Bessel type inequalities in Hilbert C*-modules

Regarding the generalizations of the Bessel inequality in Hilbert spaces which are due to Bombiari and Boas--Bellman, we obtain a version of the Bessel inequality and some generalizations of this inequality in the framework of Hilbert $C^*$-modules.

Generalizations of Bohr's inequality in Hilbert $C^*$-modules

We present a new operator equality in the framework of Hilbert $C^*$-modules. As a consequence, we get an extension of the Euler--Lagrange type identity in the setting of Hilbert bundles as well as several generalized operator Bohr's inequalities due to O. Hirzallah, W.-S. Cheung-J.E. Pecaric and F. Zhang.

Constructions preserving $n$-weak amenability of Banach algebras

A surjective bounded homomorphism fails to preserve $n$-weak amenability, in general. We however show that it preserves the property if the involved homomorphism enjoys a right inverse. We examine this fact for certain homomorphisms on several Banach algebras.

An operator extension of Bohr's inequality

We establish an operator extension of the following generalization of Bohr's inequality, due to M.P. Vasić and D.J. Kečkić: $$|\sum_{i=1}^n z_i|^r \leq (\sum_{i=1}^n α_i^{1/(1-r)})^{r-1}\sum_{i=1}^n α_i|z_i|^r \quad (r>1, z_i \in{\mathbb C}, α_i>0, 1 \leq i \leq n) .$$ We also present some norm inequalities related to our noncommutative generalization of Bohr's inequality.

A characterization of Hilbert $C^*$-modules over finite dimensional $C^*$-algebras

We show that the unit ball of a full Hilbert $C^*$-module is sequentially compact in a certain weak topology if and only if the underlying $C^*$-algebra is finite dimensional. This provides an answer to the question posed in J. Chmieliński et al [Perturbation of the Wigner equation in inner product $C^*$-modules, J. Math. Phys. 49 (2008), no. 3, 033519; arXiv:0801.2726].

Schatten p-norm inequalities related to a characterization of inner product spaces

Let $A_1, ... A_n$ be operators acting on a separable complex Hilbert space such that $\sum_{i=1}^n A_i=0$. It is shown that if $A_1, ... A_n$ belong to a Schatten $p$-class, for some $p>0$, then 2^{p/2}n^{p-1} \sum_{i=1}^n \|A_i\|^p_p \leq \sum_{i,j=1}^n\|A_i\pm A_j\|^p_p for $0<p\leq 2$, and the reverse inequality holds for $2\leq p<\infty$. Moreover, \sum_{i,j=1}^n\|A_i\pm A_j\|^2_p \leq 2n^{2/p} \sum_{i=1}^n \|A_i\|^2_p for $0<p\leq 2$, and the reverse inequality holds for $2\leq p<\infty$. These inequalities are related to a characterization of inner product spaces due to E.R. Lorch.

Perturbation of the Wigner equation in inner product C*-modules

Let $\A$ be a $C^*$-algebra and $\B$ be a von Neumann algebra that both act on a Hilbert space $\Ha$. Let $\M$ and $\N$ be inner product modules over $\A$ and $\B$, respectively. Under certain assumptions we show that for each mapping $f\colon{\mathcal M} \to {\mathcal N}$ satisfying $$\||\ip{f(x)}{f(y)}|-|\ip{x}{y}| \|\leqϕ(x,y)\qquad (x,y\in{\mathcal M}),$$ where $ϕ$ is a control function, there exists a solution $I\colon{\mathcal M} \to {\mathcal N}$ of the Wigner equation $$|\ip{I(x)}{I(y)}|=|\ip{x}{y}|\qquad (x, y \in {\mathcal M})$$ such that $$\|f(x)-I(x)\|\leq\sqrt{ϕ(x,x)} \qquad (x\in {\mathcal M}).$$

A Kadison-Sakai Type Theorem

The celebrated Kadison--Sakai theorem states that every derivation on a von Neumann algebra is inner. In this paper, we prove this theorem for ultraweakly continuous *-σ-derivations, where σis an ultraweakly continuous surjective *-linear mapping. We decompose a $σ$-derivation into a sum of an inner σ-derivation and a multiple of a homomorphism. The so-called *-(σ,τ)-derivations are also discussed.

Fuzzy almost quadratic functions

We approximate a fuzzy almost quadratic function by a quadratic function in a fuzzy sense. More precisely, we establish a fuzzy Hyers--Ulam--Rassias stability of the quadratic functional equation $f(x+y)+f(x-y)=2f(x)+2f(y)$. Our result can be regarded as a generalization of the stability phenomenon in the framework of normed spaces. We also prove a generalized version of fuzzy stability of the Pexiderized quadratic functional equation $f(x+y)+f(x-y)=2g(x)+2h(y)$.

