X-Ray generations utilizing Thomson scattering fill in the gap that exists between conventional and synchrotron-based X-ray sources. They are expected to be more intense than X-ray tubes and more compact, accessible and less expensive than synchrotron. In this work, two operation modes of Thomson X-ray source are documented: quasi CW(QCW) and a pulsed one are considered for material sciences and medical applications being implemented currently at Synchrotron Radiation (SR) facilities.
We investigated the phenomena of self-stimulation of incoherent emission from an undulator installed in the linear accelerator or quasi-isochronous storage ring. We discuss possible applications of these phenomena for the beam physics also.
We attract attention that interaction of particle in downstream undulator with its own wavelet emitted in upstream undulator could be as strong as with the frictional field in undulator itself. This phenomenon could be used for enhancement of signal from pickup undulators in optical stochastic cooling methods as well as for increase of damping.
The possibility of the Enhanced Optical Cooling of muon beams in storage rings is investigated.
We are proposing to test experimentally the new idea of Enhanced Optical Cooling (EOC) in an electron storage ring. This experiment will confirm new fundamental processes in beam physics and will demonstrate new unique possibilities with this cooling technique. It will open important applications of EOC in nuclear physics, elementary particle physics and in Light Sources (LS) based on high brightness electron and ion beams.
The possibility of the enhanced optical cooling (EOC) of Lead ions in LHC is investigated. Non-exponential feature of cooling and requirements to the ring lattice, optical and laser systems are discussed. Comparison with optical stochastic cooling (OSC) is represented.
A source of medical x-rays based on a 50 Mev storage ring and a quasi-continues picosecond laser is considered. It is shown that such generator produces useful X-ray flux with higher average power and higher efficiency than that of conventional X-ray tubes. The main energy losses are related to coherent synchrotron radiation. Taking this into account the required parameters of the storage ring and injector are determined.
