Swanson Hamiltonian: non-PT-symmetry phase

In this work, we study the non-hermitian Swanson hamiltonian, particularly the non-PT symmetry phase. We use the formalism of Gel'fand triplet to construct the generalized eigenfunctions and the corresponding spectrum. Depending on the region of the parameter model space, we show that the Swanson hamiltonian represents different physical systems, i.e. parabolic barrier, negative mass oscillators. We also discussed the presence of Exceptional Points of infinite order.

Dynamics of finite dimensional non-hermitian systems with indefinite metric

We discuss the time evolution of physical finite dimensional systems which are modelled by non-hermitian Hamiltonians. We address both general non-hermitian Hamiltonians and pseudo-hermitian ones. We apply the theory of Krein Spaces to construct metric operators and well-defined inner products. As an application, we study the stationary behaviour of dissipative One Axis Twisting Hamiltonians. We discuss the effect of decoherence under different coupling schemes.

Optimal Spin Squeezed Steady State induced by the dynamics of non-hermtian hamiltonians

In this work, we study the time evolution of a coherent spin state under the action of a non-hermitian hamiltonian. The hamiltonian is modeled by a one-axis twisting term plus a Lipkin-type interaction. We show that when the Lipkin interaction is switched on, depending on the relative values of the coupling constants, the initial state evolves into a steady squeezed state which minimizes the Uncertainty Relations, Intelligent Spin State. We apply this result to look for the generation of an steady intelligent spin state from an ensemble of nitrogen vacancy colour centers in diamond coupled to a mechanical resonator.

Generalized rotational hamiltonians from nonlinear angular momentum algebras

Higgs algebras are used to construct rotational Hamiltonians. The correspondence between the spectrum of a triaxial rotor and the spectrum of a cubic Higgs algebra is demonstrated. It is shown that a suitable choice of the parameters of the polynomial algebra allows for a precise identification of rotational properties. The harmonic limit is obtained by a contraction of the algebra, leading to a linear symmetry.

Modelling Pentaquark and Heptaquark States

A schematic model for hadronic states, based on constituent quarks and antiquarks and gluon pairs, is discussed. The phenomenological interaction between quarks and gluons is QCD motivated. The obtained hadronic spectrum leads to the identification of nucleon and $Δ$ resonances and to pentaquark and heptaquark states. The predicted lowest pentaquark state ($J^π = {1/2}^-$) lies at the energy of 1.5 GeV and it is associated to the observed $Θ^+(1540)$ state. For heptaquarks ($J^π = {1/2}^+, {3/2}^+$) the model predicts the lowest state at 2.5 GeV.

A schematic model for QCD. III : Hadronic states

The hadronic spectrum obtained in the framework of a QCD-inspired schematic model, is presented. The model is the extension of a previous version, whose basic degrees of freedom are constituent quarks and antiquarks, and gluons. The interaction between quarks and gluons is a phenomenological interaction and its parameters are fixed from data. The classification of the states, in terms of quark and antiquark and gluon configurations is based on symmetry considerations, and it is independent of the chosen interaction. Following this procedure, nucleon and $Δ$ resonances are identified, as well as various penta- and hepta-quarks states. The lowest pentaquarks state is predicted at 1.5 GeV and it has negative parity, while the lowest hepta-quarks state has positive parity and its energy is of the order of 2.5 GeV.

A schematic model for QCD I: Low energy meson states

A simple model for QCD is presented, which is able to reproduce the meson spectrum at low energy. The model is a Lipkin type model for quarks coupled to gluons. The basic building blocks are pairs of quark-antiquarks coupled to a definite flavor and spin. These pairs are coupled to pairs of gluons with spin zero. The multiplicity problem, which dictates that a given experimental state can be described in various manners, is removed when a particle-mixing interaction is turned on. In this first paper of a series we concentrates on the discussion of meson states at low energy, the so-called zero temperature limit of the theory. The treatment of baryonic states is indicated, also.

A schematic model for QCD II: finite temperature regime

A schematic model for QCD, developed in a previous paper, is applied to calculate meson properties in the high temperature (up to 0.5 GeV) regime. It is a Lipkin model for quark-antiquark pairs coupled to gluon pairs of spin zero. The partition function is constructed with the obtained meson spectrum and several thermodynamical observables are calculated, like: the energy density, heat capacity, as well as relative production rates of mesons and absolute production rates for pions and kaons. The model predictions show a qualitative agreement with data. Based on these results we advocate the use of the model as a toy model for QCD.

Fermion-Boson Interactions and Quantum Algebras

Quantum Algebras (q-algebras) are used to describe interactions between fermions and bosons. Particularly, the concept of a su_q(2) dynamical symmetry is invoked in order to reproduce the ground state properties of systems of fermions and bosons interacting via schematic forces. The structure of the proposed su_q(2) Hamiltonians, and the meaning of the corresponding deformation parameters, are discussed.

A schematic model for QCD at finite temperature

The simplest version of a class of toy models for QCD is presented. It is a Lipkin-type model, for the quark-antiquark sector, and, for the gluon sector, gluon pairs with spin zero are treated as elementary bosons. The model restricts to mesons with spin zero and to few baryonic states. The corresponding energy spectrum is discussed. We show that ground state correlations are essential to describe physical properties of the spectrum at low energies. Phase transitions are described in an effective manner, by using coherent states. The appearance of a Goldstone boson for large values of the interaction strength is discussed, as related to a collective state. The formalism is extended to consider finite temperatures. The partition function is calculated, in an approximate way, showing the convenience of the use of coherent states. The energy density, heat capacity and transitions from the hadronic phase to the quark-gluon plasma are calculated.

Neutron-proton pairing in the BCS approach

We investigate the BCS treatment of neutron-proton pairing involving time-reversed orbits. We conclude that an isospin-symmetric hamiltonian, treated with the help of the generalized Bogolyubov transformation, fails to describe the ground state pairing properties correctly. In order for the np isovector pairs to coexist with the like-particle pairs, one has to break the isospin symmetry of the hamiltonian by artificially increasing the strength of np pairing interaction above its isospin symmetric value. We conjecture that the np isovector pairing represents part (or most) of the congruence energy (Wigner term) in nuclear masses.