Achievement of continuity of $(ϕ,ψ)$-derivations without continuity

Suppose that $\calak$ is a $C^*$-algebra acting on a Hilbert space $\calhk$, and that $ϕ, ψ$ are mappings from $\calak$ into $B(\calhk)$ which are not assumed to be necessarily linear or continuous. A $(ϕ, ψ)$-derivation is a linear mapping $d: \calak \to B(\calhk)$ such that $$d(ab)=ϕ(a)d(b)+d(a)ψ(b)\quad (a,b\in \calak).$$ We prove that if $ϕ$ is a multiplicative (not necessarily linear) $*$-mapping, then every $*$-$(ϕ,ϕ)$-derivation is automatically continuous. Using this fact, we show that every $*$-$(ϕ,ψ)$-derivation $d$ from $\calak$ into $B(\calhk)$ is continuous if and only if the $*$-mappings $ϕ$ and $ψ$ are left and right $d$-continuous, respectively.

$σ$-Derivations in Banach Algebras

Introducing the notions of (inner) $σ$-derivation, (inner) $σ$-endomorphism and one-parameter group of $σ$-endomorphisms ($σ$-dynamics) on a Banach algebra, we correspond to each $σ$-dynamics a $σ$-derivation named as its $σ$-infinitesimal generator. We show that the $σ$-infinitesimal generator of a $σ$-dynamics of inner $σ$-endomorphisms is an inner $σ$-derivation and deal with the converse. We also establish a nice generalized Leibniz formula and extend the Kleinenckr--Sirokov theorem for $σ$-derivations under certain conditions.

Generalized Derivations on Modules

Let $A$ be a Banach algebra and $M$ be a Banach right $A$-module. A linear map $δ: M\to M$ is called a generalized derivation if there exists a derivation $d : A \to A$ such that $$δ(xa)=δ(x)a + x d(a) \quad (a \in A, x \in M).$$ In this paper, we associate a triangular Banach algebra ${\mathcal T}$ to Banach $A$-module $M$ and investigate the relation between generalized derivations on $M$ and derivations on ${\mathcal T}$. In particular, we prove that the so-called generalized first cohomology group of $M$ is isomorphic to the first cohomology group of ${\mathcal T}$.

Orthogonal Constant Mappings in Isosceles Orthogonal Spaces

In this paper we introduce the notion of orthogonally constant mapping in an isosceles orthogonal space and establish stability of orthogonally constant mappings. As an application, we discuss the orthogonal stability of the Pexiderized quadratic equation $f(x+y)+g(x+y)=h(x)+k(y)$.

Stability of Derivations on Hilbert $C^*$-Modules

Consider the functional equation ${\mathcal E}_1(f) = {\mathcal E}_2(f) ({\mathcal E})$ in a certain framework. We say a function $f_0$ is an approximate solution of $({\mathcal E})$ if ${\mathcal E}_1(f_0)$ and ${\mathcal E}_2(f_0)$ are close in some sense. The stability problem is whether or not there is an exact solution of $({\mathcal E})$ near $f_0$. In this paper, the stability of derivations on Hilbert $C^*$-modules is investigated in the spirit of Hyers--Ulam--Rassias.

$q$-norms are really norms

Replacing the triangle inequality, in the definition of a norm, by $|x + y| ^{q}\leq 2^{q-1}(|x| ^{q} + |y| ^{q}) $, we introduce the notion of a q-norm. We establish that every q-norm is a norm in the usual sense, and that the converse is true as well.

Dynamical Systems on Hilbert C*-Modules

We investigate the generalized derivations and show that every generalized derivation on a simple Hilbert $C^*$-module either is closable or has a dense range. We also describe dynamical systems on a full Hilbert $C^*$-module ${\mathcal M}$ over a $C^*$-algebra ${\mathcal A}$ as a one-parameter group of unitaries on ${\mathcal M}$ and prove that if $α: \R\to U({\mathcal M})$ is a dynamical system, where $U({\mathcal M})$ denotes the set of all unitary operator on ${\mathcal M}$, then we can correspond a $C^*$-dynamical system $α^{'}$ on ${\mathcal A}$ such that if $δ$ and $d$ are the infinitesimal generators of $α$ and $α^{'}$ respectively, then $δ$ is a $d$-derivation.
