Neutrino-production of single pions: dipole description

The light-cone distribution amplitudes for the axial current are derived within the instanton vacuum model (IVM), which incorporates nonperturbative effects including spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. This allows to extend applicability of the dipole approach, usually used in the perturbative domain, down to $Q^{2}\to0$, where partially conserved axial current (PCAC) imposes a relation between the neutrino-production cross section and the one induced by pions. A dramatic breakdown of the Adler relation (AR) for diffractive neutrino-production of pions, caused by absorptive corrections, was revealed recently in arXiv:1105.1711. Indeed, comparing with the cross section predicted by the dipole phenomenology at $Q^{2}\to0$ on a proton target we confirmed the sizable deviation from the value given by the AR, as was estimated in arXiv:1105.1711 within a simplified two-channel model. The dipole approach also confirms that in the black-disc limit, where the absorptive corrections maximize, the diffractive cross section ceases, on the contrary to the expectation based on PCAC.

Breakdown of PCAC in diffractive neutrino interactions

We test the hypothesis of partially conserved axial current (PCAC) in high energy diffractive neutrino production of pions. Since the pion pole contribution to the Adler relation (AR) is forbidden by conservation of the lepton current, the heavier states, like the a_1 pole, ρ-π-cut, etc., control the lifetime of the hadronic fluctuations of the neutrino. We evaluate the deviation from the AR in diffractive neutrino-production of pions on proton and nuclear targets. At high energies, when all the relevant time scales considerably exceed the size of the target, the AR explicitly breaks down on an absorptive target, such as a heavy nucleus. In this regime, close to the black disc limit, the off-diagonal diffractive amplitudes vanish, while the diagonal one, π->π, which enters the AR, maximizes and saturates the unitarity bound. At lower energies, in the regime of short lifetime of heavy hadronic fluctuations the AR is restored, i.e. it is not altered by the nuclear effects.

DDVCS on nucleons and nuclei

In this paper we evaluate the double deeply virtual Compton scattering on nucleons and nuclei in the framework of the color dipole model. Both the effects of quark and the gluon shadowing are taken into account.

Shadowing in Compton scattering on nuclei

We evaluate the shadowing effect in deeply virtual and real Compton scattering on nuclei in the framework of the color dipole model. We rely on the soft photon wave function derived in the instanton vacuum model, and employ the impact parameter dependent phenomenological elastic dipole amplitude. Both the effects of quark and the gluon shadowing are taken into account.

QCD isospin breaking ChPT low-energy constants from the instanton vacuum

In the framework of the instanton vacuum model we evaluate the Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) low-energy constants h_3,l_7. We found that in the instanton vacuum model the constant l_7 is very sensitive to the shape of the instanton and the instanton vacuum parameters. We evaluated the constant l_7 for two different zero-mode profiles and as a function of the average instanton size ρand inter-instanton distance R. Our result agrees with an old "order of magnitude" estimate of this constant from [1]. The obtained value of l_7 implies that the pure QCD contribution to the pion mass difference is small, ~1% of the observed experimental value.

Real Compton Scattering via Color Dipoles

We study photoabsorption reaction and real Compton scattering (RCS) within the color dipole model. We rely on a photon wave function derived in the instanton vacuum model, and on the energy dependent phenomenological elastic dipole amplitude. Data for the photoabsorption cross section at high energies agree with our parameter free calculations. We also provide predictions for the differential RCS cross section. Although no data for small angle Compton scattering are available so far, this process can be measured in ultra-peripheral hadronic and nuclear collisions at the LHC.

Leading twist nuclear shadowing, nuclear generalized parton distributions and nuclear DVCS at small x

We generalize the leading twist theory of nuclear shadowing and calculate quark and gluon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of spinless nuclei. We predict very large nuclear shadowing for nuclear GPDs. In the limit of the purely transverse momentum transfer, our nuclear GPDs become impact-parameter-dependent nuclear parton distributions (PDFs). Nuclear shadowing induces nontrivial correlations between the impact parameter b and the light-cone fraction x. We make predictions for the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) amplitude and the DVCS cross section on Pb-208 at high energies. We calculate the cross section of the Bethe-Heitler (BH) process and address the issue of the extraction of the DVCS signal from the e A \to e γA cross section. We find that the e A \to e γA differential cross section is dominated by DVCS at the momentum transfer t near the minima of the nuclear form factor. We also find that nuclear shadowing leads to dramatic oscillations of the DVCS beam-spin asymmetry, A_{LU}, as a function of t. The position of the points where A_{LU} changes sign is directly related to the magnitude of nuclear shadowing.

DVCS via color dipoles: Nonperturbative effects

We study the DVCS amplitude within the color dipole approach. The light-cone wave function of a real photon is evaluated in the instanton vacuum model. Our parameter free calculations are able to describe H1 data, both the absolute values and the $t$-dependences, at medium-high values of $Q^{2}$. The $Q^{2}$ dependence is found to be sensitive to the choice of the phenomenological cross section fitted to DIS data.

