The nuclear and Coulomb breakup of the weakly bound $^{6}$Li with targets in the range from A = 59 to 208

We have performed CDCC calculations for the $^{6}$Li + $^{59}$Co, $^{144}$Sm and $^{208}$Pb systems, to investigate the dependence of the relative importance of nuclear and Coulomb breakup on the target charge (mass) at near barrier energies. The calculations were in good agreement with the experimental elastic scattering angular distributions for these systems and then, their predictions to the nuclear, Coulomb and total breakup were investigated. Although the relative importance of the nuclear breakup is, as expected, larger for lighter targets, this effect is not very pronounced. We also investigate a scaling of the nuclear breakup with the target mass and we compare the predictions for the integrated total breakup cross sections with experimental fusion cross sections at similar energies.

Generalized correlation functions for conductance fluctuations and the mesoscopic spin Hall effect

We study the spin-Hall conductance fluctuations in ballistic mesoscopic systems. We obtain universal expressions for the spin and charge current fluctuations, cast in terms of current-current autocorrelation functions. We show that the latter are conveniently parametrized as deformed Lorentzian shape lines, functions of an external applied magnetic field and the Fermi energy. We find that the charge current fluctuations show quite unique statistical features at the symplectic-unitary crossover regime. Our findings are based on an evaluation of the generalized transmission coefficients correlation functions within the stub model and are amenable to experimental test.

Dark/Visible Parallel Universes and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis

We develop a model for visible matter-dark matter interaction based on the exchange of a massive gray boson called herein the Mulato. Our model hinges on the assumption that all known particles in the visible matter have their counterparts in the dark matter. We postulate six families of particles five of which are dark. This leads to the unavoidable postulation of six parallel worlds, the visible one and five invisible worlds. A close study of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), baryon asymmetries, cosmic microwave background (CMB) bounds, galaxy dynamics, together with the Standard Model assumptions, help us to set a limit on the mass and width of the new gauge boson. Modification of the statistics underlying the kinetic energy distribution of particles during the BBN is also discussed. The changes in reaction rates during the BBN due to a departure from the Debye-Hueckel electron screening model is also investigated.

Near-Far Description of Elastic and Breakup Reactions of Halo Nuclei

The angular distributions for elastic scattering and breakup of halo nuclei are analysed using a near-side/far-side decomposition within the framework of the dynamical eikonal approximation. This analysis is performed for 11Be impinging on Pb at 69AMeV. These distributions exhibit very similar features. In particular they are both near-side dominated, as expected from Coulomb-dominated reactions. The general shape of these distributions is sensitive mostly to the projectile-target interactions, but is also affected by the extension of the halo. This suggests that the link between elastic scattering and a possible loss of flux towards the breakup channel is not obvious.

Spin Accumulation Encoded in Electronic Noise for Mesoscopic Billiards with Finite Tunneling Rates

We study the effects of spin accumulation (inside reservoirs) on electronic transport with tunneling and reflections at the gates of a quantum dot. Within the stub model, the calculation focus on the current-current correlation function for the flux of electrons injected into the quantum dot. The linear response theory used allows to obtain the noise power in the regime of thermal crossover as a function of parameters that reveal the spin polarization at the reservoirs. The calculation is performed employing diagrammatic integration within the universal groups (ensembles of Dyson) for a non-ideal, non-equilibrium chaotic quantum dot. We show that changes in the spin distribution determines significant alteration in noise behavior at values of the tunneling rates close to zero, in the regime of strong reflection at the gates.

