Calibration and performance of the LHCb calorimeters in Run 1 and 2 at the LHC

The calibration and performance of the LHCb Calorimeter system in Run 1 and 2 at the LHC are described. After a brief description of the sub-detectors and of their role in the trigger, the calibration methods used for each part of the system are reviewed. The changes which occurred with the increase of beam energy in Run 2 are explained. The performances of the calorimetry for $γ$ and $π^0$ are detailed. A few results from collisions recorded at $\sqrt {s}$ = 7, 8 and 13 TeV are shown.

The Cesium Source Calibration and Monitoring System of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter: Design, Construction and Results

This article describes the design, construction and use of a calibration and monitoring system, based on movable 137Cs gamma-ray sources, for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter (TileCal). The sources, propelled by a water-based liquid through tubes that traverse all the calorimeter's cells, produce signals that precisely characterise the response of each tile, thereby providing very granular and accurate data on the response of TileCal to particles. The system has been used to guide and control the quality of the optical instrumentation of all TileCal modules, to set and equalise the dynamic range of the response to physics data, and to set the energy scale of the readout system. In the ATLAS cavern, periodic measurements of the whole detector's response to 137Cs sources allow monitoring the uniformity and stability of all the calorimeter's cells as well as maintaining precise knowledge of its energy calibration. The design of the source hydraulic drive system's hardware and software, the data acquisition system and the data processing algorithms are described. Finally, the results of this two-decade program are shown.

Detection of $D^{\pm}$ mesons production in pA-interactions at 70 GeV

The results of analysis SERP-E-184 experiment data, obtained with 70 GeV proton beam irradiation of active target with carbon, silicon and lead plates are presented. For 3-prongs charged charmed mesons decays, event selection criteria were developed and detection efficiency was calculated with detailed simulation using FRITIOF7.02 and GEANT3.21 programs. Signals of decays were found and charm production inclusive cross sections estimated at near threshold energy. The lifetimes and A-dependence of cross section were measured. Yields of D mesons and their ratios in comparison with data of other experiments and theoretical predictions are presented.

Relative luminosity measurement of the LHC with the ATLAS forward calorimeter

In this paper it is shown that a measurement of the relative luminosity changes at the LHC may be obtained by analysing the currents drawn from the high voltage power supplies of the electromagnetic section of the forward calorimeter of the ATLAS detector. The method was verified with a reproduction of a small section of the ATLAS forward calorimeter using proton beams of known beam energies and variable intensities at the U-70 accelerator at IHEP in Protvino, Russia. The experimental setup and the data taking during a test beam run in April 2008 are described in detail. A comparison of the measured high voltage currents with reference measurements from beam intensity monitors shows a linear dependence on the beam intensity. The non-linearities are measured to be less than 0.5 % combining statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Registration of neutral charmed mesons production and their decays in pA-interactions at 70 GeV with SVD-2 setup

The results of data handling for E-184 experiment obtained with 70 GeV proton beam irradiation of active target with carbon, silicon and lead plates are presented. Two-prongs neutral charmed D0 and Ď0 -mesons decays were selected. Signal / background ratio was (51+/-17) / (38+/-13). Registration efficiency for mesons was defined and evaluation for charm production cross section at threshold energy is presented: sigma(cĉ) = 7.1 +/- 2.4(stat.) +/- 1.4(syst.) (μ/nucleon).

Search for $f_1(1285) \to π^+π^-π^0$ decay with VES detector

The isospin violating decay $f_1(1285)\toπ^+π^-π^0$ has been studied at VES facility. This study is based at the statistics acquired in $π^- Be$ interactions at 27, 36.6 and 41 GeV/c in diffractive reaction $π^- N \to (f_1 π^-) N$. The $f_1(1285) \to π^+π^-π^0$ decay is observed. The ratio of decay probabilities $BR(f_1(1285) \to π^+π^-π^0)$ to $BR(f_1(1285) \to ηπ^+π^-) \cdot BR(η\to γγ)$ is $\sim\:1.4%$.

Study of the K- -> mu- nu pi0 decay

The decay $K^{-} \to μ^{-} \barν π^{0}$ has been studied using in-flight decays detected with ``ISTRA+'' setup operating in the 25 GeV negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. About 112K events were used for the analysis. The $λ_{+}$ and $λ_{0}$ slope parameters of the decay formfactors $f_{+}(t)$, $f_{0}(t)$ have been measured : $λ_{+}= 0.0321 \pm 0.004$(stat) $\pm 0.002$(syst) $λ_{0}= 0.0209 \pm 0.004$(stat) $\pm 0.002$(syst); the correlation $d λ_{0}/d λ_{+}=-0.46$ The limits on the possible tensor and scalar couplings have been derived: $f_{T}/f_{+}(0)=-0.021 \pm 0.028$(stat) $\pm 0.014$(theory); $f_{S}/f_{+}(0)=0.004 \pm 0.005$(stat) $\pm 0.005$(theory)