Generalized parton distributions and Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering in Color Glass Condensate model

Within the framework of the Color Glass Condensate model, we evaluate quark and gluon Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) and the cross section of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) in the small-$x_{B}$ region. We demonstrate that the DVCS cross section becomes independent of energy in the limit of very small $x_{B}$, which clearly indicates saturation of the DVCS cross section. Our predictions for the GPDs and the DVCS cross section at high-energies can be tested at the future Electron-Ion Collider and in ultra-peripheral nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC.

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering on nucleons and nuclei in generalized vector meson dominance model

We consider Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) on nucleons and nuclei in the framework of generalized vector meson dominance (GVMD) model. We demonstrate that the GVMD model provides a good description of the HERA data on the dependence of the proton DVCS cross section on Q^2, W (at Q^2=4 GeV^2) and t. At Q^2 = 8 GeV^2, the soft W-behavior of the GVMD model somewhat underestimates the W-dependence of the DVCS cross section due to the hard contribution not present in the GVMD model. We estimate 1/Q^2 power-suppressed corrections to the DVCS amplitude and the DVCS cross section and find them large. We also make predictions for the nuclear DVCS amplitude and cross section in the kinematics of the future Electron-Ion Collider. We predict significant nuclear shadowing, which matches well predictions of the leading-twist nuclear shadowing in DIS on nuclei.

Low energy constants of \chiPT from the instanton vacuum model

In the framework of the instanton vacuum model we make expansion over the current mass m and number of colors N_c and evaluate ${\cal O}(1/N_c, m, m/N_c, m \ln m/N_c)$-corrections to the dynamical quark mass M, the quark condensate $<\bar qq>$, the pion mass M_πand decay constant F_π. There are several sources of these corrections: meson loops, finite size of the instanton distribution and the quark-quark "tensor" interaction terms. In contrast to the expectations, we found that numerically the 1/N_c-corrections to dynamical mass are large and mostly come from meson loops. As a consequence, we have large 1/N_c-corrections to all the other quantities. To provide the values of $F_π(m=0), \ave{\bar qq(m=0)}$ in agreement with \chiPT, we offer a new set of parameters ρ, R. Finally, we find the low-energy SU(2)_f chiral lagrangian constants $\bar l_3, \bar l_4$ in a rather good correspondence with the phenomenology.

On the A-dependence of nuclear generalized parton distributions

We perform a microscopic evaluation of nuclear GPDs for spin-0 nuclei in the framework of the Walecka model. We demonstrate that the meson (non-nucleon) degrees of freedom dramatically influence nuclear GPDs, which is revealed in the non-trivial and unexpected A-dependence of DVCS observables. In particular, we find that the first moment of the nuclear D-term, d_A(0) ~ A^2.26, which confirms the earlier prediction of M.Polyakov. We find that in the HERMES kinematics, contrary to the free proton case, the nuclear meson degrees of freedom in large nuclei enhance the nuclear DVCS amplitude which becomes comparable to the Bethe-Heitler amplitude, and, thus, give the non-trivial A-dependence to the DVCS asymmetries: as a function of the atomic number the beam-charge asymmetry increases whereas the beam-spin asymmetry decreases slowly.

Meson-loop contributions to the quark condensate from the instanton vacuum

We investigate the quark condensate of the QCD vacuum within the instanton vacuum model. We calculate the meson-loop contributions to the dynamical quark mass and quark condensate to ${\cal O}(1/N_c)$-, ${\cal O}(m/N_c)$-, and ${\cal O}((m\ln m) /N_c)$-order corrections. We find that the meson (especially pion) loops provide substantial contributions to the dynamical quark mass and as a result to the quark condensate. The results indicate that the $1/N_c$ corrections should be reconsidered in the systematical way. The present results are consistent with those from chiral perturbation theory.

Knot soliton in Weinberg-Salam model

We study numerically the topological knot solution suggested recently in the Weinberg-Salam model. Applying the SU(2) gauge invariant Abelian projection we demonstrate that the restricted part of the Weinberg-Salam Lagrangian containing the interaction of the neutral boson with the Higgs scalar can be reduced to the Ginzburg-Landau model with the hidden SU(2) symmetry. The energy of the knot composed from the neutral boson and Higgs field has been evaluated by using the variational method with a modified Ward ansatz. The obtained numerical value is 39 Tev which provides the upper bound on the electroweak knot energy.

Magnetic susceptibility of the QCD vacuum

We investigate the magnetic susceptibility of the QCD vacuum, based on the instanton vacuum. Starting from the instanton liquid model for the instanton vacuum, we derive the light-quark partition function $Z[V,T,\hat{m}]$ in the presence of the current quark mass $\hat{m}$ as well as the external Abelian vector and tensor fields. We calculate a two-point correlation function relevant for the magnetic susceptibility and derive it beyond the chiral limit. We obtain for the different flavors the following magnetic susceptibility: $χ_{u,d}< iψ_{u,d}^\dagger ψ_{u,d}>_0 \sim 40\sim45 {\rm MeV}$, while $χ_{s}< iψ_s^\dagger ψ_s >_0 \simeq 6\sim 10 {\rm MeV}$ with the quark condensate $ _0$.
