The electromagnetic dipole operator effect on B -> Xs gamma at O(alpha_s^2)

The flavor-changing electromagnetic dipole operator O_7 gives the dominant contribution to the B -> Xs gamma decay rate. We calculate two-loop QCD corrections to its matrix element together with the corresponding bremsstrahlung contributions. The optical theorem is applied, and the relevant imaginary parts of three-loop diagrams are computed following the lines of our recent t -> Xb W calculation. The complete result allows us to test the validity of the naive non-abelianization (NNA) approximation that has been previously applied to estimate the NNLO QCD correction to Gamma(B -> Xs gamma)/Gamma(B -> Xu e nu). When both decay widths are normalized to m^5_{b,R} in the same renormalization scheme R, the calculated O(alpha_s^2) correction is sizeable (~ 6%), and the NNA estimate is about 1/3 too large. On the other hand, when the ratio of the decay widths is written as S*(m_b(m_b)/m_{b,pole})^2, the calculated O(alpha_s^2) correction to S is at the level of 1% for both the complete and the NNA results.

Next-to-next-to-leading order calculations for heavy-to-light decays

We present technical aspects of next-to-next-to-leading order calculations for heavy-to-light decays such as top quark decay, semileptonic b quark decay into a u quark, muon decay, and radiative decays like b -> s gamma. Algebraic reduction of integrals to a set of master integrals is described, methods of determining the master integrals are presented, and a complete list of master integrals is given. As a sample application, the top quark decay width is calculated to O(alpha_s^2) accuracy.

Estimate of BR(B -> X_s gamma) at O(alpha_s^2)

Combining our results for various O(alpha_s^2) corrections to the weak radiative B-meson decay, we are able to present the first estimate of the branching ratio at the next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. We find BR(B -> X_s gamma) = (3.15 +_ 0.23) x 10^-4 for E_gamma > 1.6 GeV in the B-meson rest frame. The four types of uncertainties: non-perturbative (5%), parametric (3%), higher-order (3%) and m_c-interpolation ambiguity (3%) have been added in quadrature to obtain the total error.

Enhancement of the hadronic b quark decays

A class of previously unknown strong-interaction corrections is found to enhance the rate of non-leptonic decays of the b quark by 5-8 percent. This effect decreases the predicted fraction of semi-leptonic decays and brings it into fair agreement with experimental results. As well as solving a long-standing puzzle of measurements disagreeing with the Standard Model prediction, our work suggests a way for future precise studies of non-leptonic $b$ quark decays and their application to searching for "new physics."

Non-abelian color dielectric - towards the effective model of the low energy QCD

Lattice motivated triplet color scalar field theory is analyzed. We consider non-minimal as well as covariant derivative coupling with SU(2) gauge fields. Field configurations generated by external electric sources are presented. Moreover non-Abelian magnetic monopoles are found. Dependence on the spatial coordinates in the obtained solutions is identical as in the usual Abelian case. We show also that after a decomposition of the fields a modified Faddeev-Niemi action can be obtained. It contains explicit O(3) symmetry breaking term parameterized by the condensate of an isoscalar field. Due to that Goldstone bosons observed in the original Faddeev-Niemi model are removed.

Color dielectric model with two scalar fields

SU(2) Yang-Mills theory coupled in a non-minimal way to two scalar fields is discussed. For the massless scalar fields a family of finite energy solutions generated by an external, static electric charge is found. Additionally, there is a single solution which can be interpreted as confining one. Similar solutions have been obtained in the magnetic sector. In case of massive scalar fields the Coulomb problem is investigated. We find that asymptotic behavior of the fields can also, for some values of the parameter of the model, give confinement of the electric charge. Quite interesting one glueball--meson coupling gives the linear confining potential. Finally, it is shown that for one non-dynamical scalar field we derive the color dielectric generalization of the Pagels--Tomboulis model.

On (2+1) Dimensional Topologically Massive Non-linear Electrodynamics

The (2+1) dimensional non-linear electrodynamics, the so called Pagels--Tomboulis electrodynamics, with the Chern--Simons term is considered. We obtain "generalized self--dual equation" and find the corresponding generalized massive Chern--Simons Lagrangian. Similar results for (2+1) massive dilaton electrodynamics have been obtained.

Massive and Massless Scalar Field and Confinement

Generalization of QCD motivated classical SU(2) Yang--Mills theory coupled to the scalar field is discussed. The massive scalar field, corresponding the scalar glueball, provides a confining potential for static, point-like, external sources. In case of massless scalar field screening solutions are found. However, there is a confining sector as well. Both, massive and massless confining solutions are compared with phenomenological potentials. The case of non-dynamical permittivity is also discussed.

Monopole-anti-monopole bounded pairs

We show that in the dual version of the generalized Dick model monopole-anti-monopole pairs have finite energy. It is possible to use the potential between monopole and anti-monopole to find the mass spectrum of the glueballs. The results are discussed in connection with the Faddeev-Niemi model and toroidal soliton solutions. Some others finite energy configurations are found, both in the magnetic and electric sector.

Quark-antiquark potentials from a scalar field in SU(2) YM

A generalized Dick model with a potential term is discussed. The solution originating from a static, pointlike, color source is found to have a confining part. The comparison with a wide spectrum of phenomenological quark-antiquark potentials is presented.

Generalization of the Dick Model

We discuss a model with a massless scalar coupling to the Yang-Mills SU(2) gauge field in four-dimensional space-time. The solutions from static, pointlike colour source are given. There exists not only solutions with finite energy but also singular one which describes confinement. The confining potential depends on the $δ$ parameter of our model. The regular magnetic monopole solutions as well as the singular dyon configurations are also obtained. We fit the $δ$ parameter to the experimental data.

Electrostatics of Pagels-Tomboulis effective model

Long time ago Pagels and Tomboulis have proposed a model for the nonperturbative gluodynamics which in the Abelian sector can be reduced to a strongly nonlinear electrodynamics. In the present paper we investigate Abelian, static solutions with external charges in that model. Nonzero total charge implies that the corresponding field has infinite energy due to slow fall off at large distances. For a pair of opposite charges the energy is finite -- it grows like $R^α$, $0<α<1$ with the distance $R$ between the charges.