Nonmesonic Hyperon Weak Decay Spectra in $^{12}_Λ$C}

We study the nonmesonic weak decay (NMWD) $ΛN \to nN$ of the ${}^{12}_Λ C$ hypernucleus induced by the nucleon $N=n,p$ with transition rate $Γ_N$. The nuclear process is described by the interplay of two models; one describing the NMWD of hyperon $Λ$ in the nuclear environment, and the other taking into account the Final State Interaction (FSI) of the two outgoing nucleons with the residual nucleus. The first one is done in the framework of the Independent-Particle Shell-Model (IPSM), with the decay dynamics represented by the exchange of $π+ η+ K+ρ+ω+K^*$ mesons with usual parametrization. For the second one is used a time dependent multicollisional intranuclear cascade schema (implemented in the CRISP code - Collaboration Rio-São Paulo). The results obtained for inclusive and exclusive kinetic energy spectra, and the angular correlation are compared with recent data from KEK and FINUDA experiments. The calculated ratio $(Γ_n / Γ_p)^{\partial{\tiny FSI}}$, between the numbers of emitted back-to-back $nn$ and $np$ pairs, is in good agreement with the experimental data.

Complete Fusion Enhancement and Suppression of Weakly Bound Nuclei at Near Barrier Energies

We consider the influence of breakup channels on the complete fusion of weakly bound systems in terms of dynamic polarization potentials. It is argued that the enhancement of the cross section at sub-barrier energies may be consistent with recent experimental observations that nucleon transfer, often leading to breakup, is dominant compared to direct breakup. The main trends of the experimental complete fusion cross section for $^{6,7}$Li + $^{209}$Bi are analyzed in the framework of the DPP approach.

The Moore-Penrose Pseudoinverse. A Tutorial Review of the Theory

In the last decades the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse has found a wide range of applications in many areas of Science and became a useful tool for physicists dealing, for instance, with optimization problems, with data analysis, with the solution of linear integral equations, etc. The existence of such applications alone should attract the interest of students and researchers in the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse and in related sub jects, like the singular values decomposition theorem for matrices. In this note we present a tutorial review of the theory of the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse. We present the first definitions and some motivations and, after obtaining some basic results, we center our discussion on the Spectral Theorem and present an algorithmically simple expression for the computation of the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse of a given matrix. We do not claim originality of the results. We rather intend to present a complete and self-contained tutorial review, useful for those more devoted to applications, for those more theoretically oriented and for those who already have some working knowledge of the sub ject.

Conductance peaks in open quantum dots

We present a simple measure of the conductance fluctuations in open ballistic chaotic quantum dots, extending the number of maxima method originally proposed for the statistical analysis of compound nuclear reactions. The average number of extreme points (maxima and minima) in the dimensionless conductance, $T$, as a function of an arbitrary external parameter $Z$, is directly related to the autocorrelation function of $T(Z)$. The parameter $Z$ can be associated to an applied gate voltage causing shape deformation in quantum dot, an external magnetic field, the Fermi energy, etc.. The average density of maxima is found to be $<ρ_{Z}> = α_{Z}/Z_c$, where $α_{Z}$ is a universal constant and $Z_c$ is the conductance autocorrelation length, which is system specific. The analysis of $<ρ_{Z}>$ does not require large statistic samples, providing a quite amenable way to access information about parametric correlations, such as $Z_c$.

A Democratic Gauge Model for Dark/Visible Matter Symmetry

We develop a model for visible matter-dark matter interaction based on the exchange of a weakly interacting massive gauge boson called herein the WIMG. Our model hinges on the assumption that all known particles in the visible matter have their counterparts in the dark matter. We postulate six families of particles five of which are dark. This leads to the unavoidable postulation of six parallel worlds, the visible one and five invisible worlds. We give arguments on particle decays and lifetimes that set a limit on the mass of the WIMG, the gray boson responsible for the very meager communication among these worlds. The 5:1 ratio of dark to visible matter is taken for granted.

Enhancement of sub-barrier fusion of two-neutron halo nuclei

The tunneling of composite systems, where breakup may occur during the barrier penetration process is considered in connection with the fusion of halo-like radioactive, neutron- and proton-rich nuclei on heavy targets. The large amount of recent and new data clearly indicates that breakup hinders the fusion at near and below the Coulomb barrier energies. However, clear evidence for the halo enhancements, seems to over ride the breakup hindrance at lower energies, owing, to a large extent, to the extended matter density distribution. In particular we report here that at sub-barrier energies the fusion cross section of the Borromean two-neutron halo nucleus $^{6}$He with the actinide nucleus $^{238}$U is significantly enhanced compared to the fusion of a no-halo $^{6}$He. This conclusion differs from that of the original work, where it was claimed that no such enhancement ensues. This sub-barrier fusion enhancement was also observed in the $^{6}$He + $^{209}$% Bi system. The role of the corresponding easily excitable low lying dipole pygmy resonance in these systems is therefore significant. The consequence of this overall enhanced fusion of halo nuclei at sub-barrier energies, on stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis is evident.

