism. The technique used is applied to simplify the calculation of the tree level three point amplitude previously computed. As a byproduct, we are able to calculate the gauge anomaly amplitude of type I Superstrings in this formalism.

A Transfer Matrix Method for Resonances in Randall-Sundrum Models II: The Deformed Case

Here we consider resonances of the Gauge, Gravity and Spinor fields in Randall-Sundrum-like scenarios. We consider membranes that are generated by a class of topological defects that are deformed domain walls obtained from other previously known ones. They are obtained by a deformation procedure generate different potentials to the associated Schrödinger-like equation. The resonance spectra are calculated numerically using the method of Transfer Matrix developed by the authors and presented in JHEP 1108 (2011) 071. The new deformed defects change the resonances spectra of all fields considered and the associated phenomenology as well.

A Transfer Matrix Method for Resonances in Randall-Sundrum Models

In this paper we discuss in detail a numerical method to study resonances in membranes generated by domain walls in Randall-Sundrum-like scenarios. It is based on similar works to understand the quantum mechanics of electrons subject to the potential barriers that exist in heterostructures in semiconductors. This method was used recently to study resonances of a three form field and lately generalized to arbitrary forms. We apply it to a lot of important models, namely those that contain the Gauge, Gravity and Spinor fields. In many cases we find a rich structure of resonances which depends on the parameters involved.

Dual Spaces of Resonance In Thick $p-$Branes

In this work we consider $q-$form fields in a $p-$brane embedded in a $D=(p+2)$ space-time. The membrane is generated by a domain wall in a Randall-Sundrum-like scenario. We study conditions for localization of zero modes of these fields. The expression agrees and generalizes the one found for the zero, one, two and three-forms in a $3-$brane. By a generalization we mean that our expression is valid for any form in an arbitrary dimension with codimension one. We also point out that, even without the dilaton coupling, some form fields are localized in the membrane. The massive modes are considered and the resonances are calculated using a numerical method. We find that different spaces have identical resonance structures, which we call dual spaces of resonances(DSR).

Exact solutions for a Maxwell-Kalb-Ramond action with dilaton: Localization of massless and massive modes in a sine-Gordon brane-world

We analytically find the exact propagation modes of the electromagnetic and the Kalb-Ramond fields together in a five-dimensional curved space-time. The existence and localization of gauge particles into our four-dimensional world (4D) is studied in detail on a brane-world scenario in which two gauge fields interact with a dilaton and a gravitational background. The coupling to the dilaton is different in each case causing the splitting between both gauge spectra. The gauge field zero-modes and an infinite tower of Kaluza-Klein massive states are analytically obtained. Relevant conditions on the dilaton coupling constant are found in order to identify with precision every finite tensor and vector eigenstate in the theory. An exact quantization condition on the whole mass spectrum, depending on the dilaton coupling constant and the bulk Planck mass, is inherited from the extra-dimension. This allows finding an exact rule to prevent tachyons in the theory and, by the same token, predicting a possible Kalb-Ramond tensor zero-mode in 4D world. We also show that KK massive-modes contributions onto 4D physics are strongly suppressed.

Antisymmetric Tensor Fields in Codimension Two Brane-World

In this work we consider the issue of localization of antisymmetric tensor fields of arbitrary rank in a D dimensional Space-time with a codimension two. A string-like defect is used to simulate the membrane. The localization of massless and massive fields is found. The mass spectrum is infinitely degenerate for each mass level and this is solved by coupling the $q-$form to fermions.

Antisymmetric Tensor Fields in Randall Sundrum Thick Branes

In this article we study the issue of localization of the three-form field in a Randall-Sundrum-like scenario. We simulate our membrane by kinks embedded in D=5, describing the usual case (not deformed) and new models coming from a specific deformation procedure. The gravitational background regarded includes the dilaton contribution. We show that we can only localize the zero-mode of this field for a specific range of the dilaton coupling, even in the deformed case. A study about resonances is presented. We use a numerical approach for calculations of the transmission coefficients associated to the quantum mechanical problem. This gives a clear description of the physics involved in the model. We find in this way that the appearance of resonances is strongly dependent on the coupling constant. We study the cases $p=1,3$ and 5 for $α=-1.75$ and $α=-20$. The first value of $α$ give us one resonance peak for $p=1$ and no resonances for $p=3,5$. The second value of $α$ give us a very rich structure of resonances, with number deppending on the value of $p$.

