An Embedding of Schwartz Distributions in the Algebra of Asymptotic Functions

We present a solution of the problem of multiplication of Schwartz distributions by embedding the space of distributions into a differential algebra of generalized functions, called in the paper ``asymptotic function'', similar to but different from J. F. Colombeau's algebras of new generalized functions.

Initial-boundary value problem for 1D pressureless gas dynamics

The paper considers the system of pressureless gas dynamics in one space dimension. The question of solvability of the initial-boundary value problem is addressed. Using the method of generalized potentials and characteristic triangles, extended to the boundary value case, an explicit way of constructing measure-valued solutions is presented. The prescription of boundary data is shown to depend on the behavior of the generalized potentials at the boundary. We show that the constructed solution satisfies an entropy condition and it conserves mass, whereby mass may accumulate at the boundary. Conservation of momentum again depends on the behavior of the generalized boundary potentials. There is a large amount of literature where the initial value problem for the pressureless gas dynamics model has been studied. To our knowledge, this paper is the first one which considers the initial-boundary value problem.

Differential Calculus and Integration of Generalized Functions over Membranes

In this paper we continue the development of the differential calculus started by Aragona-Ferandez-Juriaans. Guided by the topology introduced recently by those authors we introduce the notion of membranes and extend the definition of integrals given in [2] to integrals defined on membranes. We use this to prove a generalized version of teh Cauchy formula and to obtain the Goursat Theorem for generalized holomorphic functions. We also show that the generalized transport equation can be solved giving an explicit solution

Internal sets and internal functions in Colombeau theory

Inspired by nonstandard analysis, we define and study internal subsets and internal functions in algebras of Colombeau generalized functions. We prove a saturation principle for internal sets and provide applications to Colombeau algebras.

Generalized functions for quantum fields obeying quadratic exchange relations

The axiomatic formulation of quantum field theory (QFT) of the 1950's in terms of fields defined as operator valued Schwartz distributions is re-examined in the light of subsequent developments. These include, on the physical side, the construction of a wealth of (2-dimensional) soluble QFT models with quadratic exchange relations, and, on the mathematical side, the introduction of the Colombeau algebras of generalized functions. Exploiting the fact that energy positivity gives rise to a natural regularization of Wightman distributions as analytic functions in a tube domain, we argue that the flexible notions of Colombeau theory which can exploit particular regularizations is better suited (than Schwartz distributions) for a mathematical formulation of QFT.