The Coulomb phase shift revisited

We investigate the Coulomb phase shift, and derive and analyze new and more precise analytical formulae. We consider next to leading order terms to the Stirling approximation, and show that they are important at small values of the angular momentum $l$ and other regimes. We employ the uniform approximation. The use of our expressions in low energy scattering of charged particles is discussed and some comparisons are made with other approximation methods.

The Invisible Quantum Barrier

We construct the invisible quantum barrier which represents the phenomenon of quantum reflection using the available data. We use the Abel equation to invert the data. The resulting invisible quantum barrier is double-valued in both axes. We study this invisible barrier in the case of atom and Bose-Einstein Condensate reflection from a solid silicon surface. A time-dependent, one-spatial dimension Gross-Pitaevskii equation is solved for the BEC case. We found that the BEC behaves very similarly to the single atom except for size effects, which manifest themselves in a maximum in the reflectivity at small distances from the wall. The effect of the atom-atom interaction on the BEC reflection and correspondingly on the invisible barrier is found to be appreciable at low velocities and comparable to the finite size effect. The trapping of ultracold atoms or BEC between two walls is discussed.

Solitons of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates modulated in space and time

In this paper we present soliton solutions of two coupled nonlinear Schodinger equations modulated in the bspace and time. The approach allows us to obatin solitons with large variety of solutions depending on the nonlinearity and the potential profiles. As examples we show three cases with soliton solution in such system, one of them with potential varying between repulsive and attractive behavior and the others with nonlinearity localized and delocalized, respectively.

Nonlinear Schrodinger equation with chaotic, random, and nonperiodic nonlinearity

In this paper we deal with a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with chaotic, random, and nonperiodic cubic nonlinearity. Our goal is to study the soliton evolution, with the strength of the nonlinearity perturbed in the space and time coordinates and to check its robustness under these conditions. Comparing with a real system, the perturbation can be related to, e.g., impurities in crystalline structures, or coupling to a thermal reservoir which, on the average, enhances the nonlinearity. We also discuss the relevance of such random perturbations to the dynamics of Bose-Einstein Condensates and their collective excitations and transport.

Continuum-continuum coupling and polarization potentials for weakly bound system

We investigate the influence of couplings among continuum states in collisions of weakly bound nuclei. For this purpose, we compare cross sections for complete fusion, breakup and elastic scattering evaluated by continuum discretized coupled channel (CDCC) calculations, including and not including these couplings. In our study, we discuss this influence in terms of the polarization potentials that reproduce the elastic wave function of the coupled coupled channel method in single channel calculations. We find that the inclusion of couplings among the continuum states renders the real part of the polarization potential more repulsive, whereas it leads to weaker apsorption to the breakup channel. We show that the non-inclusion of continuum-continuum couplings in CDCC calculations may not lead to qualitative and quantitative wrong conclusions.

How complex a complex network of equal nodes can be?

Positive Lyapunov exponents measure the asymptotic exponential divergence of nearby trajectories of a dynamical system. Not only they quantify how chaotic a dynamical system is, but since their sum is an upper bound for the entropy by the Ruelle inequality, they also provide a convenient way to quantify the complexity of an active network. We present numerical evidences that for a large class of active networks, the sum of the positive Lyapunov exponents is bounded by the sum of the positive Lyapunov exponents of the corresponding synchronization manifold, the last quantity being in principle easier to compute than the latter. This fact is a consequence of the property that for an active network considered here, the amount of information produced is more affected by the interactions between the nodes than by the topology of the network. Using the inequality described above, we explain how to predict the behavior of a large active network only knowing the information provided by an active network consisting of two coupled nodes.