Bulk Antisymmetric tensor fields coupled to a dilaton in a Randall-Sundrum model

A string-inspired 3-form-dilaton-gravity model is studied in a Randall-Sundrum brane world scenario. As expected, the rank-3 antisymmetric field is exponentially suppressed. For each mass level, the mass spectrum is bigger than the one for the Kalb-Ramond field. The coupling between the dilaton and the massless Kaluza-Klein mode of the 3-form is calculated and the coupling constant of the cubic interactions obtained numerically. This coupling are of the order of Tev$^{-1}$, therefore there exist a possibility to find some signal of it at Tev scale.

Results in Kalb-Ramond field localization and resonances on deformed branes

We make an analysis about several aspects of localization of the Kalb-Ramond gauge field in a specific four dimensional AdS membrane embedded in a five dimensional space-time. The membrane is generated from a deformation of the $λϕ^4$ potential and belongs to a new class of defect solutions. In this context we find resonance structures in the analysis of massive modes. The study of deformed defects is important because they contain internal structures and these may have implications to the way the background space-time is constructed and the way its curvature behaves. The main objective here is to observe the contributions of the deformation procedure to the resonances and the well known field localization methods.

Tensor gauge field localization in branes

In this work we study localization of a Kalb-Ramond tensorial gauge field on a membrane described by real scalar fields. The membrane is embedded in an AdS-type five dimensional bulk space, which mimic a Randall-Sundrum scenario. First, we consider a membrane described by only a single real scalar field. In that scenarios we find that there is no localized tensorial zero mode. When we take into account branes described by two real scalar fields with internal structures, we obtain again a non-localized zero mode for a Kalb-Ramond tensorial gauge field. After modifying our model of one single scalar field by coupling the dilaton to the Kalb-Ramond field, we find that this result is changed. Furthermore, we analyze Kaluza-Klein massive modes and resonance structures.

Spacetime as a deformable solid

In this letter we discuss the possibility of treating the spacetime by itself as a kind of deformable body for which we can define an fundamental lattice, just like atoms in crystal lattices. We show three signs pointing in that direction. We simulate the spacetime manifold by a very specific congruence of curves and use the Landau-Raychadhuri equation to study the behavior of such a congruence. The lattice appears because we are forced to associate to each curve of the congruence a sort of fundamental "particle". The world-lines of these particles should be identified with the congruence fulfilling the spacetime manifold. The conclusion is that when describing the deformations of the spacetime the Einstein equations emerge and the spacetime metric should be treated as a secondary (not fundamental) object of the theory.

Generalized axion-photon couplings and dual descriptions on brane-worlds

In this work we obtain topological and dual theories on brane-worlds in several dimensions. Our brane is a solitonic-like hypersurface embedded in a space-time with a specific dimensionality and it appears due to the breaking of a Peccei-Quinn-like symmetry. In the first part of this work, the obtained topological theories are related to a generalization of the axion-foton anomalous interaction in D=4 (in the Abelian case) and to the Wess-Zumino term (in the non-Abelian case). In the second part, we construct dual models on the brane through a mechanism of explicit Lorentz symmetry breaking. The gauge symmetries of such models are discussed within the Stuckelberg formalism.

Topological gravity localization on a delta-function like Brane

Besides the String Theory context, the quantum General Relativity can be studied by the use of constrained topological field theories. In the celebrated Plebanski formalism, the constraints connecting topological field theories and gravity are imposed in space-times with trivial topology. In the braneworld context there are two distinct regions of the space-time, namely, the bulk and the braneworld volume. In this work we show how to construct topological gravity in a scenario containing one extra dimension and a delta-function like 3-brane which naturally emerges from a spontaneously broken discrete symmetry. Starting from a D=5 theory we obtain the action for General Relativity in the Palatini form in the bulk as well as in the braneworld volume. This result is important for future insights about quantum gravity in brane scenarios.

Gauge hierarchy from a topological viewpoint?

In this work we explore an alternative to the central point of the Randall-Sundrum brane world scenario, namely, the particular nonfactorizable metric, in order to solve the hierarchy problem. From a topological viewpoint, we show that the exponential factor, crucial in the Randall-Sundrum model, appears in our approach, only due to the brane existence instead of a special metric background. Our results are based in a topological gravity theory via a non-standard interaction between scalar and non-abelian degrees of freedom and in calculations about localized modes of matter fields on the brane. We point out that we obtain the same results of the Randall-Sundrum model using only one 3-brane, since a specific choice of a background metric is no longer required.
