Equivalence between generalized phenomenological schemes for the interaction of cosmological fluids: applications to arbitrary linear barotropic fluids and vacuum decay

Interactions between cosmic fluids may appear in many cosmological scenarios that go far beyond the usually studied energy exchange in the dark sector. In the absence of known microscopic interaction mechanisms, phenomenological ansatzes are usually proposed in order to describe such models. In this paper, we derive a generalization of one of the most frequently used of such ansatzes:the one based on a initial proposal of Shapiro, Solà, España-Bonet and Ruiz-Lapuente who described a time-dependent cosmological "constant" whose variation arises from quantum effects near the Planck scale [I. L. Shapiro, J. Solà, C. España-Bonet, and P. Ruiz-Lapuente, (2003). This physically motivated model was based on a single free parameter $ν$, and was subsequently studied by Wang and Meng (2005), under the pure phenomenological reasoning that the vacuum decay would slightly modify the exponent describing how the energy density of dark matter decreases with the scale factor. This modification is described by a single parameter $\varepsilon$ (= 3 $ν$ of the former paper). The generalization derived in the present article requires two free parameters ($\varepsilon_{1}$, $\varepsilon_{2}$). We show that this extension is dynamically equivalent to the ansatz proposed by Barrow and Clifton (2006) which deals with the transfer of energy between any two fluids using a two-parameter scheme ($α_{1}$, $α_{2}$) and that has the advantage of exhibiting explicitly the form of the interaction factor appearing in the continuity equation of each fluid.

The Rotation of Binary Systems with evolved Components

In the present study we analyze the behavior of the rotational velocity, vsini, for a large sample of 134 spectroscopic binary systems with a giant star component of luminosity class III, along the spectral region from middle F to middle K. The distribution of vsini as a function of color index (B-V) seems to follow the same behavior as their single counterparts, with a sudden decline around G0III. Blueward of this spectral type, namely for binary systems with a giant F-type component, one sees a trend for a large spread in the rotational velocities, from a few km/s to at least 40km/s. Along the G and K spectral regions there is a considerable number of binary systems with moderate to moderately high rotation rates. This reflects the effects of synchronization between rotation and orbital motions. These rotators have orbital periods shorter than about 250 days and circular or nearly circular orbits. Except for these synchronized systems, the large majority of binary systems with a giant component of spectral type later than G0III are composed of slow rotators.

Rotation and lithium in single giant stars

In the present work, we study the link between rotation and lithium abundance in giant stars of luminosity class III, on the basis of a large sample of single stars of spectral type F, G and K. We shows that giant stars presenting the highest lithium contents, typically stars earlier than G0III, are those with the highest rotation rates, pointing for a dependence of lithium content on rotation, as observed for other luminosity classes. Giant stars later than G0III present, as a rule, the lowest rotation rates and lithium contents. A large spread of about five magnitudes in lithium abundance is observed for the slow rotators. Finally, single giant stars with masses 1.5 < M/Msun <= 2.5 show a clearest trend for a correlation between rotational velocity and lithium abundance.
