Two-particle Hadamard walk on dynamically percolated line and circle

Asymptotic dynamics of a Hadamard walk of two non-interacting quantum particles on a dynamically percolated finite line or a circle is investigated. We construct a basis of the attractor space of the corresponding random-unitary dynamics and prove the completeness of our solution. In comparison to the one-particle case, the structure of the attractor space is much more complex, resulting in intriguing asymptotic dynamics. General results are illustrated on two examples. First, for circles of length not divisible by 4 the boundary conditions reduces the number of attractors considerably, allowing for fully analytic solution. Second, we investigate line of length 4 and determine the asymptotic cycle of reduced coin states and position distributions, focusing on the correlations between the two particles. Our results show that a random unitary evolution, which is a combination of quantum dynamics and a classical stochasticity, leads to correlations between initially uncorrelated particles. This is not possible for purely unitary evolution of non-interacting quantum particles. The shared dynamically percolated graph can thus be considered as a weak form of interaction.

Survival probability of the Grover walk on the ladder graph

We provide a detailed analysis of the survival probability of the Grover walk on the ladder graph with an absorbing sink. This model was discussed in Mare\v s et al., Phys. Rev. A 101, 032113 (2020), as an example of counter-intuitive behaviour in quantum transport where it was found that the survival probability decreases with the length of the ladder $L$, despite the fact that the number of dark states increases. An orthonormal basis in the dark subspace is constructed, which allows us to derive a closed formula for the survival probability. It is shown that the course of the survival probability as a function of $L$ can change from increasing and converging exponentially quickly to decreasing and converging like $L^{-1}$ simply by attaching a loop to one of the corners of the ladder. The interplay between the initial state and the graph configuration is investigated.

Stability of point spectrum for three-state quantum walks on a line

Evolution operators of certain quantum walks possess, apart from the continuous part, also point spectrum. The existence of eigenvalues and the corresponding stationary states lead to partial trapping of the walker in the vicinity of the origin. We analyze the stability of this feature for three-state quantum walks on a line subject to homogenous coin deformations. We find two classes of coin operators that preserve the point spectrum. These new classes of coins are generalizations of coins found previously by different methods and shed light on the rich spectrum of coins that can drive discrete-time quantum walks.

Directional correlations in quantum walks with two particles

Quantum walks on the line with a single particle possess a classical analog. Involving more walkers opens up the possibility to study collective quantum effects, such as many particle correlations. In this context, entangled initial states and indistinguishability of the particles play a role. We consider directional correlations between two particles performing a quantum walk on a line. For non-interacting particles we find analytic asymptotic expressions and give the limits of directional correlations. We show that introducing $δ$-interaction between the particles, one can exceed the limits for non-interacting particles.

Full-revivals in 2-D Quantum Walks

Recurrence of a random walk is described by the Polya number. For quantum walks, recurrence is understood as the return of the walker to the origin, rather than the full-revival of its quantum state. Localization for two dimensional quantum walks is known to exist in the sense of non-vanishing probability distribution in the asymptotic limit. We show on the example of the 2-D Grover walk that one can exploit the effect of localization to construct stationary solutions. Moreover, we find full-revivals of a quantum state with a period of two steps. We prove that there cannot be longer cycles for a four-state quantum walk. Stationary states and revivals result from interference which has no counterpart in classical random walks.

Recurrence and Pólya number of quantum walks

We analyze the recurrence probability (Pólya number) for d-dimensional unbiased quantum walks. A sufficient condition for a quantum walk to be recurrent is derived. As a by-product we find a simple criterion for localisation of quantum walks. In contrast to classical walks, where the Pólya number is characteristic for the given dimension, the recurrence probability of a quantum walk depends in general on the topology of the walk, choice of the coin and the initial state. This allows to change the character of the quantum walk from recurrent to transient by altering the initial state.

The meeting problem in the quantum random walk

We study the motion of two non-interacting quantum particles performing a random walk on a line and analyze the probability that the two particles are detected at a particular position after a certain number of steps (meeting problem). The results are compared to the corresponding classical problem and differences are pointed out. Analytic formulas for the meeting probability and its asymptotic behavior are derived. The decay of the meeting probability for distinguishable particles is faster then in the classical case, but not quadratically faster. Entangled initial states and the bosonic or fermionic nature of the walkers are considered.
