Experimental measurement of the reappearance of Rabi rotations in semiconductor quantum dots

Phonons in solid-state quantum emitters play a crucial role in their performance as photon sources in quantum technology. For resonant driving, phonons dampen the Rabi oscillations resulting in reduced preparation fidelities. The phonon spectral density, which quantifies the strength of the carrier-phonon interaction, is non-monotonous as a function of energy. As one of the most prominent consequences, this leads to the reappearance of Rabi rotations for increasing pulse power, which was theoretically predicted in Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 227403 (2007). In this paper we present the experimental demonstration of the reappearance of Rabi rotations.

Modeling scanning tunneling spectra of $Bi_2 Sr_2 CaCu_2 O_{8+δ}$

Recent angle-resolved photoemission and neutron scattering data have provided new ingredients for the interpretation of scanning tunneling spectra on Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$. We analyze the low-temperature tunneling spectra, from oxygen overdoped to underdoped samples, including details about the bilayer splitting and the neutron resonance peak. Two van Hove singularities are identified: the first is integrated in the coherence peaks, the second is heavily broadened at higher binding energy. The shape of the tunneling spectra suggests a strong coupling of the quasiparticles with a collective mode, and a comparison with photoemission shows that the scattering rate in tunneling is an order of magnitude smaller than in ARPES. Finally, the theoretical spectra calculated with an isotropic tunneling matrix element are in better agreement with the experimental data than those obtained with anisotropic matrix elements.

On the relation between QCD potentials in momentum and position space

We derive a formula which relates the QCD potentials in momentum space and in position space in terms of the beta-function of the renormalization-group equation for the potential. This formula is used to study the theoretical uncertainties in the potential and in particular in its application to the determination of the pole mass m_b when we use perturbative expansions. We demonstrate the existence of these uncertainties for the Richardson potential explicitly and then discuss the limited theoretical accuracy in the perturbative QCD potential. We conclude that a theoretical uncertainty of m_b much below 100 MeV would not be achievable within perturbative QCD.

The Perturbative QCD Potential and the ttbar Threshold

We include the full second-order corrections to the static QCD potential in the analysis of the ttbar threshold cross section. There is an unexpectedly large difference between the QCD potential improved by the renormalization-group equation in momentum space and the potential improved by the renormalization-group equation in coordinate space. This difference remains even at a fairly short distance 1/r \simeq 100 GeV and its origin can be understood within perturbative QCD. We scrutinize the theoretical uncertainties of the QCD potential in relation to the ttbar threshold cross section. In particular there exists a theoretical uncertainty which limits our present theoretical accuracy of the ttbar threshold cross section at the peak to be not better than 6% within perturbative QCD.

QCD Potential and ttbar Threshold Cross Section --- Status Report ---

We include the full second-order corrections to the static QCD potential in the analysis of the ttbar threshold cross section. Then we examine the difference between the results obtained in the momentum-space approach and in the coordinate-space approach, which was found recently. Contrary to our expectation, the reduction of the difference by the inclusion of the second-order corrections is very small. There still remains a non-negligible deviation, which originates from the difference in the construction of the potentials in the two spaces. We scrutinize this problem. In particular, we estimate our present theoretical uncertainty of the ttbar threshold cross section at the peak to be at least 6% within perturbative QCD.

Final-State Interactions in e^+e^- -> t\bar{t} -> b l^+ \nu \bar{b} W^- Near Top Quark Threshold

We calculate final-state interaction corrections to the energy-angular distribution of l^+ in semi-leptonic top quark decay, where the parent top quark is produced via e^+e^- -> t\bar{t} near threshold. These are the corrections due to gluon exchange between t and \bar{b} (\bar{t} and b) and between b and \bar{b}. Combining with previously known other corrections, we explicitly write down the l^+ energy-angular distribution including the full O(alpha_s)=O(beta) corrections near t\bar{t} threshold. Numerical analyses of the final-state interaction corrections are given. We find that they deform the l^+ distribution typically at the 10% level. We also find that all qualitative features of the numerical results can be understood from intuitive pictures. The mechanisms of various effects of the final-state interactions are elucidated. Finally we define an observable which is proper to the decay process of the top quark (dependent only on d\Gamma_{t -> b l^+ \nu}/ dE_l d\Omega_l of a free polarized top quark) near t\bar{t} threshold. Such a quantity will be useful in extracting the decay property of the top quark using the highly polarized top quark samples.

Threshold Top Quark Production in $e^+e^-$ Annihilation: Rescattering Corrections

Top quark pair production close to threshold at a next linear collider is discussed, with special focus on the influence of rescattering corrections. Numerical results are shown for the differential cross-section, i.e. the momentum distribution and the forward backward asymmetry, and for moments of the angular distribution of leptons arising from the semileptonic top quark decay.

Top Quark Polarization in Polarized $e^+e^-$ Annihilation near Threshold

Top quark polarization in $e^+e^-$ annihilation into $t\bar t$ is calculated for linearly polarized beams. The Green function formalism is applied to this reaction near threshold. The Lippmann--Schwinger equations for the $S$-wave and $P$-wave Green functions are solved numerically for the QCD chromostatic potential given by the two-loop formula for large momentum transfer and Richardson's ansatz for intermediate and small momenta. $S$-$P$--wave interference contributes to all components of the top quark polarization vector. Rescattering of the decay products is considered. The mean values $\langle n \ell \rangle$ of the charged lepton four-momentum projections on appropriately chosen directions $n$ in semileptonic top decays are proposed as experimentally observable quantities sensitive to top quark polarization. The results for $\langle n \ell \rangle$ are obtained including $S$-$P$--wave interference and rescattering of the decay products. It is demonstrated that for the longitudinally polarized electron beam a highly polarized sample of top quarks can be produced.

s and d-wave symmetries of the solutions of the Eliashberg equations

We examine the different possible symmetries of the superconducting gap obtained by solving the Eliashberg equations. We consider an electron-phonon interaction in a strong coupling scenario. The Coulomb pseudopotential plays the crucial role of providing the repulsion needed to favour the d-wave symmetry. But the key parameter that allows very anisotropic solutions even with very strong coupling is the small angular range of the interaction due to predominantly electron-phonon forward scattering that is found in the high-Tc superconductors. We find both s and d-wave solutions whose stability depends mainly on the angular range of the interaction.

Polarized Top Quarks

Recent calculations are presented of top quark polarization in $t\bar t$ pair production close to threshold. S-P-wave interference gives contributions to all components of the top quark polarization vector. Rescattering of the decay products is considered. Moments of the fourmomentum of the charged lepton in semileptonic top decays are calculated and shown to be very sensitive to the top quark polarization.
